  • better than the plastic hardware store models...
Style: Cart
I was getting tired of fighting with the two plastic hose reels I've used for years. These hose reels are a step up in ease of operation. Good sized crank handle, and the reel is a decent size. After reading some reviews I can address a few problems other have had. First, the crank handle screws onto the reel shaft. This means when you first install the hose be sure to wind the hose in the direction that TIGHTENS the crank!!! If the handle is unscrewing when you wind in the hose you have it wound backwards!!!! Too oblivious, but some folks missed it. Second... for those who managed to mangle the hose going to the faucet, read the directions. The swivel will be stiff until the O'rings are broken in. Add a few drops of oil if needed, or support the connecting hose when reeling. Assembly was easy as pie. I was able to figure it out from the photos. Unit was well packed, and no items were missing. The manual warns about the poor paint job from the factory. To be safe, I ordered a few cans of tan Rustoleum spray from Amazon and I plan to give the frame a few additional coats of paint, with extra attention paid to lower axle support welds. It is rather sad that an owner has to do this on new units, but at least the factory advises the owners in advance to clear spray the product. I chose to overspray with paint. The cart is fairly stable and I like the side reel feature when keeps the buggy steady when reeling in or pulling out hose. The frame could be a bit sturdier. I do not consider this to be commercial grade, but it is a decent home owner level product. I'd strongly suggest keeping it garaged when possible, especially over winter months. The hose swivel allows for the hoses to be easily disconnected to ensure the metal parts are fully drained for storage during freezes. I've had a few plastic reels destroyed by freezes because removing the hoses was a very difficult task. I can't comment on the tire problems other have faced, but hopefully replacement inner tubes are cheap if needed.... I bought two of these, one for the front yard and one for the back yard. They aren't exactly lawn art, being more functional than artistic... they are fairly large units. I have about 150 feet of 5/8" hose on each cart. I'd suggest winding a new hose on a hot day to ensure the hose is pliable, my hoses were a bit stiff when purchased. ... show more

  • Great Product and product Support!
Style: Cart
Love this hose cart! Light weight but sturdy. Holds my extra long hose no problem. Came with an odd tire that was kind of squared off and flat. Aired up the tire and couple of weeks later it was flat again. I emailed the manufacturer and to my amazement and joy I got a new tire! Amazing customer service! How refreshing to not have to fight for what is right. ... show more

  • Doesn't transport the hose
Style: Cart
This item is useless. When I ordered it, I thought that surely a device with four nice wheels would allow transport of the garden hose as I was using it. Well, silly me: this cart doesn't do that at all. I guess the four nice wheels are just for bringing it out of your garage to your water source. It just hooks up stationary to your spigot, and then the hose is supposed to reel off the drum and then be rolled back onto the drum when you're finished (a process which I have not yet been able to master without kinks developing). In other words, the cart doesn't go anywhere while you are using the hose. Which means I still have to drag the hose for some distance along the ground, and I can do that without the cart! Also, dragging the hose on the ground around my house means dragging it part of the way in gravel, which will eventually damage the hose, which is why I wanted a device that would allow transport of the hose while it is being used so it would not come into contact with the ground. This gadget doesn't do that at all, even after some creative attempts on my part to get it to do so. There's always a kink, no matter what I try. I guess I should return it, but I don't know if it's worth the trouble. ... show more

  • A great hose reel for a 100' hose
Style: Cart
Struggling with a 100-foot hose in your backyard and wondering if you should get a hose holder that attaches to the wall or not? It was an easy decision for us as our house is stucco, so free-standing was the way to go. This hose reel is easy to use and rolls up easily with the crank, but here's something that everyone should know (because I didn't): if you're thinking that you can keep this hose reel attached to the spigot and still wheel it behind you from plant to tree, YOU CAN'T. You're still going to have to unfurl the hose and drag it around, then once you're done you'll need to reel it all back up with the hand crank. There is an 18" (or so) mini-hose that attaches directly to the spigot and into the frame, then your long (100') hose screws into the frame of the hose reel. This device is not something that aids you in watering your plants, unless you want to take it to some other area in the far side of the yard; then you'll have to unscrew the short hose from the spigot and then you are free to transport it to a different area where you can attach it to THAT spigot. So, the reeling part is easy and it keeps it nice and organized at the end of your yard, but somehow I thought I could magically use it as I watered large areas, but that's not what it's for! Lesson learned, but if you just need a hose reel that winds up easily, don't hesitate to get this one. Ours is still new, so I cannot comment on rusting as other reviewers have. ... show more
