  • Nice Fire Pit
I'll start by saying that this thing isn't huge. We use ours on our deck. You can only fit about 3 to 4 split logs in the thing at one time, and the logs sometimes require a shorter length. Once you get tge hang of what it'll fit, it burns and drafts really nicely. I usually have flames coming out the top. It'll warm those sitting around it, particularly so for those seated in front of it. I'd estimate that beyond 6 feet, you're not going to feel direct heat. It's small and very cute, and meant for a small area or for you and your partner to cozy up in front of. One nice thing is being cast iron you do experience a little more radiant heat than other choices. As far as the cast iron goes. It's sturdy. We keep ours outside year round. It's partially exposed. Not much direct weather on it, but if the winds blowing it has gotten wet and stayed damp plenty of times. It will get some typically cast iron surface rust. It has not been corrosive or weakened the unit or its legs. If it's for decoration and not much use, you could constantly sand it and paint it, but mine burns off just fine and exactly the way nature designed cast iron to behave. I would recommend this product. ... show more

  • but if you are a fan of stoves and fireplaces like I am
Too expensive for the size and quality, but if you are a fan of stoves and fireplaces like I am,you might want to own it anyway. No precision cast by any means, but the pieces fit together well enough. For assembly, I replaced the 6x40mm screws by stainless ones, so it can be taken apart still years down the road. It works as recommended, still I wanted to try out an improvement. I left out the grates and also the 5" bottom plate. I replaced the bottom plate with a 6 1/2" cast iron strainer, so the fire can draw air from below. This way, it burns hotter, almost doubles the volume of the burning chamber,, and less smoke if the wood is a little damp. This setup will require a little tray or some plate to catch the embers and little ash coming out of the bottom. Overall, pretty happy with it, and with a little extra expense for the strainer, 2 options how to use it. After it is burned in, you may want to add another coat of high heat paint for additional rust protection. It will hopefully outlast my old clay chimenea that fell apart after only 2 seasons.Shipment was super quick and well protected. ... show more

  • My favorite thing in my backyard.
I like to have a nice fire going when we are outside at night. This small chimenea is the perfect size. I was very happy with the build quality. It is all iron and setup only takes about 10 minutes. I gave mine a few coats of high heat black spray paint. This has always helped my previous chimeneas last a long time. Like I said, the size is perfect for me. It stands about 2 feet tall and weights 46 lbs when fully assembled. I like to get a really hot fire going and maintain it until we are ready to go in. If you want it to die out, all you do is stop feeding it about 15-20 minutes prior to going inside. It will almost completely burn out within that time. There is no screen door but I have rarely had anything pop out. Keep in-mind that you have to have your wood sized correctly, about 6-8 inches long at most. The little chimenea put out some impressive heat. It really does heat up a good 8 feet around it. ... show more

  • It works
It is a nice product as stated in the other posts. People say it is small, but what is significant about that is that you need the right kind of fuel. Logs need to be no more than about 7-8" and no bigger than 2-3" around to burn effectively. You can fill it up with small twigs and put them down the stack and they will burn hot but will last for 5 minutes. The fire burns in a controlled hot enough manner that there isn't any smoke blowing around, which is a big advantage to a fire pit. Just be aware that it is not that large and a typical piece of firewood isn't going to fit. ... show more

  • Super sturdy little heater!
We use this to burn peat outside during the cold months (obviously). The size is just right for the small bricks of peat. It's heavy duty and has been outside during several heavy rains over about 3 months so far. Looking great, no rust or corrosion.

  • Perfect for our application - cool evenings on a sea-side patio
Very nice little wood fired heater. Works well if you don't use the grates they include. Fits our space perfectly and heats a space for 2 - 4 folks sitting around on cool evenings. Castings are not exactly high precision or I would have given it 5 stars. Also, with warning from other reviewers about rusting, we sprayed it with hi-temp "rustolium-type" paint before use - and bought a cover. Both worth the time and $$. ... show more
