I'm very impressed with this skillet. Before ordering I read how non-stick Field touted their products, but I was still a bit skeptical. I washed and seasoned it as per the instruction card that came with the pan, and the first time I used it - it was indeed smooth on the surface and non-stick. The heat distribution was just as you would expect from a quality cast iron pan. The 10.25" is perfect for two people, and, while a tad bit spendy, it's a good price for a high quality pan. One can imagine the work that goes into a pan of this quality.

This skillet is fantastic! I use this five times per week, and it's stong, and lighter weight than others making it easier to handle. I have cooked eggs, stews, and fried bacon with ease in this pan. The pre-seasoning helped a great deal, and has made cleaning much easier. This pan holds a main pasta dish for three so the volume is good for a family meal.

Pan is silky smooth, wonderful to cook in right away. Followed directions, tried pan out with a stir fry. Eggs included. Pan was non stick, able to scrape with spatula, wipe clean and season. I have owned my mother's beautiful Griswold iron pan for years. I did not think I would ever find a new pan with the same qualities. The iron is thinner than most new cast iron pans. Beautiful. The inside is just as smooth as my old Griswold pan. I have been using pan almost non stop for everything. Almost everything cooks non stick. When I did have to wash, a soft nylon scrubby cleaned it almost instantly. I cooked chicken in the oven with it. Fabulous! The size is good for everyday use, but a bigger one is needed for a whole chicken. I would purchase this pan again!

I finally gave up on a #6 cast iron pan I bought over 30 years ago. It never performed as well as my older classic pans (a larger 10 3/4 inch and a smaller 8 inch) and it was not completely flat. It rocked on our glass top stove. So I used some gift money and bought a Field #6. What a difference! It fits perfectly on our glass top induction stove (no rocking), and it has performed every bit as well as our well seasoned and beloved classic pans. And it’s lighter and easier to handle. It’s the pan I reach for most of the time now.

The weight is the star on this pan. I can’t say the “pre-seasoning” is all that accurate. I had issues with things sticking after its first use. The clean up was not one expected with a pre-seasoned pan. It is solid and good quality iron. I assumed the high price was due to the pre-seasoning. I did see another light weight pan much cheaper advertised on Amazon. I can’t compare the two since I’ve not tried the much cheaper light weight pan. I suppose if you don’t mind seasoning the pan yourself go with the cheaper version. It’s a good pan possibly not worth the higher price. I will keep the pan. I’m not sure I will purchase more in the line due to pricing.

It has been pre-seasoned however, TEAD INSTRUCTIONS! It must be seasoned 3-4 more times! Which is fine! The surface is smooth and wonderful. Not like some new iron pans even Lodge has a rough inside surface! They are horrible. This Field Iron Skillet is PERFECT! (Discoloration is normal and expected! You want it to darken with use!) Well worth the price!

The media could not be loaded. This Field cast iron pan came pre-seasoned and I used it right away. The picture is after a few “cooks” and the discoloration is normal and will even out over time. I was really surprised at how non stick this Field pan naturally is. Tonight, just to prove a point to my wife who swears by non stick for eggs, I preheated the pan, added a dab of oil and cracked two eggs. I let it cook for about a minute and checked the sides with a metal spatula. The sides lifted effortlessly and I was even able to slide the egg! I did not expect this much from this pan. Video attached! It’s expensive, yes, but unless you want to go through rounds & rounds of seasoning on a cheap Lodge and still have your food stick… invest in a Field cast iron pan!!
