Update: Followed the advice of a recent review to contact the manufacturer (which is not Glad). Glad had me call Volume Brands where I left a message. They called me back asking me to email them my Amazon receipt and a photo of the inside of the hinge on the can to show them that I had the "old version" of the can which they admit is faulty (plastic part of the lid that holds onto the pin in the base only goes half-way around the pin; new version goes all the way around). I emailed that to 'info at volumedist dot com' and they promptly sent me a new lid with instructions to install it. Now it works perfectly. Great customer service. They were very timely and proactive! The size of this trash can is exactly what we were looking for - large enough for a family of five so we take out the trash once a day instead of twice. After a few months, as stated in other reviews, the lid pops off with every use making it impossible to open the lid without pushing it back down to snap on. There's no way to open the lid when the hinge pops apart. Another reviewer said she zip-tied the hinge which I did by drilling a few holes for the ties. The hinge on the lid definitely needs to be redesigned. - Update: The lid was redesigned and we quickly received a replacement by contacting the manufacturer. ... show more

I have been looking for a trash can to keep my 96lb dog out of. This is it. (Any trashcan with this type lid would work) this trashcan has so much room. It is much larger than your normal kitchen trashcan. It is a 20 gallon and my 13 gallon bags fit and seem to hold more. It's nothing fancy. It's black and it's plastic. But it does its job of keeping my dog out of my garbage ... show more

I needed a bigger bin and this fit the bill. The lid closes in a way that keeps odors out completely. It looks nice, it's capacity is large, it's sturdy and that's what I bought it for. And for cheaper than at the stores. Thank you!

Easy to use and replace bag. Easy enough to clean. Not super sturdy. I imagine the lid mechanism will wear out somewhat quickly. It works well though. I'm happy enough with it for now.

I am sooo glad that I purchased this trashcan!! It fits perfectly in my kitchen. I replaced my 12 gallon with this one and it was definitely a GREAT BUY!!! The size is not too big and definitely not too small. The lid works perfectly and it's extremely sturdy.     • Poorly Designed and of Poor Quality

The lid is extremely flimsy so that when you step on the foot pedal to open the lid it sags, leaving less of an opening to place some items into the trash, and that is when the lid is opening "correctly" by the foot pedal. To remove a full trash bag for its disposal, you must remove the entire top of the trash can - its lid and the frame around it. Then comes the hassle of trying to re-assemble the lid so that it opens independent of the frame around it. The metal bar that is supposed to lift the lid ALWAYS slips out of the slot, and since the frame around the lid does not attach securely to the can itself so that the lid can open independently of the frame around it, instead the foot pedal pushes the entire top of the trash can - lid and frame - up, not the front but the back, and it becomes a headache trying to get this thing to work at least half way decently. The only things I like about this trash can are its size and the bag rings that allow you to easily install a new bag. Other than that this trash can is a bust ... show more
