  • It takes some patience and practice, great beginner's pan
Size: 8 Inch
It takes some patience and practice, but I'm learning and getting better with this pan. My first attempt at cooking eggs and sausage resulted in burned sausages and stuck on egg, despite my liberal use of bacon fat. I assume I didn't preheat the pan enough, but then I went to try again and preheated the pan to the point it began burning my bacon fat! Good thing about this pan? It's very forgiving. All the burned on bits washed out with just hot water and a nylon scrub brush. The seasoning didn't chip or scrub off. So I try again. I preheat the pan, lower this time. I flick a little water to test the heat, the droplets evaporating immediately. I add the bacon grease and wait for the faintest hint of smoke. I drop in my egg. I wait for it to brown and... it releases! I flip it, wait a moment and pull it out of the pan and it doesn't stick! Success! Again, the pan comes clean with just hot water and a light scrub. The size of the pan is perfect for borrowing my sauce pan lids when I want less splatter. I was worried that the texture of the pan was going to grip the food, but I guess the flatness of the surface isn't a factor with cast iron. The base of the pan is very flat and makes perfect contact with my stove top's heating coils. For $18, this is a great value as a beginner's cast iron pan. ... show more

  • Well-Made Cast Iron Skillet with Handy Pour Spouts
Size: 8 Inch
This is a sturdy, heavy little cast iron skillet that arrived pre-seasoned and ready to use. The cooking surface has the rough texture that's typical of cast iron but I was pleasantly surprised by how easily it cleaned up. I appreciate the 8" size when cooking for just two. Before using it, I followed the included instructions by rinsing the pan, drying it thoroughly, and heating it briefly on the stove on low. I added a little margarine and cooked two eggs over medium-low heat. (The eggs look a little messy in my photos because I flipped them over.) They cooked evenly, cleanup was easier than I expected and tasted great! After cooking, I let the skillet cool slightly, rinsed it with hot water and gently rubbed away the small bits of egg with a sponge. Once it was dry, I placed it back on the stove, heated it to be sure it was dry and applied a very light coat of vegetable oil and heated it briefly to help maintain the seasoning. Since I'm used to washing cookware with dish soap, I have to remind myself to follow the care instructions for cast iron instead. The handle becomes hot during cooking so I used a potholder when moving the skillet. I found this to be a well-made little cast iron skillet. It also has convenient pour spouts on both sides and includes simple care instructions, making it easy to get started if you're new to cooking with cast iron. ... show more

  • First time buying a pre-seasoned cast iron skillet
Size: 8 Inch
I’ve cooked with cast iron before, but this was actually my first time buying one that came pre-seasoned. I honestly had a moment of, “Wait… pre-seasoned? What exactly does that mean?” After reading up on it, I realized it simply means the skillet already has that protective seasoning layer applied, so you can get started without doing that initial step yourself. The skillet itself is exactly what I was hoping for. It’s sturdy, has a nice weight to it (as a cast iron pan should), and feels like it’ll last for many years with proper care. The finish looks even, the pour spouts are a nice touch, and it heats evenly while holding heat really well. I also appreciate how versatile it is. It works on the stovetop, in the oven, on the grill, or even over a campfire. The 8-inch size is perfect for smaller meals, side dishes, cornbread, or desserts without having to pull out a much larger pan. As far as cleaning, I had no issues. I’d also say it’s priced appropriately. I’m really happy with it. The pre-seasoning was a pleasant bonus once I understood what it meant, and the quality of the skillet itself has definitely lived up to my expectations. ... show more

  • Decent pan, as described, but not seasoned enough out of the box.
Size: 8 Inch
First, the item was as described. It was an 8 inch pan, which is a decent size for single or dual portion meals. The pan itself was pretty hefty, as you'd expect for Cast Iron. I would agree with the 'heavy duty' description based on my first day or two of usage. The interior of the pan was flat and even, but rough and dimpled. It says that it comes preseasoned, but there is nowhere near enough seasoning on it to cook anything right out of the box. If quality and material of the pan is what went into the 'professional, restaurant quality', then I agree with that. However, you may need to season this pan yourself before you're ready to start cooking flavorful, restaurant quality meals with it. This item will likely rust in the dishwasher, as stated in the description. When following the care instructions, I found the pan did not develop and immediate issues, signs of wear, or oxidation. So overall a good sign. I would say generally it's an okay pan for the value, however, it seems to be a little more than others of the same size and quality. If you're willing to spend a little more for a higher-quality pan, you may want to consider other options - but overall nothing is really wrong with it. ... show more

  • A total steal that passes the wrist-break test!
Size: 8+10+12 Inch
I do cast iron—a lot. You might even say I'm slightly obsessed, whether it be pans or Dutch ovens, so I know my way around them. This set is a total steal at $25, I can tell you that for sure. The sizes are great and ready to handle anything you throw at it... or in it, preferably. It is non-stick right out of the box. I’d say these are a medium weight for the range of cast irons I’ve experienced over the years. Personally, I really like that. It has enough weight to cook and hold heat well, but not so much that it's going to break my wrist when I try to clean it or pour out of it. Also, a quick tip for fellow bakers: that 8" pan is the absolute perfect size for steaming in sourdough baking, just sayin'. :-) ... show more

  • Terrible! Don't buy it!
Size: 8 Inch
Terrible. Tested it out with frying an egg and the bulk of it stuck to the pan. Tried washing it when it cooled down, per the instrictions, and after much vigourous scrubbing with a soft brush there was still pieces stuck to it. Ready to return it or throw the pack in the garbage after just one use. Do not buy! ... show more
