🥰NOW I can go out once a day (when things are going well) and actually ENJOY my time with my girls... vs. trudging out no matter the weather first thing in am and then before totally dark to let out/lock them up in their OLD coop with traditional door! This is an amazing company to work with first off- Mitch has been SO helpful with any little issues or questions that arose- just send him an email and he'll be back in touch in no time at all! The door may not be made here (yet- he says- it's a goal!) BUT the company who is selling it IS and that does matter- true customer service in the US- he really cares about his product and his customers- that much is very clear!! So no worries on the 'no phone number'... trust me! My only "disappointment" has even now been addressed- I was under the impression it truly had a "backup" with the battery pack in case something happened with power while we were actually gone! But when it arrived, my DH had to show me repeatedly that no- there is but ONE plug for power so you gotta choose! SO, when we DID have a power glitch (our fault on solar set up trying to reuse equipment that came with our old coop/house) I was able to get the power pack and change the plug right there on the front left and poof- had power to open the door and let the girls out! (MUCH better than letting them out the 'back' people door into the yard!!) We installed this in a brand new custom built (over a LOT of time with a lot of love!) shed/coop combo with attached covered run. Truly we spared no expense when it came to getting the best we could for safety so that I could truly trust my design/build and know the girls were safe even when I was having a particularly bad day! (chronic pain/illness) I have finally actually achieved that trust! That's HUGE for me 😉 (thanks to my poor husband too who put up with- despite groans and eye rolls 🙄-my constant questions if this or that needs to be covered too!🤣 I've seen wasps and butterflies stuck in this thing trying to find a way out after the run door is shut! ) Update **Have spoken with Mitch before writing this (to be sure I wasn't going to say that wrong re: battery back up- as it really was a big part of why I chose this unit!) and he is sending out some type of adapter as evidently some units were sent out with only one plug vs. two. Which he said it should have- so we WILL have a battery pack installed as true back up!! 😊🙏🤗) I'm adding plenty of photos cause personally those are the reviews I pay most attention to! You KNOW they're real! I've read people comment, that the remotes require you to buy special batteries- c'est la vie! I'd rather have the door be top notch!! I knew this in advance and just used handy 'ole Amazon to order some! Btw- we had one of the two remotes that just didn't work despite all troubleshooting and when I wrote Mitch (how I know he responds!) he sent out two new ones so we now have 3 working remotes! Got a 5 pk of batteries so...🤣 even more back up! Btw- those remotes HAVE come in handy more than once- if say one of my girls is sick and I need her inside but don't want to play "chase the chicken" all over the run forever, I'll just entice her inside and use that remote from inside to keep the others out until I can get her moved over to the shed side for whatever is needed...then open again for access to egg boxes for whoever is flipping out! haha Also have closed it from inside on particularly cold nights when they went to bed early while I was still in there. Now that it's getting very warm- I set it to close a good 10-15 min. AFTER it gets dark to really let things cool down once they settle down to sleep... also those little holes in the door that the gear uses to raise and lower it- yet more 'ventilation'! ;-) Granted our run is covered, but have never had any moisture come in at all! Turned out to be a nice "extra"! The remotes work from pretty far away too- our coop is a GOOD distance from the house and I've had it work from our bathroom window just to see! Not much else I can say- great door, easy install, looks great, dependable, easy to see even from a distance when it's opening and closing due to the LED lights, and even the first time it was tested with my girls right there- no one jumped or even seemed to notice- it's very quiet and smooth! They haven't seemed afraid of it at ALL... in fact when I have had to intervene to let them out for whatever reason, they are ducking down to get OUT before it's even all the way open! Thankful even more then for what seems like a truly dependable sensor to prevent a horrible accident! I've tested it every way and took advice in book/website for placement, etc. to ensure that if anyone is coming in or out- the door will stop and open back up. The settings can look daunting, but honestly, I just left them the way they came on all but setting the current time, the time to open, and time to close. Left the rest as is- you can keep scrolling until you get to the beginning again OR just stop after making a change (or just checking the times on settings) and after a few seconds it will revert back to the current time on display. Pretty easy- I prefer times- not just cause I don't have to worry about light sensitivity settings etc. but my girls were used to me coming out kinda late (for chickens) so they have a leisurely am inside and at 745am the door opens and they come running down the ramp! Also, they're party girls and like to push bedtime some days- esp if they've been out in yard- a common late afternoon ritual on my "one time" out there! 🤗 So I set it to allow for any stragglers getting in one last munch before heading up to bed! Can't say enough- order it!!! Best thing ever!!

This automatic chicken coop door is everything I wish I had prior to my last flock getting decimated in the middle of a brighter than bright full moon night. I was sooooo sad and felt such tremendous guilt as their chicken tender thinking that I could have done more. The coop and run were fully netted off and seemed secure enough- but time told the tale of living in the country. Wildlife abundant, and they are hungry too. Sad. fast forward to my new 9 tiny chicks peeping at me from their brooder and I vowed to find a better solution. One that would cement their survival through the bright full moons and every single night they cooed themselves to sleep. THIS was it!!! I spent the time, read the reviews, did the due diligence, compared all the models and the setup and assembly ease and decided that I needed a reliable automatic door that had remotes with great range and simple functional controls- and the ability to do solar if I wished and offered backup battery support - but ultimately I needed a direct power source connection and was more than happy with this option. The remotes are fabulous and have a very very long range and the door is very sturdy, reliable and has not given me or my birds any issues from day one. I love the sensor function - the door is never at risk of closing on my farther friends and I especially love the bright green and bright red colors that line the door as it goes up and down. The only issue I really have - if I can call it that - is that I find that the directions to set the timer and or the sensor for daylight/darkness for the door to come up and down is so convoluted and difficult to understand. It’s bizarre. You don’t want to lose your instruction manual booklet… you will need it for sure. In any case- once I trusted that I set it correctly (24 hour clock/military time set only!) and watched it open and close during its designated hours- I’ve been thrilled ever since. Would easily purchase again. Highly recommend! Oh also- important side note for me- this automatic chicken coop door does NOT require you to download an app. That in of itself I really appreciated as I do not like to be slave to my phone. If that is something you’re looking for - this is not that.

With its aluminum door panel and frame, plus the metal gear, this chicken door is built to last. I did a lot of research on these things before I opted for this one and I'm glad I did. There are much cheaper auto-doors made of plastic. I doubt they would hold up for more than a few months around here where it is 90+ F in the summer and sometimes as low as -10F in the winter. The features are excellent in that you can power it three different ways. I notice that when powered by a battery/solar setup the door moves a bit more slowly than if it is plugged into the wall-wart power supply but that is to be expected and is not an issue at all. Mine is powered by solar. I use the light-detect method of opening the door and the remote makes it a snap to open or close if I so desire. I like the fact that you can set the torque required to open and close the hatch. The only thing that I think would make this an even better value is if the batteries came with the remotes. They operate on bluetooth. The battery isn't really hard to find at a hardware store but you won't find them at 7-11 around the corner. Don't be fooled by the fake 1-star chi-bot-generated reviews. Those are probably from competitors. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this door. While it is made in China (what isn't these days?) it is by far a very robust design. The manual is top-shelf. No weird Chinglish language gaffs in it. Everything you need to know is right there. And don't laugh at the little screwdriver included in the kit like one YouTube reviewer did. Its purpose is to adjust the sensitivity on the infra-red sensor that stops the door if a chicken is present during the close cycle. Customer service is beyond reproach. I had a question and I emailed the company on a Sunday not expecting to hear back til the next day or two. I got my answer within 15 minutes. All in all I highly recommend this door if you are in the market for such a product. ------------UPDATE--------------- Here we are 5 weeks after I installed this door and it is working like a charm. I run mine on solar and it is absolutely fantastic. It's amazing how NOT having to go out every evening to close the door and every morning to open it changes my schedule. After watching carefully and adjusting the light settings I can safely just forget about it now and I can rest assured that my flock is safe from predators. Great product! ------6 Month UPDATE--------------- Still working like a charm. I REALLY love this door! It has saved me so much time and trouble - absolutely highly recommended. I run it with the solar option and it's just so convenient. I basically never even think about it.

Set this up yesterday- pretty easy. This is replacing my Omlet door that gets rocks/sand stuck in the tracks all the time and fails to close at night. I wish I had just gotten this in the first place. This is set up from the coop to the run- so weather protected. Time will tell how it works once we hit winter and below zero temps. Only thing that is so-so is the battery backup is 8 AA batteries and says it’s only 3 days of power. I’m optimistic that this is the last door I will have to buy for quite a while. I will update after a few months of use.

Easy to set up, made solid, works well so far. They thought of everything, various connectors, a rain guard, etc. this is a very solid unit and is easy to program. Also has 2 remote controllers. The manufacturer offers a solar setup as well.

I have never done this before but felt compelled to update my review. I have had this door in continuous operation for a couple of years now and have not had any problems. The product has proven durable and reliable. I have had to leave my chickens on their own for over a week and it is comforting to have confidence that my girls are safe and secure in their coop each night. I could not be happier. So I took some time before I wrote this review. I had originally installed a solar powered door for my coop which lasted around 6 months before it stopped working. That's when I found out it was made in China and offered no customer support. What impressed me about this company is that, even before I bought the product, they were very responsive to my emails regarding questions about the product. Installation was very easy. I chose not to use solar so I had to provide a power source near my coop. That said, the product does support a solar power source but this is not provided. [It would be helpful if they partnered with someone that did this. I just don't have the time/inclination right now to do the research to figure that out. This is not a criticism - just meant as constructive suggestion.] The product does come with a battery back up in the event of a power outage. The controls are pretty straight forward and offer the option to open/close at a specified time or based on light levels. One nice thing is, at one point, I did lose power and the controller remembered all my settings. All I had to do was reset the time - which isn't really even needed if you are operating on ambient light to open/close. One thing I like is that before the door opens or closes, the LED lights come on. Green for opening and Red for closing. I would like it if you could control the length of time that the lights come on. I think it would be useful (mostly for closing) to have the Red lights come on longer before closing. Chickens are very smart and learn quickly. This would allow to train the chickens when to go inside. That said, chickens know to go in when it gets dark so it really isn't a problem. The recommended light setting for closing the door has never resulted in the door closing before all the chickens were in the coop. The product also has a sensor to open the door if there is a chicken within the opening. Again, the sensor is adjustable and easy to set up. The product is well constructed and comes with adequate cord lengths. I have been operating the door throughout the harsh winters here in the Pocono's and I have had no problems. There is virtually no maintenance other than to keep the door opening clear of any debris and occasionally wiping the sensor lens. This is a solid product backed by a US-based manufacturer that is intent on providing good customer service. I would tell anyone not to waste their time on less expensive products. This product is reasonably priced and, if I had a problem, I am confident that the company would be there to help resolve it.

This is a great chicken coop door, very secure and sturdy. Easy to install and program. Our coop is in a shady area, so a plug in option was what we needed, with a battery backup for emergencies (like power outage). But what is best about this product is the awesome customer service this company provides if needed. I got quick email response from their technician, simple troubleshooting instructions and ultimately - immediate part replacement. We will definitely come back to Farmlite for our future equipment needs.

*Edited after winter usage* This is still the best auto door I've used and is *mostly* hassle free with a solar hookup. HOWEVER, I live in an area that has almost daily freeze/thaw cycles throughout the winter. We get pretty warm during the day and then freeze overnight. I've noticed that on the days where we get rain then it freezes overnight, I have a stuck chicken door the next morning. The first time it happened I didn't notice until the afternoon and my poor chickens were stuck in the coop most of the day. But since I know to look, on those days where we've had an overnight freeze after rain or snow, I have to wait until the sun comes up enough to warm up the chicken door and then go manually open it. I'm not sure what would fix this issue other having it mounted on the inside of the coop, but that's not an option for me. I will continue to use this door but just know that the sticking could be a serious issue for people on freezing areas where the door is externally mounted. Honestly I'm sure this is an issue for a lot of the auto doors but I think it's good to know in advance so you can be sure to keep an eye on your coop door in the winter. Original review: I was looking to finally replace my previous auto coop door which had a string and reel system on AAA batteries (absolutely awful - avoid those style doors at all costs). And having been burned by spending big bucks on a door that was nothing but trouble for 3 years, I was feeling really skeptical about the proliferation of auto coop doors on Amazon in the past few years. A lot of them look like cheap junk, to be honest. There are a lot of other doors in the style of the Farmlite, but I noted other reviewers said this company is very responsive to issues, and we saw that several others had their door set up on solar. So I took a chance and was happily surprised to find that it was very easy to install (even though I am not handy really). The user interface is a bit wonky and it wasn't super intuitive to understand how to program it, but the directions were clear enough that I got there eventually. I would strongly recommend hanging on to the booklet so if you need to reprogram in future, you'll remember what all the codes mean. I have been keeping it on an open/close cycle using clock time, instead of using the light sensor. I may change it over to the light sensor soon since days are getting shorter now. The game changer was having this hooked to solar. It was easy this was to hook up to a small panel and car battery system. My partner, the engineer, put it together, but the instructions were good and I feel I may have been able to do it myself given enough time. Having this on solar means we don't have to change batteries all the time, and that is something worth celebrating as we were never able to get our previous door hooked up to solar, which was such a pain to disassemble and reprogram every few months. The chickens were already used to an auto door, so swapping this one in for the other was no problem for my small flock. 2 months in, I am satisfied that this door was worth the investment, but will update this review in future if it doesn't hold up to our winter, or there are issues with using the light sensor for open and close times.
