I own the GE Profile Opal 2.0 w/ side tank. It makes fabulous ice. However, it is a pain to operate (whomever designed the controls needs to go back to school), clean, and every odd cycle, the motor will seize and make a horrible screeching noise. In short, the quality of the Opal 2.0 is poor. When it works just right, the ice it produces is amazing. But, I'm positive it will fail long before it should and at ~$600, that's a lot to pay for poor quality. I purchased the Frigidaire EFIC237 Countertop Crunchy Chewable Nugget Ice Maker as a gift for a vacation home where I frequently stay. Right out of the box, it was pure simplicity. Intuitive controls, pretty quiet (it is an ice maker, so it will make noise), and quickly (faster than Opal 2.0) makes a lot of good ice. The ice is not quite as soft as the Opal 2.0. However, for $329, it's a quality machine that makes good crunchy ice. I'd recommend this machine. Wish the GE Opal 2.0 would redesign their machine to operate like the Frigidaire.

Update 10/3/23: Finally got approval to send back to Curtis International (which I had to pay $80 to send) for them to look at and decide if they were going to fix it, replace it, or refund. They have had it since Aug 28th. Two emails later they respond Sept 12th stating that they received it and will escalate my case. A replacement will take 2 to 3 weeks or a refund will take 4 to 6 weeks. After two more emails to them to get an update, Sept 25th response was that they are still working on my case. I then replied that I would like a full refund instead of a replacement. On Sept 26th they just send back there processing time frame. Again I would like to warn anyone that is looking to buy this ice machine or anything else from this seller to think twice before making the purchase. Work great and fast for a while so I loved this ice maker for up until a two months ago when it stopped dropping ice down due to a part that broke off inside. I immediately got a hold of Curtis International to get it replaced (which has been a complete nightmare) and uploaded the pictures of the model and serial number and a picture of the broken off part. Going on two months of me calling and emailing them and still have not heard back from them. When I call, they always tell me that they will have someone call me back because the manager or the person handling my request is out or in a meeting and of course no one ever gets back with me. For a while every Monday I would get and email telling me they are confused about the part I am looking for and want me to explain better and send pictures. I don’t know how much more info they need besides what I have already given them. The ice maker broke a month and a half before the having it a year, so even though I purchased an extended warranty, as of now it is just taking up space on my counter unusable. I certainly will not purchase another item that Curtis International is associated with for fear of another nightmare! Like I said, I loved this ice maker and used it daily up until it quite. Even Amazon will not help me in reference to reaching out them to get me a new machine or a refund. Very very disappointed!!!

What a gem I didn’t know these existed till YouTube I saw it had to get this machines my kids lovveee it so do I I know summer it will be lit lol right now we use 1 refill every other day and it fills within 7to nine minutes super fast ice is great just like sonic etc. Love It Grateful we eat on this ice all day my daughter literally sit by the Frigidaire and eat ice she like it so much the kids fill their water bottles for school and it’s great worth every penny save me sonic stops. Luxury high quality sound is bearable light Ice drops and cuts on off when not full can stop the sound by not adding water when ice is full or turning ice off if u don’t want to hear the machine at night. I have it in my living room with my Avalon water machine 2 great additions super excited to have these 2. Yess Ice is Great Better Than Sonic I actually can chew this ice. Gem

Bought one of these for my mom back in 2023. Loved this little machine, and it worked great for 14 months. It suddenly stopped working to our dismay. Thankfully I had done the extended Asurion warranty and within 15 minutes I had my money refunded and had a new one ordered. I recieved the new one January 25th, but was unable to open and use it until the beginning of March due to unforseen work travel. The new machine does not work straight out of the box and my Amazon return window closed 5 days prior. I contacted Fridgidaire, who informed me they do not know anything about the ice maker, I need to contact a company called Curtis. After contacting Curtis, they told me to try and return to Amazon, AFTER I had already stated my return window was closed. Now they have come back and want me to ship this 30+ lb ice maker (more accurately a brick since it doesnt work...) back to them on my dime. This is going to cost me a small fortune for a product that was DOA. I really loved the first ice maker, but this is totally bad faith by Fridgidaire who has their shiney name on this product but will not stand behind it. I was going to give 2 stars, really loved the first machine... but it died after 14 months, so I supposed it wasn't so great either. I never leave bad reviews, always manage to find the positives even when something is not quite what I hoped for. Buyer beware with this product, you may get a good one, but its a crap shoot !

If you need an ice maker or just want one, this is a great one! The nugget ice is exactly like the east to chew ice from fast food joints such as Sonic and Chick-fil-A. The ice maker is easy to use. Fill detachable tank with water, reattach by simply putting it back in place, and clicking the ice button. It is a bit tall so it will stick out on a kitchen countertop. I put mine in the living room that serves as a dry bar so now we have ice there too! It can be slightly noisy as it makes ice but it’s not bad. Makes ice relatively quickly. First batch in about 15 minutes. My wife loves it. She crunches on ice all the time and this kind is much easier on her teeth.

I've had this ice maker for a little over a year. It makes great ice quickly. Now for the negatives. It's really tall so it doesn't fit under the upper cabinets. I had to purchase a rolling cart for it to sit on in my laundry room which wasn't optimal, but it got the job done. Being in the laundry room was actually a blessing since it is so loud. Had I kept this in the kitchen it would have driven me mad. Another issue is filling the water tank. It's awkward to fill. I wish it had a side tank like single serve coffee makers. Yesterday, I started hearing very loud bangs coming from the laundry room which I assumed was coming from our washer or dryer as they were both in use. This morning I dumped the ice into our freezer bucket and it was covered with black specks. When I inspected the ice machine it had a huge bump and crack under the water tank. The bump is so large the water tank doesn't sit properly. It was a lot of money for just one year and 3 months of use.

I loved this ice machine. Unfortunately, it stopped making ice 4 months after I received it. I contacted the distributor and started the warranty process. I had to send the ice machine to them at MY COST. They are NOT speedy in a warranty resolution. 2 months later, they have indicated that I will receive a refund...not a new ice machine. So I am not only out the cost of the machine, but shipping costs so they could see that it was not working and a month after sending it to them I am still waiting on a complete resolution. So the warranty takes the cheap way out, do not send me a new unit and are sending a refund check which I am still waiting on…which, by the way doesn’t even include the tax I paid on the unit. VERY DISSAPPOINTED. FRIGIDAIRE IS A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BRAND AND USUALLY VERY RELIABLE. MAYBE I JUST HAD BAD LUCK BUT I'VE BEEN BURNED AND DON'T CARE TO TRY FOR A REPEAT! Here it is 3 months later, and I am still waiting on a refund check since they are apparently TOO CHEAP to replace the machine. They are not responsive to email and even after letting them know they check would have to be sent to my PO Box, they sent it to my street address and it was returned back to them, since we do not receive street delivery via the US Post Office.

We got this machine for our 23rd wedding anniversary as a gift for each other. It worked amazingly at first. Just as advertised with the "good" ice. We loved it and used it every day. At about 6 months, it started to make a squealing noise and it was slow to make ice. I did a full shut off, cleaned it really well and plugged it back in. I did all the trouble shooting steps. The noise was still there and now it would not make any ice. I contacted Assurant and was told they only take over after the first year. I went to look at Frigidare only to discover it isn't made by them. It is made by Curtis. I contacted Curtis and jumped through all kinds of hoops to make a claim. They told me I had to ship it to them. AT MY COST. From FL to CA for something that weighs 44 lbs. If I did not have access to my work's shipping rates, it would have been over $100 to ship to them. Ridiculous. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM! EDIT: They shipped me a new one back in April 2023 after I did the crazy warranty claim process. Guess what? Same thing. Brand new unit died again. Same story except this time, I was able to make a claim with Assurant. Got my entire purchase price refunded, so yay for that. I will NEVER buy another appliance from Curtis.
