This is fabulous! Way better than the plastic type and much more efficient. The hose doesn't tangle and the length is great. It rolls out super easily and the built in guide insures that the hose rolls back in evenly with little effort. Genius design. The housing is a nice color metal and is very sturdy and heavy enough not to tip over if you roll the hose in and out slowly. The hose is quality as well. Love the look. I couldn't be happier.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I like the idea of a fully enclosed hose box and in fact had an older SunCast box that unfortunately succumbed to the elements. Most hose boxes are either cheaper plastic or inordinately expensive.This unit was reasonably priced and seemed the closest to the reel that I was replacing. The unit is well-made and sturdy with robust hose connections, and the winding mechanism is very smooth with minimal effort required to reel in my 100 ft hose. I did have to purchase a longer reel to hose bib connecting hose since the supplied hose is very short and really assumes your hose bib is right adjacent to the reel box. Giraffe offers connection hoses in a number of other length that are well constructed. Overall seems to be a good value.

The hose reel is a very nice design and overall quality. I particularly like the back and forth mechanism for consistantly wrapping the hose onto the reel. I was also pleased that my 75 ft 3/4 inch hose fits nicely inside the reel and is much easier to roll and unroll with this than manualy coiling it, which is quite a workout. However, the 3/4 male hose thread used to attach your hose was blocked by paint/powder coating and would not fit even a high quality solid brass hose fitting. I had to chase the threads with the correct 3/4 female hose fitting die to get my hose to finally fit. After that, no problems, no leaks. Using your customers as your final production QA is NOT acceptable business practice!

Great hose reel for sure! This is my second one I purchased because of how long it lasted and easy it is to use. Only downside is the first one's bottom rusted out. I repainted it and it lasted for three more years. Otherwise, I'd still be using it.

The design looked fantastic for the first 6–12 months, but after that it really started to show its age. It lost its nice shine and turned dull. It still functions 2–3 years later, but it looks pretty bad for something that cost around $200. At that price, it should last for years *and* still look good. For comparison, my $60 garbage can still looks great. The hose is just okay. I will say it does reduce water pressure compared to connecting a hose directly to the house. Would I buy it again? Definitely not. I need to find something that will last longer and stay looking good. Unfortunately, I bought three of them—I should have waited to see how they held up over time. Oh well.

After years of dealing with, and cursing at, the cheap plastic boxes that take three hands to rewind, I decided to splurge on a more substantial product. This is it. Solid, heavy duty metal that doesn't move around when you unwind or rewind the hose. The cranking mechanism is smooth. The connections are metal and so far leak-proof. There was really not much to assemble - just attach the hand crank and hose to the reel and you're good to go. This model doesn't have wheels, so look elsewhere if you want to roll it around the yard. This is meant to stay in place, and it does. A word about customer service. The box is held together with 20 or so machine screws. One was missing on my unit. I doubt it would have caused any problems to just leave it, but for 200 bucks I wanted no compromises, but neither did I want to box up the whole thing and return it. Rather than go through the time and expense to mail me a single screw, they gave me the size specs and offered a $10 refund for my trouble. Deal! A quick trip to the hardware store, 2 minutes with a screwdriver, and I was in business. I came out about $8.50 ahead and have a bunch of of extra screws for the tool box. Highly recommended.

It is a better-than-average looking hose reel in person. It is sturdy (heavy) with a strong metal exterior, but there are plastic components on the inside mechanisms that don't match the durability of the rest of the reel; therefore, they break. For me, the handle broke because a plastic piece it screws into broke. This was a little over a year of use, and I probably use it once every 3 weeks on average. So this relatively expensive hose reel is now useless to me.
