  • Working Great, Couple Small Annoyances In the App

The EVSE was nicely packaged, and installed easy. Currently it is charging my Mach E just fine. Only a couple minor issues within the app. First, it displays charging speed in kWh, charging speed is measured in kW not kWh. Second, the preferred charge time function was not working for me. I find the Mach E preferred charge time in the Ford Mypass app to make more sense, so I have been using the EVSE in Auto Charge mode and letting the Ford Mypass control the schedule. ... show more

  • WiFi setup flaky. Holster poorly designed. Good customer service.

I picked this unit mainly because it's from EA and my new vehicle included a 2 year complimentary free charging at EA stations. Installing the main unit was easy. Bracket was easy with two screws and the included paper template was nice. The holster was a nightmare. It's two pieces of plastic secured by a very short Torx screw. You screw in the larger plastic component to the wall. The smaller plastic piece is screwed to the larger one. You have to screw the small Torx screw at a 20 angle while pushing the small plastic piece in. The screw hole is at the bottom of the plastic cup. NEMA 14-50 plug ground is oriented down. Seems like most chargers including Tesla have their ground up. The cable for the NEMA outlet is very thick and short. WiFi setup took multiple attempts. Takes a minute for the unit to try to join your home network. I had multiple connection error attempts. Not sure why the unit finally connected on the 4th attempt. I didn't do anything different on the three first attempts. The unit I purchased was defective and would only charge at 10 amps. EA sent me a letter letting me know and I was able to exchange it for a fully functioning unit. I am impressed with EA's 24/7 customer service. ... show more

It works very well once you get it connected to the internet. Getting to this point is a journey. It works without a web connection but all of the features it has with an internet connection are useful. I know some reviewers would like it to have more tools like price out what you spent on electricity. But, you do get total power per charge. Where I live, l know the price per KWhr so I can calculate the cost easily. My problem accessing the internet began with using my galaxy S 21. The charger could not find my wifi network, nor did it see any of the networks around the neighborhood. Nothing! Next I tried to manually connect my wifi, BUthe process froze. I located a procedure on a forum to reset the charger. First unplug the charger and then your modem. Plug the charger back in and then go to the electrify america app, press home and then restart the connection procedure. Quickly plug in your wifi. Hit the three dots at the top of the screen it will open a page which has a factory reset option. Once I learned to factory reset, I then tried all three of my routers and the process froze each time. I called the help line and they were puzzled because all of my operating systems were current versions. They could not figure it out. It got bumped up to the next level and was told I would get a call in a few days. The one tidbit I did learn is that you can turn off the phone wifi and toggle it back on which is an easier way to get to the factory reset. All of what I described occurred just this morning. On a lark I grabbed my wife's iPhone and I had no problem finding my home wifi. It connected right away. Now I can see the unit and all of its web features on the iPhone, my android and believe it or not my iPad. So, my conclusion is that there is a software glitch caused by my up to date android operating system. On forums I read that both androids and iPhones have had the freeze problems like I experienced. They were probably due to the version of operating system that the devices were running at the time. The one thing that struck me is that electrify america's software has not been fully tested with all version of operating systems customers are using. We purchased this EA charger for our new VW. After a call to support the helpful lady got its Wi-Fi running. Within a month it would no longer switch between immediate and scheduled charging. Other functions (such as charging history) never worked. Multiple calls to support were unproductive. Escalation of the problem was impossible, as “nobody is available now.” When someone from the next level of support called a week later, he promised that the issue would be resolved with the next app update. The app update provided no relief. A kind email from Kyle at EA support offered a refund. I immediately accepted and returned the charger. It’s been a month since Fed Ex took the package and I’ve seen no refund. A call to support confirmed that they have received the box, but they couldn’t offer any information about the refund processing. To summarize. Difficult to install. Key functions missing or inoperable. Inadequate support. Slow response. We purchased a new charger immediately on returning the EA box and I am exceedingly happy with my new charger, a different brand, easy to install, fully functional, with more functions than the EA. I cannot comment on their support because I have not had to use it. Based on my experience I am telling anyone who will listen to NOT purchase an Electrify America EV charger. ... show more

  • Not ready for prime time

I must say I have never had a more dedicated customer service experience with a company . Most of the issues we were having are related to the app and how it does not confirm settings . Although the bugs have not been addressed yet , we were able to find work arounds and the charger works flawlessly . Original: im not sure I understand how this is shipping with all the issues they have with the app. You can't schedule off peak charging times. it just doesn't accept and apply the settings. Other things that are broken, will never tell you how much power it has consumed, you cannot initiate a charge or complete one via the app. It looks we'll built but is obviously in beta software stages. It needs work. I wanted to return it but realized my return window closed 2 days ago. ... show more
