  • Great Quality, Great Product!
Color: Black Stainless Steel
I wish the water tank was bigger. But it's still amazing. We use so much ice throughout the day. The pebble ice is great. Great price, great quality, and easy to use. the self cleaning is great. If you have hard water, like I do, I would recommend draining and cleaning every 2 months. Truly a great product!!! ... show more

  • Great Ice - Horrible Machine
Color: Black Stainless Steel
This is my second GE Opal icemaker. Despite frequent cleaning and only using water from a Reverse Osmosis system, after a few years it started making ice with chunks of what appeared to be algae or fungus. No amount of cleaning an descaling worked, so I donated it to a local charity with the instruction manual in hopes someone else would go the effort to clean it. Then I purchased an updated unit. This new version requires constant maintenance. The manual says "every 4 weeks" and Sanitizing "4 per week". Each descaling or sanitizing cycle takes about 30 minutes and requires well over a gallon of clean water sent down the drain for rinsing, if you follow the instructions. That's 2.5 hours of maintenance and 5 gallons of wasted water a month, even if you only use RO filtered water. To keep you on schedule, the "Cleaning" warning starts blinking, and there is no language in the manual to reset it other than running a full "De-scaling". The problem is that it is still blinking after you waste that time and water. Several internet sources recommend holding down the "Power" button for 10 seconds, but that doesn't work, either. You are supposed to be able to reset the "Cleaning" light using the GE App, which requires installing a new App, several pages of Terms of Service, giving it access to your local WiFi network, starting an account with GE with several more pages of Terms Of Service, and creating a new password with minimum uppercase, minimum lower case, minimum numbers, and at least one "Special Character". There are no instructions as to what a "Special Character" is, but after several attempts, I deduced a "dash" won't work but an "Asterisk" will. After all that, and several minutes of it doing something on my network, it offered me several pages of videos, but no options to control the unit other than turning the light on and off or stopping the machine from making ice. I uninstalled the app, but I worry about all the privacy issues I had to give up to find out it didn't do anything. I don't remember having any trouble with lights and buttons on the old unit, and there was a "Clean" switch on the back to handle everything. The new unit has no such switch as it is controlled by various "hold for XX second" button combination that are very difficult to get to work, as they are hidden behind an opaque sheet of plastic. I'll bet that change from a switch to hidden buttons saved them at least $2, but makes the unit unusable. If my wife can't learn to ignore the blinking "Cleaning" light, which would be a first, we're going to have to throw this one away and see who else sells a unit that just makes ice. ... show more

  • Constantly runs...
Color: Stainless Steel
I did a lot of research on machines for the house. I looked at multiple units, some that required a drain. I had a smaller Frigidaire but it required constantly filling the water during the day and although it claimed to make 26 lbs during the day, it was a slow and tedious process in getting to the 26 lbs. The ice also melted extremely fast even in a Yeti cup. I am extremely happy with this GE Profile and even though the ice is smaller (and in larger amounts), it lasts longer compared to the larger cubes from the Frigidaire in my Yeti. Some things to note, it does have some noise to it. But not enough to bother me and it was relatively the same as the Frigidaire unit. I did read the comments and someone mentioned scheduling it to turn on and off in the middle of the night to keep continuous ice making. I guess if it stops, it melts quit a bit. Stopping and restarting helps. I love the fact I can leave this on continuously. I do like the App feature, but rarely use it honestly but it’s a nice to have for sure. And finally, I don’t have arguments with the family of 5 on why we don’t always have ice. The side XL unit is an absolute MUST. Although we got the side unit, we STILL go through a lot of jugs of water. In the heat of Texas, of course we should be using it quite a bit. And USE DISTILLED WATER. Do your research on WHY to use Distilled. Makes a difference. Flavor, of course will be different than drinking water but we use filtered water from our refrigerator along with our Distilled Ice and scaling will be reduced significantly if at all. The beauty of this unit is that I don't have to clean as much using distilled water, I don't have to drain often, and I can leave it on constantly. Couldn’t be happier at the moment with this purchase ... show more

  • Crunchable Perfection at Home – A Must for Nugget Ice Lovers! Crunchable Perfection at Home – A Must for Nugget Ice Lovers!
Color: Stainless Steel
If you’re a fan of the soft, crunchy nugget ice found at old-school soda fountains or your favorite drive-thru, the GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker delivers that same experience—right in your own kitchen. I’ve been using this machine for some time now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best home ice makers on the market, if you’re willing to commit to some routine care. ⸻ Pros: • Perfect Nugget Ice: This machine produces the iconic soft, chewable ice that’s incredibly satisfying. Whether you’re making cocktails, iced coffee, or just love munching ice (despite what your dentist says!), the quality is exceptional. • Quiet Operation (Relatively): Compared to commercial or restaurant-grade ice makers, this unit is impressively quiet. There’s a low hum while it runs and a gentle sound when ice drops into the bin. • Thoughtful Design: Comes with a scoop, a front drip tray for catching condensation, and a sleek, modern look that fits well in most kitchens. • Self-Recycling Water System: Melted ice drains back into the reservoir and is reused—efficient and convenient. • Decent Water Capacity: The gravity-fed reservoir holds up to one gallon of water. I strongly recommend using distilled water to reduce mineral buildup and prolong the machine’s life. • Party Prep Friendly: Under normal usage, a full ice bin will provide enough ice for about 6–8 twelve-ounce beverages. When hosting guests for drinks and light bites, I like to fill gallon-size freezer bags about 3/4 full of ice in advance and store them in the freezer. This ensures I have plenty of nugget ice on hand for the entire gathering and can keep the ice bin replenished for everyone to enjoy their favorite cold beverage. ⸻ Cons (But Manageable): • Requires Routine Maintenance: Like all freestanding ice machines, it needs regular cleaning and descaling. This includes the water tank, the internal reservoir beneath the ice bin, and periodic sanitizing. You’ll want to plan a full clean every 45 to 75 days, depending on usage. • Descaling Frequency Varies: If you’re using tap water, the hardness of your local water supply will affect how often you’ll need to descale. Harder water will lead to faster buildup, so regular monitoring is key. Using distilled water significantly reduces this concern. • Not a Freezer: The ice is stored in an insulated bin, not a freezer compartment. It will slowly melt if unused, but thankfully, the machine refreezes it using the recycled water. • Minor Condensation Drips: When removing the ice bin, you may notice a bit of condensation on the bottom. The included drip tray handles this well, but it’s worth keeping an eye on. ⸻ Final Thoughts: This ice maker is a game-changer for nugget ice enthusiasts. Yes, there’s a little maintenance involved—but in return, you get restaurant-quality ice at home. As my grandmother used to say, “Anything worth having is a result of hard work.” In this case, the “work” is light and completely manageable. If you’re prepared for basic upkeep and use distilled water when possible, this is a fantastic investment for your kitchen or home bar. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates the joy of perfectly crunchy ice. ... show more

  • DIED! (Updated review below) BEWARE
Color: Stainless Steel
I waited and waited and read many reviews and finally bought this during prime deal days and I’m so glad I did! Some say it’s runs loud, but it doesn’t bother me. It’s in the kitchen, not my bedroom. I bought the XL tank and love everything about it. I was worried the ice would melt quick in my glass, but it doesn’t. Just buy it! Update 4 months later- I have a love hate relationship with this machine. I get “add water” multiple times a week (sometimes multiple times a day) even when the tank is full. I read online the water line can get air bubbles, so I have to lift the tank, open the drawer then shut it and hold tank for 30 seconds or so to get it going. Gets SO annoying. Cleaning is a pain. I’ve leaked so much water everywhere doing it. Finally this most recent time I think I got the hang of it. Lately machine has just shut off a few times. Ugh. Could be a melted ice mess if I hadn’t noticed. On the positive side, I still don’t think it runs “loud”. It’s in the kitchen so it doesn’t bother me at all. Update 6 months later- I completely removed the side tank. So much better and also easier to clean. We have a family of 4 and I only have to add water a few times a week. Much easier and also smaller and fits better in the corner of the kitchen with out the side tank. 18 month update- still going strong and still not using the side tank. I did have a squeaking issue but I googled it and found it needed to be completed defrosted. So I did that and let it sit over night and squeak went away! The scoop broke so I bought a nice metal one. But still overall glad I bought, we use it all day everyday! 19 month review- IT DIED!! Motor started getting VERY loud, my husband opened the back and said he could tell motor was toast. With in a few days it made a VERY loud noise and died. This machine WILL NOT LAST YOU! It makes me so sad because it was very expensive and I LOVED it while it worked. So I’m buying a cheapy $100 one because honestly none seem to last and I’ll just buy a new cheapy one every hear. Warranty is expired so this will sadly be going to a landfill ... show more

  • Noisy maker of perfect ice pellets!
Color: Stainless Steel
This thing is very noisy when it's making ice! Any time you remove any ice from the bin, it drops below the sensor level and turns it on again. Other times, as the ice melts away from the sensor it turns on to refill it. This can be random and unexpectedly noisy if you have it near a home office like I do. Otherwise, it makes great ice--I use distilled water and have not had any issues with taste degrading as it continuously melts and makes new ice (the bin is not refrigerated, so YES, it melts). Utilizing a few scoops of ice per day, I've only gone through about 1-1/2 gallons of distilled water and have had it for 2 weeks. When I go out of town I'm going to shut it off and let it remake the ice when I return so it doesn't continue to randomly turn on and make ice for no reason. ... show more

  • The instructions need step-by-step, along with pictures for each and every step more detailed
Color: Moonstone Blue
This icemaker is the queen of all queens. It’s huge, the instructions could be written with a little bit more, about the actual set up of the machine itself,, also instead of starting off on how to clean the machine, how to operate and what steps to take one at a time, writing comprehension, just saying we’re not my best subjects, and also taken into consideration being women, who went from been married iand anything with instructions my other half done everything for as long as I left home at 16 years old, going on 50!! These instructions, severely need attention,, from going t from having a man in your life, who did it all for you, two being able, to read and see each steps that being said Step1. with a detail1 as well as a clear picture showing on each step have step-by-step , but I guess they wanted you to look at the pictures and just know what you’re doing. I finally after many hours doubting myself and doughting everything around me as well as the floor and myself cause I did not hook up the hose in the back I guess the second guess myself on which one of those tubes goes where I make the wrong mistake , the directions didn’t say which hose came off and attached to the pump on the side of the icemaker where my house of water pump I undothe accidentally connect the wrong hose to the pump, causing all the water in the holding tank, ran out like crazy. Call it a pretty lucky guess after two wasted full gallons of distilled water everywhere!!The first icemakerI bought lasted about a year and a half totwo years. my next purchase was an another one an another one on Amazon, purchased it December 30 and went out within a two week timeframe. So I’m going to see my daughter in Missouri and she’s been telling me to get the GE profile. Opal, I told her she was out of her bougie mind…. after the second one broke, I was mad as hell. She paid $699 for her, but when I got on there and looked way more than what I wanted to spend, I decided to just do the purchase and get it over with, came in the mail today, our yesterday,, I was blown away.It was the best purchase I made. I love the little nugget ice, this icemaker is my prize possession, I’m going to religiously like clockwork, my opal blue. The ice queen is going to be maintenance as often as asked, i’m on a fixed income, so I am going out on Liam, and I hope to goodness I hope she treats me, stress, free, and finances free from any and all problems she Keeps the general Electric, maintenance free, and always holds up to the General Electric name and craftsmanship.. i’ll come back in about six months and give an update!! you can definitely tell by looking at this machine that you are getting nothing but the best it’s heavy duty made to last, and last not least meant to be in my kitchen.!.!.! Sincerely, Dana Burney. Please read what I wrote and take in consideration about the instructions. I’m proud of myself, I figured it out. Gotta put together waste a couple gallons of water, but that’s OK., That icemaker is extremely heavy for one person to lift ... show more
