I bought this tarp with the intention of switching to hammock camping, and a tarp is necessary in the drizzly PNW. The first time I used it, however, was on a backpacking trip where I knew we would have a tent but thought I should bring it anyway, on a whim. We were caught in a downpour! Thankfully this was quick to set up (first time!) and allowed us to build a campfire (with enough clearance) and fit all three of us underneath to cook, eat, keep our packs dry, and play a game of UNO. A much less miserable trip! I took it on a solo hammock trip and it saved me once again. I had enough coverage for my hammock setup AND space to cook up my dinner, bone-dry. Woke up in the morning completely dry, the tarp covered the length of my hammock perfectly and with a nice view of the river below to wake up to. The guylines have good length, they worked wonderfully with trekking poles where trees were too spread out, and with some pre-planning, it's really quite simple to pack up in the morning. I use a ridgeline for extra support, but honestly it doesn't even need it with enough tension. The stitching looks solid, not only am I impressed, I have no concerns of ripping out the stitches when I tighten it up. Considering the price compared to other bigger brand names, I thought I would be sacrificing weight, but am pleasantly surprised at how light it is. The stakes are also super light yet quite sturdy, I wouldn't even switch them out, as a backpacker concerned with weight. A combination of durability, light-weight, and affordability is certainly hard to come by in outdoor products. I definitely recommend Wise Owl Outfitters to folks, friends and passing hikers have inquired about my tarp. The folks at Wise Owl even checked up on my purchase soon after I bought it to see if I was satisfied or had any questions. This business seems genuinely invested in providing affordable yet quality products. You can just tell this business is run by people who also love the outdoors. This does exactly what it should, the stakes are great and the tie downs are a nice touch. I've used it in a few storms and it seems very sturdy. The reason for the 4-star review is that it's really difficult to pack away, more so than any other fly I own. That bag is just too small to deal with. Might be okay car camping or in nice weather, but if the ground is muddy it's almost impossible to pack away without touching the ground. I end up rolling it up and shoving it in my pack to deal with when I get home, which is far from ideal--and forget fitting those stakes in the bag with the fly. I'm planning to try and find a bag that will fit it better and use that instead, but it's frustrating that I need to buy something to store it in. ... show more

I’ve been using this almost weekly the past few months with the Wise Owl double hammock and bug net. They work well together and I watched Wise Owl’s YouTube video on the Wisefly Rain Fly for instructions. The rain fly in the video was different as it’s a fuller coverage, square/rectangle shape whereas this one is diamond shaped. But if you’ve ever set-up a tent or understand how the square rain fly works, it’s pretty intuitive. I set it up easily myself a lot of times but it was a bit easier when someone else could help me center it over my hammock. By myself, I have to step back and make adjustments on both sides to make sure I aligned it to my hammock for best coverage. This has been great for creating a shade on sunny days, adding some privacy, blocking falling leaves, or protecting me during light showers. If it doesn’t rain much where you are or you don’t camp on stormy days, this would be perfect for you. There was a sudden storm during one camping trip and the wind was blowing some of the initial rainfall under the tarp. I had to lower the tarp closer to my hammock and tighten the ends closer to the hammock to prevent the heavy rain. A traditional square shape could have been better and it also could have provided more coverage for my things that were on the ground. The tent is opaque enough that I was able to privately change my clothes underneath it. It also helped dull down the little light I had on inside my hammock at night so my neighbors wont be disturbed. This is a LIGHTWEIGHT rain fly, so the diamond shape makes sense. It unpacks and folds up/fits right back into the bag easily. Disclaimer that I have my own tent stakes that I use, so I can’t speak on the quality of the 2 provided. I do wish that the center ropes were at least 1-2ft longer. The ones provided with the bug net are sooooo long, which is great if I only have really thick tree trunks available or there’s more distance between them. But since the rain fly’s ropes are much shorter than the bug nets’ ropes, I did struggle to secure them around thicker trees compared to the bug net. I haven’t seen another Wise Owl rain fly that offers fuller coverage, but it’s definitely something I’d be interested in. ... show more

This rain cover worked absolutely amazing! I bought it for a backpacking trip in the tetons. I brought this along with my hammock and it was a wonder. We had some extremely windy and rainy nights, but this kept me dry and out of the wind. It is so much better than carrying a tent. I would highly recommend. ... show more
