I've bought 6 of these over the last 5 years for two different houses. They are nice looking and sturdy, and they make rolling up hoses much easier. Leaves a neat appearance if you do it right (see below). Tips: 1) To take pressure off the reel, don't try to roll up a long hose that's all twisted and/or strung across the yard. I drag the hose over in front of the reel area in a few sections arranged like a switchback road up a mountain (no loops crossing each other, if you can picture that). 2) Drain water from the hose before reeling it in to reduce the pressure and weight. Makes it much easier. 3) Use your non-crank hand to guide the hose onto the reel to make a nice tight wind. This is a must especially if you're using a really long hose or it won't all fit. I gave 5 stars in spite of having to return one because of a leak inside the drum. They replaced it no problem. This is the best hose reel I've used. All the retractable and automatic reel ones have not lasted and been wasted money. Get this one instead and follow the tips above for a good, long-lasting, attractive reel. Heh, I sound like I work for their marketing department, but I assure you I don't. ... show more

I needed a new garden hose reel for my back yard as the old plastic ground-based reel fell apart. After plenty of research, I purchased this one. What an excellent choice. Very well made, super sturdy, and works like a charm. And, it looks great! Love the shelf on top, on which I store extra hose nozzles, the occasional water bottle while moving the lawn, work gloves, etc. In my case, I mounted it to a poured concrete wall using a carbide-tipped drill bit, hammer drill, and tapcon screws. It was really tough getting this screwed all the way in but well-worth it. The only issue, which they do address in their instructions and on the website, is that the leader hose may spin and knot/kink, when it is not supposed to. I shot a bit of silicone spray inside the mechanism which they suggest and all is now good. Pulling the hose out is a breeze. And to my pleasant surprise, reeling it back up is equally easy. I did not want the model that has the worm screw that makes the hose coil a certain way. Instead, I use my hand to guide it when reeling it in. I also selected this one since it is unlikely to rust (cast aluminum?). Love this hose reel, the way it looks, and how easy it is to pull out the hose and reel it back in! This is an awesome product and works great. Wish I would have purchased earlier. Easy to install with the right tools. Does not come with the bolts which is annoying but just makes for a home improvement store trip. Winds up great and isn’t too heavy and looks beautiful! Comes with the hose extension also which was a surprise. There were multiple purchase options and I thought I needed to purchase the extension which was not the case. Great product! ... show more

This is great and very attractive hose reel. Smooth operation in winding/unwinding the hose. However, it doesn't come with the necessary hardware to install it. I had to travel over half hour to find the proper size wood screws - and these poor Home Depot employees do not know that 80mm (5/16) is not #8. That was frustrating. Then I had to purchase screw anchors off of Amazon. Now I have a box of screw anchors for an uncommon size that I will never use, and wasted a bunch of time hunting down the hardware. I would have paid slightly more for the convenience of having the hardware in the box. ... show more

I have bought 2 of them over the years and they work out great. I like that it has no plastic on hose reel. I have 100 ft hose on it and it holds it just fine.

This is my second one of these. I've had the first one in my back yard for a year now and have had no problems (even though I didn't remove the hose for winter -- oops). No leaks. Easy to wind up the hose. Easy to mount on brick. Not sure if would really hold a 125' hose though. I have a 50' on each one, but a 100' 5/8" hose might scrape as you wind it up unless you are careful to wind it up tight. ... show more
