  • Terrible ice machine
Here's the 100% factual truth: I bought and used this icemaker quite happily, until about month 2 when it started to leak out of the bottom. Every morning and several times throughout the day I found myself cleaning (using a paint scraper, truth!) to pry up the crystalized gunk that had accumulated to the point it was gross. I contacted the Company to utilize the glorious 1 year warranty they touted on both their listing and in the printed booklet that was sent with the ice maker. Thats when things got weird. The Company wanted a grocery list of hoops leapt through first. Which was puzzling already because my initial contact email contained multiple pictures, all of the identifying information to verify its validity. Ie:description, serial number, model number, my information, heck I even went as far as imaging the barcode off the back of the unit. But, that wasn't enough, apparently. (I was asked for all this info again multiple times throughout our "communication". Honestly at 35, you read that right, (over 12 weeks! ) 35 emails to them and although I am often described by others regularly as having incredible amounts of patience (im not gifted like that, lol,, i just see the world different than most) but even I couldn't help but get the impression I was being strung along by them. I mean, 3 months, and so many picture requirements...ones duplicates of my original email to them. So strange, and frustrating. Because Im still scraping off my granite multiple times throughout the day to l hopefully avoid the stomach-turning-goo-leak. At one point, they wanted me to direct a short film where (somehow) I was instructed to get underneath the Icemaker and film the bottom, looking up and have it operate normally for a complete round of nugget-making. Im creative, and bit of a dare devil...I just have very little fear in "forging a path not yet taken by humans or otherwise.." I used a slew of curse words normally not heard out of my mouth attempting this. How in the heck could I do it? I strategized placing it on a glass table and filming through the glass but its too heavy and I would be underneath it. I'm fearless, not stupid. I thought where the counter turns into a v shape I could suspend the ends of it, one on each side so a portion of the bottom would be visible where the v shape cutout was, kind of like a hammock swinging between two trees... but aside from the massive danger of the stunt, there was not enough of it visible that way, either. I had two helpers (more commonly known as teenagers)(lol) hold the ice maker which is heavyyyy, each on one side while i laid under it wearing what i call a hazmat suit labeled as a lab suit and outfitted with a respirator and goggles because again, adventureous, not stupid. But the damned thing was so far gone from not having been fixed months ago.. the ice was taking forever to form and between the eye rolling (probably at my outfit? ) and the complaining coming from those" helpers" I had recruited ..I was beginning to get annoyed myself.. I was, was seriously out of ideas. This is just one of the criteria they required I produce in a ridiculous list of angles and demands for inhuman tasks. I'll be posting pictures so all of this can be verified and sound decisions on whether to purchase this nightmare of an ice nugget machine, or not. I have since returned the item to Amazon directly. They were gracious enough to make good on the warranty that the manufacturer wouldn't honor. I know it an FTC violation and I've already begun the process of reporting the crimes this company committed, so chill. Dumb joke, huh? Chill. Lol. Ok, but I have since purchased what I would consider to be a far, far, far superior nugget maker that, upon the Initial unboxing of, was quite obviously constructed so much better. The plastic was sturdy and thick, the drawer "glided" in and out smoothly, it just was obviously a much higher quality machine. The opal 2.0 with the xl tank has honestly been a dream compared to the nightmare we have been through with this red paperweight. Furthermore, even without the horrible experience to compare it to, this thing stands out on its own. Really well made, no issues at all, I've had it over a month now and there is zero signs of decay or anything troublesome. When it starts squeaking-youve waited too long to clean it. Simple simon, back up your cleaning timeline a few days less in between, and everything is perfect once again. Screw this red crappy hunk of junk, and get the Opal. Honestly, you'll be so happy with it you will probably forget you ever read this review at all. And that is what I'm hoping for. Let me forge a path, get a little roadrash and take a beating...and tell you how to avoid it. Namaste, my friends. ... show more

  • Don't buy this or any Frigidaire appliance!
Color: BLACK STAINLESS
This item worked great for 4 1/2 months then totally quit working. Customer service was terrible. Claims had to be resolved in one week or you had to start all over and begin the process all over again. I provided exactly the information required and customer service kept asking for more and more information and photos and even a video of a broken ice maker. A video, really, what purpose could that possibly serve? It looks obvious to me that customers are setup to fail. I finally jumped through all of their hoops and packaged the thing up to send back at MY COST, not theirs. They wouldn't even provide a label that I could print with the proper information. I fount out shipping costs were going to be anywhere from $150 - $600. It's a big and heavy item to ship. No Thank You. I'll make my own ice. I'm not going to spend $150+ to ship this back and get a most likely refurbished one that probably would not last longer. I also found out that three other people that I know personally bought the same thing and those have all went bad as well. Do not buy this product unless you enjoy throwing away money. Shame on Frigidaire for being so terrible. I will certainly never buy any Frigidaire product again and will advise everyone I know to do the same. Update: After refusing to send the unit back due to high shipping costs, they had me render it unusable and take photos. (This option was not offered until after I refused to send it back) They told me they would either send a replacement or issue a refund. I wanted a refund but they sent a replacement instead. The replacement only lasted six weeks. I have a folder with near 60 emails to their customer "service" department. After jumping through all of the hoops I met their requirements. I insisted on a refund and told them I absolutely did not want another one. I will update again when I see how they respond. ... show more
