I previously had a different brand of the same type of water hose with an automatic reel. It lasted one season of hard winter here in the upper Michigan area. And yes, I left it out. When the spring came even though there wasn’t any water in it? Most of the unit cracked, the hose was in good shape, but the unit itself, and it was one of those with no replaceable parts. After doing some research, this brand came up and since I had bought nozzles and spray heads from this brand, I trusted it. I’m glad I was able to get this one because what I can tell you is there are no negatives in my case. One of the best things I bought from my house. I have this mounted on a Fitz post that is concreted in the ground a little over 2 feet and is about 4 feet above ground. So I used a 6 foot pole and I have it mounted and bolted to it. It does swing back-and-forth and I’ve got it in a great location. I chose this model for one reason and that is because of the length and the size. I needed something to go from my house out to my garage, which is at the hundred feet if not a few more than that. And this goes out there and then some. It seems pretty heavy duty. And no I will not leave this out in the winter. But we have used this brand this summer and spring then we use the other brand and I will tell you it held up really well.     • Great hose reel, but with some place for improvement

I bought the PRO version with 90 ft hose and metal bracket so it's pretty rigid and sturdy - I can't comment on plastic version of that bracket as I don't have it. The installation is very simple because there is a template showing exact locations of the holes. The weight of the unit is forcing the user to use a solid support and I attached it directly to the old tree as his was the most optimal location for my watering needs, and I used a short pigtail hose with a quick connection to run the water from the fauces located on the wall of house to the tree. The instruction says that it can me mounted to a square pole, but I wouldn't do it. The hose retracts, rolls back and works like it supposed to, but there are two things that is don't like, and that I think could be improved. 1) There is significant loss of water pressure caused by the smaller diameter of the hose. My hose is 5/8", but I've read on the internet that longer hose can get smaller diameter that is 1/2" which may reduce pressure even more. 2) The unit doesn't fold flat when not used so it will not stay parallel to the surface of the wall it's attached to. This is a big disadvantage that could be easily fixed by designing a deeper mounting bracket. Overally, I'm glad that I bought it, but this product could be even better if a few improvements were made. ... show more

I purchased this automatic hose reel for my lanai. Not only does it look great, it works perfectly. I liked it so much, I got two more for around the house. They work perfectly as well. I ordered this product 11 months ago. It worked perfectly until it didn't. It stopped retracting the hose. I contacted Giraffe through Amazon and they asked for a video showing that it did not retract. I sent that to them and a few days later I have a brand new one sitting on my front porch.

    • The hose is terrible

I needed a new reel hose for my front and backyard. I even thought of putting one of these on the side of my house as well. I decided to purchase 2 of these after doing tons of research. They were both very easy to install. Within 2 months of very moderate use, a pin size hole developed in the hose and it was shooting out a very thin stream of water which was quite annoying. I purchased a roll of flex tape and wrapped it up. Within days, 5 more pin sized holes developed and now when I use this thing, it’s like a soaker hose except I’m the one getting soaked. The hose in the backyard is doing the same thing. Now I have drilled holes in my brick walls to install both these and now the hoses are completely ruined. I would even consider replacing the hoses but I don’t know how to do that. I love the concept of an automatic hose reel so I would even consider buying a different brand, but I will have to obviously drill a different set of holes in my brick to install their base and I’m not thrilled about that. I am extremely disappointed in this product times two. If anyone knows a quality automatic hose reel I can purchase, I would love a good recommendation. The Giraffe brand just didn’t work out for me. ... show more

This retractable hose is a game changer for me. No more fighting with the heavy hose! The nozzle isnt the greatest, its all plastic but that is something easily changed. I like that this model has a metal bracket and not all plastic like other models. It retracts nicely but best if you guide it as it retracts. ... show more
