This is a review of Epson LS500 UST projector. The picture quality is bar none the best -bright, sharp, focused with lots of contrast even without a matching screen. I'm waiting on a delayed shipment of an ALR screen and can't wait to see the improvement. A few annoying things - the user interface is the absolute pits. Using two remote controls is just awkward. The setting page looks like it was designed in 1980s with Apple IIe (archaic). Connection options for the sound and accessories are also lacking. No bluetooth?? No optical audio? I was able to get the HDMI ARC to work with a Yamaha soundbar. I won't be able to use a Bose that has an optical connection and Bluetooth. Compared to the Bomaker 4K UST, Epson wins out in image quality. Bomaker wins out in everything else including user interface, Bluetooth, built-in speakers, fan noise, design, and etc. Despite some annoying things and non-working ethernet, the picture quality is so darn impressive.     • Overpriced Blurry Focus

I tried two of these projectors to make sure. They both had inconsistent focus issues, even after I spent half a day fiddling with settings and panel color calibration. In a pinch, the projector will work for casual gaming and movies but you are seriously over paying for what you get. The optoma p2 had a far better image, speakers, and setup while being way cheaper. It's a shame... this projector has the best brightness and input lag you can buy on the ultra short throw market today. Epson did get those right, along with the myriad of settings available. But for the love of god, fix the focus. You might have to go the optoma route and have a motorized focus instead of a hand focus. It's actually easier to focus that way anyway since you can do it right on the remote. Anyway, the focus issues are just too big of a deal to justify it's price. especially if you also want to use it for data projection use cases or gaming. ... show more

We purchased this projector for use in our growing church. We love its many features, including that it is ultra short throw. The Ultra-short-throw feature allows one to position the projector just inches in front of the screen and get a full-sized image (in our case, a 120" screen). The only "negative" is that it cannot be mounted on the ceiling. Hence, we returned it and acquired the LS800 instead - because it can be mounted on the ceiling. ... show more

Upgraded home theater with this then realized it has no spdif out It has some hdmi arc which my old amp doesn’t support Well I upgraded to new denon amp that has it While I got it connected- the audio levels out of the epson are so low that you can’t go very loud even fully cranked on amp On the fence about keeping it. Samsung has a competing projector that’s pretty good that has it all ... show more

Before I settled with this LS500, I tested VAVA but it disappointed me very badly. I have a low ceiling basement and I needed a UST Projector to satisfy my constraints. I saw this LS500 in Best Buy magnolia and impressed with the performance. I bought it during prime day sale and I am overwhelmingly enjoying this Projector. It’s picture quality almost matches with the OLED tv. Great hardware. I didn’t use google dongle, I just connected my Apple TV 4K box and speakers. That’s all.
