This grill is excellent, especially considering its price. It DOES NOT smoke up my house because I follow directions and add enough water to cover the drip pan. This smokeless grill is brainlessly easy to use (IF ONE FOLLOWS THE DIRECTIONS), the temperature control is accurate, the grill gets hot enough to sear and is extremely easy to clean. What more could one ask of a tabletop grill? I just have to vent about Amazon reviews, especially negative ones posted by buyers who don't follow instructions (the smokeless grill "smoked up my house"), have no clue about the attributes or proper care of the product they purchased (e.g. complaints that a lambskin parka is "thin" and tears easily) or purchasers providing useless, return-generating advice who are obviously not forthcoming about their actual, rather than hortatory, weights. ... show more

I most wanted this to make the American Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and it's almost PERFECT! The 2 drawbacks are No. 1. There's no on and off switch, you turn it off by unplugging it. I'm buying a lock-off remote to use on it. No. 2. the outside of it gets almost as hot as the grill surfaces. Do you see the funny brand on my right index finger? I just got that, using this the first time. I touched it! I was going to scoot it further back on the counter top, bad mistake. I had read other reviews saying it was tiny. Well it's a perfect size for two, common, grilled cheeses. Regular sandwich bread fits great, so does the thick Texas Toast bread. It is, however, too short for a footlong sandwich. I first made two American Grilled cheese sandwiches, and they were almost perfect. Very thick, I usually put onions, Miracle Whip, and two slices of American cheese on my grilled cheeses, and they came out perfect. The onions hot and moist, tasting so fresh you'd think they were homegrown, the cheese thick and gooey. This works perfect for my main use for it. So right now, day one, first use I am thrilled. I am so happy I made this purchase. I'm looking forward to many more awesome grilled cheese sandwiches. I'll also do hot dogs, pork chops, hamburger, pizza bites, peppers, and even turn overs and glazed jelly rolls on it. Definitely worth it. Of course for what the manufacturer has in it, it should cost about 35% less, but everything's inflated now that our money sucks! As a two sandwich grill, this is excellent. ... show more

Tried it for the first time last night to grill some sausages. Don't put too much water in the drip pan, or you'll have to slurp it out with a turkey baster - not much cooks off. The times in the little cookbook are a bit optimistic - I think it runs a little cool. It heats up and cools down quickly, and the base stays cool to the touch. Glad I bought this! After doing a lot of shopping around for indoor grills, I opted for this one to use in my small apartment. My kitchen is not air-conditioned, and there is no way to install a window unit, so, in the summertime, my kitchen heats to a sweltering prison of misery after the stove have been lit for 30 seconds. I also have no balcony, patio, fire escape or permission from my management company to grill outside my apartment! Consequently, I became an expert of no-cook summer meals, but I really wanted to be able to grill. I am a vegetarian, so I have only used this to cook vegetables and tofu, and they char up beautifully. I took another reviewer's advice and started covering certain items with a roasting pan to help trap the heat and cook things faster (to make it function more like a regular outdoor grill). What a great idea! The grill does still throw off a fair bit of heat, so I actually use this in my air-conditioned living room and just move the grill tray off the base and bring it to the kitchen as needed. (The handles do not get hot, so you just have to unplug the electrical element and life it off the base.) I have nothing bad to say about this grill. It cleans sure easily, has stayed non-stick through a summer of heavy use, and it very easy to use. It saved me from a summer of gazpacho and salads on repeat all season long. ... show more

    • Good for wraps, but struggling with closing the lid horizontally on sandwiches.

Works great for grilling wraps. Good heat, nice grill marks, and it is small enough to fit in the drawer under my oven. Plates are not removable but so far no cleaning issue. My problem so far is that I'm struggling with making sandwiches. When I close the lid it doesn't come down horizontally, it still closes at an angle. When I try to make cubano, etc. it just shoves the top of the sandwich out the front instead of squishing them from above. It gets worse as the cheese melts and lubes-up the top. I always have to wrap tightly in foil to hold it together. It's possible this might improve as the hinges loosen up on the floating lid so it can flop down more easily, but not so far. ... show more
