Description

Learn to live and lead with enthusiasm and optimism, impact your team, and transform your culture In Row the Boat, Minnesota Golden Gophers Head Coach P.J. Fleck and bestselling author Jon Gordon deliver an inspiring message about what you can achieve when you approach life with a never-give-up philosophy. The book shows you how to choose enthusiasm and optimism as your guiding lights instead of being defined by circumstances and events outside of your control. Discover how to put the three key components of row the boat into practice in your life: The Oar: The energy. Only you can dictate whether your oar is in the water or whether you take it out and decide not to use it. The Boat: The sacrifice. The more you give, serve, and make your life about helping others, the better and more fulfilled your life will be, and the bigger your boat gets. The Compass: The direction. The vision you have for your life and the people you surround yourself with help create the dream of where you want to go. Perfect for athletes, coaches, business leaders, and anyone else who hopes to squeeze a little more enjoyment and productivity out of life, Row the Boat will propel leaders, teams, and organizations to greater heights than they have ever reached before. • As one familiar with Coach Flecks message, this book still provides new information
I first started following Coach Fleck when he was at Western Michigan and was fascinated by his “Row the Boat” mantra. I’ve listened to podcasts and read articles featuring Coach Fleck to learn more about his philosophies. Many of the concepts in the book were those that I had already heard from him, but the book provided plenty of gems of wisdom and new takeaways. Here are a few ideas that I hadn’t heard before: •never be a better football than you are a person •failing = growth, failure = quitting •culture = connecting people positively •accountability = never letting someone NOT be who they say they are In addition to the above, there are so many more lessons that I look forward to implementing with the youth I coach, as well as my own children. However, the principles apply to all ages. I could have devoured more, but the length of the book provides a quick read and allows you to walk away with concrete takeaways that can have an immediate impact. A must must read for any coach building a program and culture! RTB!! ... show more

  • PJ Fleck is a Force of Nature - A True Leader of Men
PJ Fleck created winning cultures in his first two head coaching jobs. How? His Row the Boat mantra. This book details his experience, strength and hope through life's adversity and now those molded him into the man he is today. He created the Row mantra as Western Michigan and refined it at The University of Minnesota. At both schools he took them to record win totals in under 4 years. Most importantly, he has successfully created a culture of selfless service where he truly puts his athletes and staff above all else and expects them to extend the same other's centered approach in their lives. Therefore, thousands of service hours, better than ever GPAs, and rock solid team cohesion have been noticed and studied by many other coaches throughout the nation. PJ is a force of nature. This book helps explain why. If we can take only a little and implement it in our own homes, neighborhoods and communities, the world will be a better place. No need to tweet for change... it starts at home my friends, listen to PJ. All love! #RTB ... show more

  • Jon finds another difference maker.
Jon does such a great job of finding people who are making a postivie impact on our world. PJ Fleck is definitely one. I love big 10 football. Home state Michigan, so yes I am a Wolverine. But seriously PJ Fleck is molding young people. We need more leders like these two. The concept is really simple. Read the book and teach it to your children, employees, groups, etc. We need more of this today to change our world and making us stronger. ... show more
