  • Quiet, fast, and the perfect size!
The media could not be loaded. Our fridge has had trouble making ice for several years now, and it's such a pain to run to the store when we need ice, so this awesome ice maker is a great solution! It doesn't take up much counter space when I'm using it, and it's small enough to store in the pantry when not in use. It's fairly quiet when it's running...it sounds like a Keurig heating up, but it's a constant sound while the ice maker is on. The noise of the ice dropping is definitely noticeable, but it's short, and I didn't find it to be very loud. I recorded a video of the second batch of ice (set to Small), so you can see how it works. The metal fingers in the back are submerged in a bucket of water that's filled from the reservoir under the ice basket. The metal fingers are cooled, and ice builds up on them. After a few minutes, the bucket of water drops and drains back into the reservoir, the metal fingers are heated, and the ice releases. Then, the water bucket acts as a shovel to push the ice into the basket. It's pretty neat to watch! It definitely takes several batches for the ice to get nice and thick, but starting with very cold water should help (I had used cool tap water). I liked the Large ice better than the Small. They take several minutes longer to make, but they're thicker and don't melt as fast in the basket. I also really love the shape of these ice cubes. They're perfect for smaller water bottle openings, and they're easier to chew on since their core is hollow. It is important to note that this ice maker is not for ice storage. It does not keep the ice frozen, but the ice will keep for a decent amount of time after the maker has been running for at least an hour or two. The first couple of batches melted before the ice got big enough and the basket got cold enough to keep them solid. This wasn't a problem for me, because I transferred every few batches to our freezer's ice bucket. It took all day to fill the bucket, but it's large enough to hold a big bag of ice from the store, so that's pretty impressive! I did have to refill the water several times throughout the day, but not nearly as many times as I thought I'd need to. If you do leave the ice in the ice maker, the bottom ones will eventually melt and drip back into the reservoir, so there won't be any mess. The ice maker will simply make more ice to replace the ones that melted. This is a great ice maker for filling up your freezer bucket every few weeks, but it would also be perfect for parties where you need a constant supply of ice. It's fast and efficient, and I'm very happy with it! ... show more

  • No more spilled trays or waiting hours for ice cubes!
First of all, my freezer is jam-packed. There is no room for even one conventional ice cube tray, and even if I could squeeze one in, keeping it level without water dripping and spilling all over is next to impossible. All for 10 or 12 measly ice cubes that I'd have to wait hours for them to freeze. Enter this miraculous ice machine! Wish I'd gotten one years ago. One fill of water results in a full gallon freezer bag full of ice. I just fill it up, let it run, occasionally check to see if the basket is full, toss the cubes into a bag and put it in the freezer door. After a few hours at most, the water is used up and I have a big bag of cubes. You can just refill with more water if you need more ice, or if you're having a party and need a continuous supply of ice. The ice is a tad soft, which is to be expected, but it's perfectly serviceable for drinks right out of the machine. After being in a bag in the freezer for a little while, the cubes get as rock solid as ice tray ice. They tend to stick together a little but just a little bang of the bag against the counter and the individual cubes separate perfectly. After I've got all the ice I need, it's a breeze to clean up. The machine is light enough for me to carry it to the sink to pull the bottom plug and drain out any remaining water. The hardest part of the whole operation is wrestling the plastic plug out of the drainage hole! I then just wipe it down with a paper towel and leave the door open for it to completely air dry. Caveat: Don't forget to put the plug back in place before you use the machine again! It's not the smallest appliance but it's earned a permanent spot on my kitchen counter. Beautiful brushed stainless steel finish that looks elegant and fits in with almost any decor. I use it about once or twice a week, but then, it's just me in the house. If you've got family, especially in the summertime, I can see using it daily to keep everyone's drinks nice and chilled. Even if you've forgotten to stock up, all it takes is a few minutes to produce enough cubes for a tall glass of water or soda. It's also great for rapidly cooling hard boiled eggs or blanched vegetables. Makes a convenient source of ice for sprains, strains, or just wrapping a handful in a kitchen towel to cool off by placing it on the back of the neck. It's very, very quiet, too. The only noise it makes is the boink! of the cubes dropping off the metal rods and being shoveled into the basket. If the basket gets full, the machine will stop until you empty it. If you forget and the ice all melts back into the reservoir, the machine will automatically start up again and remake the cubes! It also stops if the water level gets too low, and a light comes on letting you know. No danger of burning out the motor. You can choose to make smaller or larger cubes, too. The larger ones aren't that large, so I just leave it on large, which is the default. Hint: Using distilled water gives you crystal clear ice cubes! I love this machine and it seems very well built. I highly recommend it. ... show more
