  • A Good Filter Assembly
Awesome replacement filter assembly. GOOD Price $$. A great feature of this filter is that you can see in great detail the composition of the filter as it gets filled up during usage. Strong internal bypass valve is the key to longtern functionality of the assembly. This is my second purchase of this filter assembly. I would give it a 5 star rating if only the filter had a stronger mounting design. (Sorry GE) . I would spend the x-tra $$ if price reflects the stronger mount design if applicable. PS: I almost forgot. In my opinion, I would not press the red PSI relief button when changing filters. I just crack open the sink faucet prior to going down cellar and I would pull the handle on the filter assembly to "bypass " . The pressure would be minimized and you could unscrew the filter housing and replace the filter etc. That's why this is my 2nd filter. I was out of town and my father in law came over and pressed the red pressure relief button to change the clogged filter. The button would not stop leaking from being pressed. You get the rest of the story...... ... show more

  • Seems very good.
Style: GXWH50M
Bought to replace an older filter. Nicely engineered product. Came with sharkbite connections. Hooked up with no leaks the first time. Really like the clear view to see the filter and it actually working. The WiFi feature is nice as it shows your flow, gallons and you can set alerts for excessive flows if you wish. All hooked up easy. Haven’t replaced a filter yet but installing one was easy and seems simple to replace. ... show more

  • Just what I needed.
Style: GXWH70M
I have a well at my house for water and have always had hard water stains . I was told by plumber to install water filter and It would help. I found this whole house water filter on sale and purchased it . A friend of mine installed it. I was not an overly easy project as it took him some time but once up it worked perfectly. I have noticed a great improvement in the water. No more orange stains! Only drawback is you have to replace the filter every 3 month and they are not cheap, but I will do it because the filter is doing the job. Great buy. ... show more

  • It is much larger than the previous whole-house filters I've owned.
Style: GXWH50M
When the box arrived, I was surprised at the size and weight. Yes the filter is a big one. To give you an idea of the size, the cartridge is about 3 3/4" in diameter and 13" tall. It weighs 1 lb 10 oz when dry. I haven't installed it yet, but it is from GE so I know it will work find. The directions could be more clear for how you rotate the filter for vertical pipes and how you move the control for filter changing. To change the orientation you simply grab the input/output pipe and apply some muscle to rotate it to the new position. Similar deal to unlock it for filter changing. You just have to be confident and keep increasing the pressure until it moves. Once it finally moves, it's easy to keep moving it to the Off position. I expect it will get easier over time. ... show more

  • Every Home and Condo Should Have This Installed (Don't worry about the Negative reviews)
The media could not be loaded. Installing this General Electric GXWH04F Standard Flow Whole House Filtration System can be done without special plumbing tools! So yes, everyone can install this whole house water filtration system and enjoy clean water from every sink, shower, tub, and washing machine. MAIN BENEFITS: Having this installed will first allow you to drink your tap water, second it will reduce dirt, silt and rust which can clog or break your expensive faucets. I recently rebuilt my bathroom and bought all new shower fixtures and faucets. I installed this product to protect my shower heads and thermostatic valve. I've heard that the sand and rust that flow through your pipes can eventually wear down the seals on all types of plumbing fixtures and cause them to leak or break. Save yourself a lot of money in repairs in the future by installing this filter. CHANGING FILTERS GE made it very easy to swap out the filter once it looks dirty. 1.I simply shutoff the valve to my water main, 2. Then I shutoff the additional SharkBite valve the GE instructions told me to install right after the water filtration system. This prevents water from coming back down from upstairs while I swap filters. 3. I turn the water filter valve to the off position. 4. Next I simply use the plastic wrench that came with it to unscrew the filter from the base and place the filter in the plastic canister into a bucket. This minimizes any spills. 5. I remove the old filter and pop in the new filter and simply screw it back into the housing. 6. I turn on the water filter valve, then slowly turn on the water main valve, then the valve right after the filter. That's IT! Honestly, you can do this entire process in less than 5 minutes. Buy the filter and Sharkbite fittings to make the job super easy without any plumbing tools. They cost a little more, but you won't have to buy tools you'll never use again. TOOLESS INSTALLATION PARTS: You'll need 2 of these SharkBite U134LFA 3/4-Inch by 3/4-Inch MNPT SharkBite Lead Free Straight Connector for 3/4" plumbing or buy the 1/2" if that's what you're working with. The threaded parts screw into the filter and the other side is a Sharkbite connector that you can slide a copper or PEX pipe into. Also get a SharkBite 22185-0000LF Ball Valve SB 3/4"LL if you want to prevent the water in your house from coming back down, while your swapping filters. LEAKS: If your filter leaks, you probably didn't tighten the canister down properly. It happened to me once, so I simply tightened it a little more and whala! No more leaking. PLASTIC PARTS: I worked in the construction industry from 2004 to 2010 managing large home addition projects so I can assure you that PLASTIC is used a lot in plumbing these days. The people who talk badly about plastic either are too old school, or they simply have no idea that today's plumbing is done with PEX plastic pipes for water supply lines. You can look me up on YouTube, I make easy to follow how-to videos for all types of projects, like this one. I’ve included only a clip from an upcoming video on the Proven Helper channel. Good Luck! ... show more
