I first started following Coach Fleck when he was at Western Michigan and was fascinated by his “Row the Boat” mantra. I’ve listened to podcasts and read articles featuring Coach Fleck to learn more about his philosophies. Many of the concepts in the book were those that I had already heard from him, but the book provided plenty of gems of wisdom and new takeaways. Here are a few ideas that I hadn’t heard before: •never be a better football than you are a person •failing = growth, failure = quitting •culture = connecting people positively •accountability = never letting someone NOT be who they say they are In addition to the above, there are so many more lessons that I look forward to implementing with the youth I coach, as well as my own children. However, the principles apply to all ages. I could have devoured more, but the length of the book provides a quick read and allows you to walk away with concrete takeaways that can have an immediate impact. This book details his experience, strength and hope through life's adversity and now those molded him into the man he is today. He created the Row mantra as Western Michigan and refined it at The University of Minnesota. At both schools he took them to record win totals in under 4 years. Most importantly, he has successfully created a culture of selfless service where he truly puts his athletes and staff above all else and expects them to extend the same other's centered approach in their lives. Jon does such a great job of finding people who are making a postivie impact on our world. PJ Fleck is definitely one. I love big 10 football. Home state Michigan, so yes I am a Wolverine. But seriously PJ Fleck is molding young people. We need more leders like these two. The concept is really simple. Read the book and teach it to your children, employees, groups, etc. We need more of this today to change our world and making us stronger. ... show more

Coach Fleck is one of my favorite coaches and i own several Jon Gordon books which inspire and motivate me and my team. Together, these two are powerful and motivating. I will use this book to drive my culture and combine the RTB lifestyle to create value and performance within my team!
