After hyping this thing up for years I finally decided I needed it. Well this thing is absolutely overrated and overpriced. Requires way too much maintenance with the ice just to keep it from clumping and even then it still clumps. I’ve tried it all. While the ice is great, it’s just a hassle and not worth it. I would value this at $250 max with no special. I bought this on Amazon prime day for $399, they dropped it to $350 a week later and did not refund difference. I don’t recommend this product. It also does not produce the amount of ice that it claims.

We’ve had the Opal ice maker for a while now and it has been great. The nugget ice is exactly what we wanted—soft, chewable, and perfect for drinks. It makes ice quickly and keeps up really well for everyday use and when we have people over. One feature I really appreciate is that the machine tells you when it’s time to clean it. That takes the guesswork out of maintenance and helps keep everything running smoothly. The cleaning process is simple and straightforward. Overall it’s been reliable, easy to use, and produces excellent ice. If you like nugget ice, this machine is definitely worth it.

I really love GE Opal nugget ice maker. The ice is small and crunchy. I don’t really pay attention to the noise. I have an autistic child so my noise tolerance is amazingly not noticeable. Iykyk. This is my second unit. The first one I did not know to use Distilled water so I am doing a lot of descaling and cleaning. This new unit though seems like I am sanitizing and descaling every week, which seems like a lot, but I don’t mind if it will keep the unit up and working for a long time. We are really pushing this machine though with a household of six people and it’s keeping up with the ice demand.

I love this ice maker. This is the newer model and it does have some better features but the fan is SOOOO loud after getting out ice. It makes ice fast so the fan isn’t on a super long time but it is louder than my fridge when it is on. The old version is not like that at all.

Love this icemaker! Quite a process to get it cleaned and ready to use but I understand why. Just realize that you will not remove it from the box and immediately begin making ice. Speaking of removing from the box...it is very well packed! Lucky you if you are young and strong or have a person in your home who is strong. I am an 80 year old woman slightly over 5 feet so it took a while to unpack! All of the effort involved in getting this machine ready to start producing has been worth it. Adhere to manufacture's suggestion to use only distilled water. A note regarding the noise some people have complained about...not my experience! Very quiet.

GE and specifically this icemaker are quite possibly the worst combinations you can imagine. You have the worst manufacturer of appliances with the worst track record of reliability and warranty work followed by a unit that literally shouldn’t be on shelves. It’s that bad. So let’s cut to it as to why this gets the abysmal score it deserves. This is my second unit as the first one, out of the box, literally did not make ice. Plugged in, tanks full of water and left for 8 hours, barely 1 scoop of ice. RMA unit comes in and magically creates ice like it should except this has the most god awful squealing when on. I about took it out back to punch a .50 round thru it but I waited it out and it got quieter. Until it became so quiet it just stops working. This “2.0” isn’t an upgrade. It’s the same POS as from 5+ years ago. The “smart app” is unbelievably useless. There’s nothing smart about it. You can change light levels, tell it to make ice and set a schedule. That’s it. What can’t you do? Turn on sanitizing and cleaning cycles, weight sensors of the bucket to cycle when it triggers to come on and really literally any feature you can think or want, doesn’t do. Worthless. Speaking of cleaning the unit, that’s a massive pain. Why? Because you never know when the buttons on the front panel stop working. And they do this frequently. You can easily press and hold clean for 5 hours straight and does nothing. It happens all the time. Another neat feature is just after a full clean using their own solution, it’ll break something. It’s happened every time. First time, it stopped making ice for days using the external water tank. It finally decided to work. Second time? “Add water” light is on permanently while both tanks are full. Another neat feature that’s nice is the longer you have it the less it works. It’s over priced compared to the market. The filters clog everytime you clean cycle the unit so you better get used to monthly replacements. You have to buy an extra $100 tank otherwise it’s honestly not worth it because it’ll run out of water too fast. Compared to every feature and ability for the money against every other brand? No way I’d ever allow another POS GE product in my home. Stick to higher quality brands like LG.

We had the version 1.0 until our house completely burned down and we lost everything. Loved it. We were finally able to buy this as a replacement. We decided on the white one because it would go with our kitchen motif. When I ordered it the delivery date was a 4 day delivery. But later on the order date, I received a notice that UPS had it in its possession and the delivery date was the next day. I thought, sure, I've had notices like that before that later changed into several days shipping. But the next day, I checked UPS tracking and sure enough it was enroute to my local UPS and would be delivered by 5 pm that day. Sure enough, 5:15 pm and it was on my front door. Super impressed with the seller. As to a review, what can I say that hasn't been said before. I did due my due diligence by Googling "what's the best nugget ice machine today" and the GE Profile machine came out on top. Glad we got it.
