I own the GE Profile Opal 2.0 w/ side tank. It makes fabulous ice. However, it is a pain to operate (whomever designed the controls needs to go back to school), clean, and every odd cycle, the motor will seize and make a horrible screeching noise. In short, the quality of the Opal 2.0 is poor. When it works just right, the ice it produces is amazing. But, I'm positive it will fail long before it should and at ~$600, that's a lot to pay for poor quality. I purchased the Frigidaire EFIC237 Countertop Crunchy Chewable Nugget Ice Maker as a gift for a vacation home where I frequently stay. Right out of the box, it was pure simplicity. Intuitive controls, pretty quiet (it is an ice maker, so it will make noise), and quickly (faster than Opal 2.0) makes a lot of good ice. The ice is not quite as soft as the Opal 2.0. However, for $329, it's a quality machine that makes good crunchy ice. I'd recommend this machine. Wish the GE Opal 2.0 would redesign their machine to operate like the Frigidaire.

I bought this with high expectations. Boy was I ever disappointed, both in the product and the customer service. The machine worked beautifully at first but then one day I heard this terrible noise. It sound like the machine was demon-possessed. It would not stop. I unplugged it, waited a few minutes, and powered it up. It seemed to work fine...for a week. Then it started regularly making the grinding noise that could be heard all over our house. By this time it was too late to send back to Amazon so I called customer service. When someone finally got on the phone, they acted as if they didn't believe me. I sent them videos of the machine in action. Finally, a few days, phone calls, and emails later, they told me they would give me a refund but first...they said I must ship the machine, at my cost, back to them! I absolutely refused to do that. I asked to speak with someone with more authority. After several days they finally told me a refund was forthcoming but that I needed to cut the power cord off at the machine, scratch the serial number and another number off with a blade and send pictures of having done so. That frustrated me too, but I did that. I got a check but I assure you, I will NEVER buy this brand again. I success no one does. After researching online, I found that this is a common problem for other buyers. One lady even posted a video of her "possessed" machine to Instagram.

What a gem I didn’t know these existed till YouTube I saw it had to get this machines my kids lovveee it so do I I know summer it will be lit lol right now we use 1 refill every other day and it fills within 7to nine minutes super fast ice is great just like sonic etc. Love It Grateful we eat on this ice all day my daughter literally sit by the Frigidaire and eat ice she like it so much the kids fill their water bottles for school and it’s great worth every penny save me sonic stops. Luxury high quality sound is bearable light Ice drops and cuts on off when not full can stop the sound by not adding water when ice is full or turning ice off if u don’t want to hear the machine at night. I have it in my living room with my Avalon water machine 2 great additions super excited to have these 2. Yess Ice is Great Better Than Sonic I actually can chew this ice. Gem

This item worked great for 4 1/2 months then totally quit working. Customer service was terrible. Claims had to be resolved in one week or you had to start all over and begin the process all over again. I provided exactly the information required and customer service kept asking for more and more information and photos and even a video of a broken ice maker. A video, really, what purpose could that possibly serve? It looks obvious to me that customers are setup to fail. I finally jumped through all of their hoops and packaged the thing up to send back at MY COST, not theirs. They wouldn't even provide a label that I could print with the proper information. I fount out shipping costs were going to be anywhere from $150 - $600. It's a big and heavy item to ship. No Thank You. I'll make my own ice. I'm not going to spend $150+ to ship this back and get a most likely refurbished one that probably would not last longer. I also found out that three other people that I know personally bought the same thing and those have all went bad as well. Do not buy this product unless you enjoy throwing away money. Shame on Frigidaire for being so terrible. I will certainly never buy any Frigidaire product again and will advise everyone I know to do the same. Update: After refusing to send the unit back due to high shipping costs, they had me render it unusable and take photos. (This option was not offered until after I refused to send it back) They told me they would either send a replacement or issue a refund. I wanted a refund but they sent a replacement instead. The replacement only lasted six weeks. I have a folder with near 60 emails to their customer "service" department. After jumping through all of the hoops I met their requirements. I insisted on a refund and told them I absolutely did not want another one. I will update again when I see how they respond.

If you need an ice maker or just want one, this is a great one! The nugget ice is exactly like the east to chew ice from fast food joints such as Sonic and Chick-fil-A. The ice maker is easy to use. Fill detachable tank with water, reattach by simply putting it back in place, and clicking the ice button. It is a bit tall so it will stick out on a kitchen countertop. I put mine in the living room that serves as a dry bar so now we have ice there too! It can be slightly noisy as it makes ice but it’s not bad. Makes ice relatively quickly. First batch in about 15 minutes. My wife loves it. She crunches on ice all the time and this kind is much easier on her teeth.

We got this machine for our 23rd wedding anniversary as a gift for each other. It worked amazingly at first. Just as advertised with the "good" ice. We loved it and used it every day. At about 6 months, it started to make a squealing noise and it was slow to make ice. I did a full shut off, cleaned it really well and plugged it back in. I did all the trouble shooting steps. The noise was still there and now it would not make any ice. I contacted Assurant and was told they only take over after the first year. I went to look at Frigidare only to discover it isn't made by them. It is made by Curtis. I contacted Curtis and jumped through all kinds of hoops to make a claim. They told me I had to ship it to them. AT MY COST. From FL to CA for something that weighs 44 lbs. If I did not have access to my work's shipping rates, it would have been over $100 to ship to them. Ridiculous. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM! EDIT: They shipped me a new one back in April 2023 after I did the crazy warranty claim process. Guess what? Same thing. Brand new unit died again. Same story except this time, I was able to make a claim with Assurant. Got my entire purchase price refunded, so yay for that. I will NEVER buy another appliance from Curtis.

I've had this ice maker for a little over a year. It makes great ice quickly. Now for the negatives. It's really tall so it doesn't fit under the upper cabinets. I had to purchase a rolling cart for it to sit on in my laundry room which wasn't optimal, but it got the job done. Being in the laundry room was actually a blessing since it is so loud. Had I kept this in the kitchen it would have driven me mad. Another issue is filling the water tank. It's awkward to fill. I wish it had a side tank like single serve coffee makers. Yesterday, I started hearing very loud bangs coming from the laundry room which I assumed was coming from our washer or dryer as they were both in use. This morning I dumped the ice into our freezer bucket and it was covered with black specks. When I inspected the ice machine it had a huge bump and crack under the water tank. The bump is so large the water tank doesn't sit properly. It was a lot of money for just one year and 3 months of use.

This unit puts out a decent amount of ice. We’ve hosted a dozen people for dinner and the unit kept up. However, it’s not great for mass ice production (which it’s not designed for anyway). The unit did break today. The ice was not ejecting from the ice maker, and a small arm that pushes the ice pellets out broke off. Not sure what is going on, but I did reach out to customer service and filed a warranty claim. We’ll see how far that goes. I’m not displeased with the regular operation of the ice maker except for the fact that it’s a bit loud when it’s running. Also, the cleaning instructions are not helpful and you pretty much have to figure it out yourself.
