I have been using this rug in front of my wood stove in order to protect the floor. During the year I own it, burning coals fell on it more than a few times. On the plus side, they never burnt through both layers (althought I always attempted to scoop them quickly), so the rug did work as a floor protector. On the downside, it is definitley not "fireproof". Each time the coals would burn through the top layer before I would manage to scoop them up, and with a rather unpleasnt plasticky smell. After a year, the woven-looking top layer looks like a rug full of holes, The shiny bottom layer is intact thus far. So I'm torn now trying to decide which one looks less ugly to be kept on top.

Didn’t think that I would need this but after I got it, I’m really glad I purchased it. Haven’t had so many hot embers fall from my stove since I got it. Saved my floor in front of stove many times over. Does what it’s advertised as being fire resistant. Would recommend one for anyone with a wood stove or grill where hot items are likely to fall.
