  • Very nice thermal imager
This is a great little thermal camera. Most importantly you need to know the limitations and quirks of thermal imagers. I've used many different kinds and styles with the fire department, would I depend on this in a house fire? Short answer, "no". But I never fully relied on any of the thermal cameras at work either, and they were all WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than this. If it were all Ihad available I'd use it for work. For my needs at home you can't beat the price. I've used it to find water leaks, areas needing insulation work, helped a friend winterize their camper and find some overheating electrical components. When the screen freezes that's pretty much normal. It's common even on more expensive units, it's the camera recalibrating when the high and low temps change drastically within the image area. Also remember shiny objects reflect heat. For example a stainless steel elevator door or large pane of glass is like a mirror to a thermal camera. Learn the capabilities and limitations of thermal imaging before complaining. I've used $12,000+ thermal cameras that were less capable than this camera for $200. I love mine and have fun with it. It gets the job done. Is great for so many jobs. Plumbers love them after installing radiant floor heating to show customers the system is working, etc. So for the money it's awesome. ... show more

  • Easy to find insulation issues with in my house.
Used this to check my house for any insulation problems and found two areas in my ceiling that was missing insulation along with vent drafts. It works well and really like the thermal visual mix mode, it makes it easy to understand what I'm looking at.

  • A must to conduct an energy efficient report on a house!
I am builder and currently ding a full house remodel on a older home that was not very well built, The insulation was not installed correctly and ts camera has allowed me to detect all the problem areas. It is also very useful to check any HVAC ductworks to see where you have leaks. I have been able to seal very well all the electrical penetrations and crevices around windows and doors where I needed. I comes with good manual that explains all the operation, such as the photo capturing , the multiple available modes . The laser pointer allows you to know exactly where the issues are located. The unit has a threaded insert on the handle that allows you to mount on a camera mount or tripo readings and data Very happy with the product. ... show more

  • Helped me pinpoint a problem!
I was really excited to get this camera. I've always wanted one. I may have watched too many ghost-hunting shows! These cameras used to be insanely expensive. Seriously like 5K. So it's great that they are now available at reasonable prices. I actually needed this item as I have a bee problem. They are in the wall on one side of my house, but it's not easy to know exactly where they are. Unless you have a thermal-imaging camera! Once I turned the camera on it was very easy to pinpoint the location of the bees. There nest was bright red on the monitor next to otherwise green and blue walls. I also used it casually to look for electrical power flowing in my walls and where the lines were. This tool has already been extremely helpful and I look forward to using it in other parts of my home. I also plan to experiment with finding wildlife at night. I'm always looking for owls, and most evade me! But now I have superpowers! Thanks Firecore! ... show more

  • Great quality at a very reasonable price. Easy to use, and durable.
My first impression on picking up this thermal camera ia that it si built very solidly and would be able to withstand some drops or bangs. I did not test that, but it gives me the impression it is built to last. The front and back of the handle have a slightly grippier texture than the white body helping to ensure it stays in your hands. It is very easy and intuitive to use, allowing you to get started quickly with things like checking for insulation leaks around doors and windows, checking hot spots in your circuit breaker panel, finding leaks in HVAC, etc. There are many modes and settings that allow for more advanced use, but I found it was adequate and easy right out of the box. There is a laser pointer when you pull the trigger that makes it clear what you are pointing at on the screen. This is helpful if you're in a darker room. The trigger also captures a screen shot which can be downloaded later for review. There is a very clear and easy to read indicator on the screen of temperature at the current center point, as well as the high and low temps on the field of view. Menus are very easy to use, and the screen interface is responsive. You can spend a lot of money on other cameras, but if you're a DIY'er, that investment might not be returned. I feel that this camera provides a huge amount of value for a very reasonable price while maintaining a quality level that leads to a long life and enjoyable use. Highly recommend! ... show more
