  • The Affordable Bi-Directional Scanner Every Mercedes. Sprinter, & Smart Car Owner Needs to Wrench
Purchased an old W220 S500 which showed no “check engine” light, SRS, or ABS faults on the dash. I did have some marker lights and suspension messages in the instrument cluster. Being that I had a wonderful BlueDriver scanner which has worked wonders as a bi-directional scanner for my GM vehicles, I figured it would be great for my Benz... nope. The BlueDriver couldn’t communicate, though their website confirms it worked. Started following the different Benz forums to find the best scanner. What I learned, the Mercedes Star software was the best solution, but good luck finding one for under $2k. Then I looked into the Autel high-end versions, but didn’t want to spend $800+ and pay annual fees. I came across this Foxwell on sale during Christmas time on Amazon. I discovered it was bi-directional and came Pre-loaded with the Make of choice with the option to buy other brands (BMW, VW/Audi, and more). Best it didn’t have an annual fee to keep it working. Once received I was able to diagnose the 60ish modules my 2006 S500 had, learning that I had about 30 faults... yikes! No wonder I got a great deal on this car. Anyway, I was able to reference each code on different Mercedes forums and started tackling each problem. The biggest issues with these older W220 Mercedes are: Airmatic pumps, airmatic shocks, and the horrible PSE door locking system. This scanner told me what soft close doors that malfunctioned, that my PSE unit in the trunk was bad, that my trunk opening unit had a short and so on. Best of all, the bi-directional tests allowed me to see each modules of my air suspension and door locking and run tests. Unreal! I’m a weekend warrior who enjoys wrenching. I’m not an expert but love that we can all wrench on anything with a scanner like this and YouTube. There’s a reason $85k+ 10 year old + cars are worth next to nothing, due to the complexities of over engineered knuckleheads in Germany. Go out and buy an old Benz, wrench on it and take something that was once amazing and bring it back to life for 5% -10% of the original MSRP. I highly recommend this scanner for its capabilities of looking into the specific modules (bi-directional) at an affordable price. Though this scanner is amazing, you can’t damage your car if you don’t know what your doing. Don’t expect to reprogram keys, or adjust complex systems like the Mercedes Star scanner. It’s something anyone can use and save thousands from the dealerships. ... show more

  • For MB this is the one to get, if you do your own repairs this is a very worthwhile investment
Took a few minutes to figure out how to get it to auto recognize the vehicle (key needs to be in second ignition position, not the first). Once in the system, there is a lot of information in your car. Feature that attracted me to this unit was ability to toggle certain systems thru the unit: I.e. it lets you open and shut your Charcoal Cannister Valve/open shut Purge valve. I was willing to pay more than the simplest ($100) units because I wanted bidirectional control...this has that ability. Liked that this was specific to MB, and it worked great on my ML500 from 2002. I recognized some of the old codes that had been previously tripped and repaired, and it was able to help diagnosed my vacuum leak and clear the code. Paid for itself on the first use, as dealer wanted $200 to test/clear the code. My advise: don't try to upload any new software, until you are very familiar with using the unit. The software my came with did all I needed it to do: the new update risked wiping the system (would be bad). Update 2023: I have three MBs, this works on them all. 2002/2014/2012. Saves me hundreds of dollars. Get one. ... show more

  • Excellent customer service
So, the MB at San Jose reported that my wife's car battery needed to be replaced. And they were asking $1200 to have that simple job done. They told us the battery needed to be imported from Germany, it would cost $800+ for the part (not true) and the rest is labor. They insisted that an official dealer is the only option (kinda true) because the new battery needs to be registered into the car's computer (haft truth). Or, else, the car won't work. Long story short, I bought this one and a $150 car battery from Amazon and have done it all by myself. The customer service was extremely helpful. They were fast to respond before I bought the unit and keep that fantastic support during the battery installation. I am impressed. The unit paid for itself after the first use, lol. Tips: - Upgrade the firmware of the device first. I can only perform the "battery reset" after the firmware update. - This unit is not only for MB, you can buy additional software packages for different brands with the provided software. ... show more

  • Good value, does adaptations, great choice at this price point for MB vehicles
I have several diesel Mercedes OM642-engine vehicles. Some of the codes can be exhausting to research, and vague OBD codes are of no value whatsoever with these vehicles. For years, I have had an MB iCarsoft II, and it was adequate. Until recently, it allowed you to view live data which was helpful. The MB iCarsoft II does not permit adaptations, however, and I needed a couple. At one point, I even purchased a XentryDas - but sold that after using it to reset an airbag light, and now regret selling it. Anyway, I recently had code 2624-001 appear, which is a vague MAF sensor drift code. The iCarsoft would clear it and it would immediately return. Purchased this, and did some adaptions to reset drift, new air filters, new fuel regulator, and reset MAF. Upon doing that, CEL finally went off and stayed off. This gets extra points for being able to add additional vehicles. The extra cars cost $60, which seems very reasonable to me. ... show more

  • Fantastic scanner, allowed me to do rodeo mode / ABC flush / air removal on my 2001 Mercedes s500
Not many scanners are able to perform the rodeo mode and other proprietary Mercedes things but this can.
