  • This is by far one of the best coop accessory purchases!
Color: Gray Size: 11.0"L x 4.0"W x 14.0"H
I didn't need/want an automatic door that could be controlled with an app, as our "retirement" coop is far and away smaller than the one that housed 40 feathered friends in younger years. The coop is also too far from the house to get reliable Internet connection. We now live where there is a limit of 10 for flock size (and no roos). Nine girls are housed in small coop connected to a couple of merged outdoor runs (buried apron, solar fence inside backyard fence). Earlier, we installed a Coop Collective lighting system from Amazon (https://a.co/d/5pgFRp1), another amazing purchase. The chicken friendly lights come on exactly 9 hours after dusk and glow inside the coop, even extending a bit into the run. As winter approached, the girls were left locked inside a small brightly lit coop until I arrived to release them into the run. I was dragging myself up (retirement, remember?) just past 0200 to let the girls into the run. This prompted me to search for an automatic door, something I had never felt inclined to do when I had a humongous coop. My DH was "agin' it", reasoning auto doors could be unreliable and even dangerous to the girls. However, I was the one making the trek outside each day at dark-thirty. After reading reviews, I quickly ruled out many highly recommended auto coop doors. I found this Farmlite door during an internet search, saw it available on Amazon, read the reviews, and ordered it without confession. We are delighted! At first we tried the dawn/dusk setting for the door, but quickly realized that the light sensor for the door is under run covering, while the sensor for the light is mounted outside the coop. Settings of light & door didn't sync, so were unreliable for our intended use. We switched to the timer settings on the door and now tweak the dawn and dusk settings a few minutes earlier every few days as we progress into winter. Settings are quite accessible and easy to change for this door. The closest thing we've had to a problem is when we unwittingly let the door's chicken sensor cord fall in front of the sensor eye. We had a good laugh when we saw the door repeatedly start to close before quickly reversing. The cord was being sensed as a hen! Problem solved. The door is functioning flawlessly. I rake grubs into the soil of the run every night. Girls wake up to lights on, an open door, and grub treats first thing each new day. Our doggo actually gets a walk before I head to the coop. If some reviews have left you questioning whether an auto coop door is worth the investment, I urge you to give FarmLite a try. Life is good. Blessings. ... show more

  • Very good quality door with quality support if needed Very good quality door with quality support if needed
Color: Gray Size: 11.0"L x 4.0"W x 14.0"H
I build custom chicken coops and iv just started using these recently. Iv put on 2 so far, and im really happy with the build quality. The dusk to dawn function works very consistantly. The motor function is very smooth and hasnt had any issues in 2 months of use. I do run power setups for my coops most of the time so these work well. If solar is needed its an extra few things or kit you would need which sets ypu back a bit. And i will have to complain about the large external battery needed that comes in the solar upgrade kit. It would need its own shelf. This isnt a big deal, But it does at the same time work towards being a robust and good system. If cost isnt the issue, this is a great option. Great adjustability and also comes with 2 remotes which are a nice option. You'd be able to open and close the door from a distance or your home. It has a sensor for safety of the animals to not close on them. Iv heard of this happening to other farmers. Very nice appearance amd material is solid. Happy with my choice here. Will continue to use them. I didnt need tech support but a video in the description shows the owner was free to help in anyway. Also provided contact info in box. ... show more

  • So easy to install that a city boy could do it. - Update 05/20/23
With its aluminum door panel and frame, plus the metal gear, this chicken door is built to last. I did a lot of research on these things before I opted for this one and I'm glad I did. There are much cheaper auto-doors made of plastic. I doubt they would hold up for more than a few months around here where it is 90+ F in the summer and sometimes as low as -10F in the winter. The features are excellent in that you can power it three different ways. I notice that when powered by a battery/solar setup the door moves a bit more slowly than if it is plugged into the wall-wart power supply but that is to be expected and is not an issue at all. Mine is powered by solar. I use the light-detect method of opening the door and the remote makes it a snap to open or close if I so desire. I like the fact that you can set the torque required to open and close the hatch. The only thing that I think would make this an even better value is if the batteries came with the remotes. They operate on bluetooth. The battery isn't really hard to find at a hardware store but you won't find them at 7-11 around the corner. Don't be fooled by the fake 1-star chi-bot-generated reviews. Those are probably from competitors. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this door. While it is made in China (what isn't these days?) it is by far a very robust design. The manual is top-shelf. No weird Chinglish language gaffs in it. Everything you need to know is right there. And don't laugh at the little screwdriver included in the kit like one YouTube reviewer did. Its purpose is to adjust the sensitivity on the infra-red sensor that stops the door if a chicken is present during the close cycle. Customer service is beyond reproach. I had a question and I emailed the company on a Sunday not expecting to hear back til the next day or two. I got my answer within 15 minutes. All in all I highly recommend this door if you are in the market for such a product. ------------UPDATE--------------- Here we are 5 weeks after I installed this door and it is working like a charm. I run mine on solar and it is absolutely fantastic. It's amazing how NOT having to go out every evening to close the door and every morning to open it changes my schedule. After watching carefully and adjusting the light settings I can safely just forget about it now and I can rest assured that my flock is safe from predators. Great product! ------6 Month UPDATE--------------- Still working like a charm. I REALLY love this door! It has saved me so much time and trouble - absolutely highly recommended. I run it with the solar option and it's just so convenient. I basically never even think about it. ... show more

  • works very well
We love almost everything about this door. It was easy to install, what I call the garage door safety light to keep chickens from getting caught, the bright red and green LED lights that let you know if it is moving open or closed, and the ability to open and close at precise times (that were reasonably easy to program). We have not utilized the ability to open and close with light and dark. The included remotes work well from a reasonable distance. The only negative we have about it is the volatile memory. Without the included battery pack attached, if you lose power you lose all programming and the door will stay wherever it was last (open or closed). ... show more

  • Highly Recommend!! Have used this through all seasons now! Highly Recommend!! Have used this through all seasons now!
This door works great, is easy to install and customer service is amazing. I have had it installed almost a year, including a rough winter.... and I bought it long before I got around to installing it. When it got damaged due to someone making an install mistake it continued to work until it finally shorted out months later due to the hole my guy drilled into the LED strip. They helped me trouble shoot this problem and got it back up and running. It was GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Highly recommend! Good quality, good instructions and they really standby the product!! Great value!!!! Thanks FarmLite! ... show more

  • High quality automatic chicken door and solar powered backup that is easy to install and configure High quality automatic chicken door and solar powered backup that is easy to install and configure
Over the decades I have installed a variety of chicken doors, but this one tops all of them in quality and ease of configuration for automatic operation. We have been in the chicken egg business for many years, and started out by opening and closing the hen house door manually. Not always reliable and definitely a chore morning and evening. We progressed to coop doors with automatic door openers. Some more successful than others, but none as well engineered as the Farmlite coop door. I knew the minute I opened the box that the door was well built with its steel components. I quickly installed my new coop door on an existing rough opening with four screws; then drilled one hole to bring the D/C power cord through the wall to the door head, which contains power connectors, ambient light sensor, remote sensor, and electronic components. I then configured the door to open and close automatically by ambient light. Settings I made were time and date, turned off time-dependent operation, turned on ambient light operation and set the amount of light to detect. These are the only settings I configured to automatically open and close the door reliably at sunrise and sunset. This entire installation took less than 30 minutes. To test reliability, I looked up sunrise and sunset times, watched the door from my house and could easily tell it opened with the rows of flashing green LED lights that bound the door, which indicate that the door is opening in the morning and the rows of red LED lights to indicate the door closing in the evenings. I also tested my remote control fobs after pairing them. They worked very well from over a 100ft. I also purchased a solar powered battery backup. I have not installed it yet, but will update this review with my experience when I can get to it. I will also add photos soon. I also had questions concerning installation, so contacted Farmlite at [email protected]. Mitch, contacted me that same day and satisfactorily easily addressed my questions and concerns. I love the Farmlite coop door and recommend it for hen houses in your backyard or larger operations. -- Life is Good! ... show more

  • The door to pick if you're as picky as me! The door to pick if you're as picky as me!
Color: Gray Size: 11.0"L x 4.0"W x 14.0"H
I shopped automatic chicken door openers for months before deciding on the FarmLite. What convinced me to pick this one? First, there were wonderful reviews, not only on the door, but on the owner as well. When issues came up with the product, customers bragged on how quickly and cheerfully they were resolved. Secondly, I moved to a predator-rich rural home in the northern tier of PA. I looked for a strongly built and reliable product. This ruled out all except metal units. I needed a door that could protect the birds from all the hungry and capable predators from raccoons, possums and foxes, up to bears. My door is inside of a fenced run, so this door passed the test. Haven't decided how I'd feel if it were on the outside of the coop. Finally, I was super impressed that this door can be powered by 110V household current, solar, and even an emergency backup battery pack! If all other doors were equal, then that was the tiebreaker. I ordered the door and bench tested it in the house. Seemed OK, but then it went wonky. I got in touch with Mitch and he called me that evening. He walked me through some tests and decided to try another unit. When the replacement came, I installed it on my hen house using a solar panel. I programmed it to open and close using the ambient light versus a timer. The daylight disappears quickly here over the mountains, and the automatic feature manages it perfectly! Overall, I am very pleased with this product and highly recommend it. Mitch is a wonderful businessman, and this door fits my requirements. This door was mounted horizontally on a TSC chicken coop. And yes, those are long paint stir sticks. Hey, they fit the spot exactly! ... show more

  • Dependable safe door that Automated am/pm chicken chores! Dependable safe door that Automated am/pm chicken chores!
🥰NOW I can go out once a day (when things are going well) and actually ENJOY my time with my girls... vs. trudging out no matter the weather first thing in am and then before totally dark to let out/lock them up in their OLD coop with traditional door! This is an amazing company to work with first off- Mitch has been SO helpful with any little issues or questions that arose- just send him an email and he'll be back in touch in no time at all! The door may not be made here (yet- he says- it's a goal!) BUT the company who is selling it IS and that does matter- true customer service in the US- he really cares about his product and his customers- that much is very clear!! So no worries on the 'no phone number'... trust me! My only "disappointment" has even now been addressed- I was under the impression it truly had a "backup" with the battery pack in case something happened with power while we were actually gone! But when it arrived, my DH had to show me repeatedly that no- there is but ONE plug for power so you gotta choose! SO, when we DID have a power glitch (our fault on solar set up trying to reuse equipment that came with our old coop/house) I was able to get the power pack and change the plug right there on the front left and poof- had power to open the door and let the girls out! (MUCH better than letting them out the 'back' people door into the yard!!) We installed this in a brand new custom built (over a LOT of time with a lot of love!) shed/coop combo with attached covered run. Truly we spared no expense when it came to getting the best we could for safety so that I could truly trust my design/build and know the girls were safe even when I was having a particularly bad day! (chronic pain/illness) I have finally actually achieved that trust! That's HUGE for me 😉 (thanks to my poor husband too who put up with- despite groans and eye rolls 🙄-my constant questions if this or that needs to be covered too!🤣 I've seen wasps and butterflies stuck in this thing trying to find a way out after the run door is shut! ) Update **Have spoken with Mitch before writing this (to be sure I wasn't going to say that wrong re: battery back up- as it really was a big part of why I chose this unit!) and he is sending out some type of adapter as evidently some units were sent out with only one plug vs. two. Which he said it should have- so we WILL have a battery pack installed as true back up!! 😊🙏🤗) I'm adding plenty of photos cause personally those are the reviews I pay most attention to! You KNOW they're real! I've read people comment, that the remotes require you to buy special batteries- c'est la vie! I'd rather have the door be top notch!! I knew this in advance and just used handy 'ole Amazon to order some! Btw- we had one of the two remotes that just didn't work despite all troubleshooting and when I wrote Mitch (how I know he responds!) he sent out two new ones so we now have 3 working remotes! Got a 5 pk of batteries so...🤣 even more back up! Btw- those remotes HAVE come in handy more than once- if say one of my girls is sick and I need her inside but don't want to play "chase the chicken" all over the run forever, I'll just entice her inside and use that remote from inside to keep the others out until I can get her moved over to the shed side for whatever is needed...then open again for access to egg boxes for whoever is flipping out! haha Also have closed it from inside on particularly cold nights when they went to bed early while I was still in there. Now that it's getting very warm- I set it to close a good 10-15 min. AFTER it gets dark to really let things cool down once they settle down to sleep... also those little holes in the door that the gear uses to raise and lower it- yet more 'ventilation'! ;-) Granted our run is covered, but have never had any moisture come in at all! Turned out to be a nice "extra"! The remotes work from pretty far away too- our coop is a GOOD distance from the house and I've had it work from our bathroom window just to see! Not much else I can say- great door, easy install, looks great, dependable, easy to see even from a distance when it's opening and closing due to the LED lights, and even the first time it was tested with my girls right there- no one jumped or even seemed to notice- it's very quiet and smooth! They haven't seemed afraid of it at ALL... in fact when I have had to intervene to let them out for whatever reason, they are ducking down to get OUT before it's even all the way open! Thankful even more then for what seems like a truly dependable sensor to prevent a horrible accident! I've tested it every way and took advice in book/website for placement, etc. to ensure that if anyone is coming in or out- the door will stop and open back up. The settings can look daunting, but honestly, I just left them the way they came on all but setting the current time, the time to open, and time to close. Left the rest as is- you can keep scrolling until you get to the beginning again OR just stop after making a change (or just checking the times on settings) and after a few seconds it will revert back to the current time on display. Pretty easy- I prefer times- not just cause I don't have to worry about light sensitivity settings etc. but my girls were used to me coming out kinda late (for chickens) so they have a leisurely am inside and at 745am the door opens and they come running down the ramp! Also, they're party girls and like to push bedtime some days- esp if they've been out in yard- a common late afternoon ritual on my "one time" out there! 🤗 So I set it to allow for any stragglers getting in one last munch before heading up to bed! Can't say enough- order it!!! Best thing ever!! ... show more
