Compared to some of the others that cost at least $20, this door has a few minor issues: - The locks slide too easily and I'm probably going to have to stick them down with something so they don't accidentally interfere with the door. I don't need to lock this where it is, so am not too worried about it, but I'd say the locks are probably the main problem with this. - Speaking of locks, the air blocking bristles on the edge of the door get caught up on the latches when unlocked. This can prevent the door from completely closing. I solved this by using a razor blade to shave these off around the latches. - Rather than both sides of the door screwing together with each other, this door relies on both sides of the frame being able to screw directly to wood. Sometimes this isn't possible due to the material (which may not be wood), and sometimes it isn't desirable if the wood is somewhat warped and tightening down the frames warps them slightly. Overall this door is OK, but has more issues with it than more mature (and expensive) products. I wouldn't recommend it for any serious location like an outdoor entrance directly into the central heated/cooled area of a house. ... show more

We converted a large deck box into an outdoor cat house. We cut out holes on each side and used these cat flap door inserts. they are absolutely wonderful, my cats love them, and use them with ease.

The cats like it, so that's what matters most. But it's not great for extreme conditions. The material appears to hold up, but there are gaps in the construction. Where I joined the pieces together, I filled that space with caulk, and it sealed nicely. But as you can see in the pic, there's a gap on the right where the door meets the jam where you can see light between the jam and the weatherstripping. But the worst part is at the top. There is no weatherstripping up there, and there's a bigger gap between the top of the flap and jam. I had a significant breeze blowing through. And when it's -5 out, you tend to notice that! I took some pipe insulation, cut it in half, and taped a piece to the outside and another to the inside. Obviously the cold air can still flow through, but it's no longer a breeze. Because of the freedom needed on the sides, I can't do this same trick to cover that gap (luckily it's smaller). Also, straight out of the box, I had difficulty opening the door in one direction. I had to slightly trim down the weatherstripping where it met the lock. That fixed the opening issue (without compromising the seal at that spot). If you need something hermetically sealed, obviously you'll go with a different option. I was just expecting something with a better seal. ... show more
