This was great to use in a sudden rainstorm to keep 2 adults 2 backpacks and a large dog dry. We were able to quickly set up to sit under and eat our lunch in relative comfort. DOWNSIDE needs a larger bag to go back into. At home sure I can layout and roll tight; on the trail in the woods in a rainstorm it needs to stuff into a bag no one's got time to fold and roll in the elements. I just received this tarp and have yet to try it out since the ground is still snow-covered. But my first experience with this tarp is very positive! It is sturdy and well-made. Just received my 8x10 tarp and gave it a test hang on the porch. Looks great, well made and solid. 33 tie-outs, 4 nice stakes and some good hi-viz line. Just what the doctor ordered. Whenever the rain stops I will try some real pitches in the dirt. Seems to be a perfect low-cost tarp for all the rough duty and ground pitches. The delicate lightweight tarps are fun, but this will get more service. ... show more

First off, I think this tarp is nearly perfect in just about every category for my purposes: generous size, lightweight, high quality, durability, highly rain and wind proof, great number and location of tie outs too. It comes with high quality aluminum pegs, high vis cordage and nice carrying bags. This thing performed admirably in steady rain and light wind for hours the first time I used it - except for one spot along a seam. This dripped pretty steadily and got some gear wet. Too bad would have been a 5 star for sure. Now I have to figure out how to repair it. Still recommended with slight reservations... ... show more

I bought 14.7 x12. I've only used it once but it has worked great over my hammock so far. There are plenty of anchor points also, so no matter where you need to get tension it's there. I kinda misjudged and should've went a bit smaller but over all It works great!

We had heavy rain and crazy winds while camping this weekend. We normal go for a cheap Walmart tarp but wanted to try something new. I must say this was worth the money. My tent has never been so dry. I’m not how long this will last but the day it doesn’t I plan on getting another one.

Great rain fly because it works. Tested in several days of heavy, sustained rains and 30 mph winds; no issues. Why this is better than most: 1) More tie downs than a Times Square shop in the 80's lol. This really allows a lot of configurations like adding doors to control wind or privacy 2) Tie down loops are pretty beefy and held up 3) I always replace guy lines with neon cordage. Nothing worse than tripping over lines in the dark. These were already neon green and highly visible Potential cons: 1) Doesn't activate with bluetooth, come in 13.2 million colors, or keep aliens away; don't expect miracles. Comes with 4 stakes. Given the 33 tie downs I use more, but I have a ton sitting around, same with cordage (comes with 6 guy lines). I also add carabiners for speed and ease 2) I got the 14X 12. It's a little bigger than a large Naglene bottle and weight at about 3 pounds. I solo camp from a motorcycle with a week of stuff in a 55L pack. The larger size doesn't matter to me as I carry the fly on the outside of the pack as it's the first thing up. I cut weight in a lot of ways but I prefer a solid rain fly regardless of a little extra weight. Water rating at 5000 is way over a 1500 rain fly and seams are taped Tip: get a larger size, gives better options for doors and allows you to keep the tent open to ventilation even in heavy rains so you don't get condensation or moisture while sleeping. I also get orange- highly visible in the dark, great contrast and visible to hunters that are very aware of ORANGE Great rain fly- the price was great for what you get. Normally I've been doing the car-camping thing where I have a RedCamp awning I can hang off the back of my Jeep as a quite nice cooking/relaxing area, but having your vehicle in the actual campsite isn't always an option. I'd picked up this Gold Armor tarp to fill in that gap and had a chance to take it out for a test drive this past weekend. Unexpectedly nice daytime temperatures hitting the low 70s, but it came with a baseline 10mph wind that was constantly gusting to 30mph and randomly wandering around through about a 90 degree arc, and then to round things off added in intermittent rain. Some sort of sheltered area to cook underneath was a big part of keeping the trip enjoyable, and this tarp delivered. Having tie points all over the surface instead of just along the edges allowed for a lot of flexibility, so I was able to easily tweak with my shelter with extra stakes along the edges to help keep the wind from sneaking under, and extra guy lines both for better support against the heavier gusts and to just generally help keep the rear area opened up for gear storage and access.
