  • Amazing leaf shredder - I am not kidding.
Color: Green
Ok there was a mix up on this order. I talked with Amazon and got this leaf shredder. I have used it twice and it is fantastic. I have a ton of oak leaves and pine needles and used to rake them onto a tarp and drag them into the woods. I kept the shredder for quite awhile before using it. I am amazed at how good this thing works. It weighs almost nothing and uses two little trimmer cords to chop the leaves which at first looking at it didn't impress me. However, this shredder will cut up leaves with ease. What is most amazing is that it will also SHRED PINE needles. It says it has a 17 - 1 reduction ratio. I didn't measure it but am sure it is at least that good. I would make 2 modifications to it and it would be perfect. One is the air filter gets clogged easily because all the little leaf pieces float out and cover the air filter. Not a big problem - just tap it occasionally with the power off and the blockage is removed. Number two, which isn't a problem unless you are shredding cubic yards of leaves/needles like I do, is the catcher bag get full and you take it off to dump it but the elastic top is small and you have to spend too much time dumping the shredded leaves. I made my own bag from a piece of tarp that has no bottom that contains the leaves to the area under the shredder. Since I am using the shredded leaves for mulch and compost it works out great - I just shovel them into a cart and take them where needed. If you are not doing a mountain of leaves the original bag works great. By the way I have a gas chipper/shredder ($800.00) that does a good job on limbs but not so good for leave - especially pine needles and is a lot of work to keep running. This little gadget is really amazing. If it keeps working like it does now - I will say this is one of the best buys I have made in a long time. ... show more

  • Got lots of leaves? Buy it!
Color: Green
I'm giving this Deko Pro leaf shredder a solid 4.5 stars for its power and ease of use. It readily grinds/shreds dry leaves and is a great price for how well it works! Rather than a blade, it uses trimmer string (12.98" long and 0.098" diameter) - it appears there are multiple options for 13" line for other machines that will work in this one, though you do get 20 with this unit. I mulched leaves for 5 hours this weekend and didn't use even one, though I am sure it is shorter than it was when I started. The .5 star it didn't earn is for the vague instructions and for the cheap and flimsy bag that came with it. When the machine arrived, I put it together quickly (for an old lady), then discovered it tipped backward during use without weighing the front part down. After about 30 minutes of fighting with it, I realized I'd put the base together backward, although it would have been impossible to know if only reading the instructions. As to the crappy bag, I wound up cutting the bottom out and using it as a funnel to grind the leaves into an 18 gallon Rubbermaid storage container (it fits under the mulcher) then transferring it to a leaf bag or garden cart for use on my raised beds. IF the manufacturer was open to a suggestion, I would first make the machine taller so a paper leaf bag could fit under it (this really is a no-brainer) and/or instead of a cheap bag, make a rigid funnel that fits under the machine to direct the mulched debris into a different container. For the money, I'd buy this all over again though. I have a 70' tall sycamore tree, 2 huge maples and my neighbor has 2 giant oaks. I clean up leaves on my 1/4 acre lawn ALL AUTUMN and into the winter. This thing is my new, seasonal best friend! ... show more

  • Meets Expectations
Color: Green
Construction quality and design are acceptable and should last many Fall seasons. The supplied reusable catch-bag works very well. When full (not over-stuffed) of ground up Sycamore and Sweet Gum leaves it filled a standard size paper recycle bag about 2/3 full. The big, plastic paws look silly but do work. Large piles can also be raked into a trash can that can poured into the top of the hopper. Small twigs (1/8" or several mm) are not a problem. Dust was not much of an issue since most of it was exhausted through the vents on the catch-bag below the mulcher. Keep the intake filter up wind to minimize having to clean out the dust. You don't want this blocked too much since it's how the motor keeps cool. The wheels and frame allowed the mulcher to be moved from pile to pile with little effort. It would be nice if a standard size trashcan would fit nicely under the mulcher. That's not an issue as long as a bag like the one provided is available when it wears out. The knob to change the grind setting was resistant to change but I eventually made the setting change. It wasn't a big issue since it did work and I don't plan to change it from medium. All comments are based on my first use only so time will tell if the purchase was of high value. I wore safety glasses, leather gloves and hearing protection and recommend using PPE. ... show more

  • What a great power tool!
Color: Light Green
I drive a Honda Ridgeline. I had a pile of leaves as long as my truck, that was about the shape of a 4 feet high pyramid with an 8 foot base. It was the standard yearly, first falling, sload of leaves. I have in the past required 20+, 50 gallon plastic bags to move these. I have a high powered blower, so getting the leaves into a big pile is easy, but filling bags by hand would take multiple hours. I opened the mulcher box at 3:00pm my time. I had to put it together(put it on the high setting for 50 gallon bags), get a power cord, a rake, a snow shovel (much easier to load it with a snow shovel than the things that came in the box), some bags, etc... that all took me about 30 minutes. Getting the first bag on the mulcher took a little bit of time to figure out how to effectively attach it, as did the process to replace the strings the first time (cut em with snippers and then pull em out with needle nose pliers). After the initial learning curve it only took a few minutes to replace strings and or the bag, super easy once fully understood. I started mulching at 3:30 and was done processing the entire pile (plus a little more from the drive way) at 5pm, only 1.5 hours! I had to replace the strings at least every bag, almost 2 times per bag. I ended up using 5 bags for this pile. I learned not to fill them too high. The final weight of the mulched leave is something to consider. I used the middle setting for mulch size. This thing is awesome. I wish I would have bought one years ago. I read another site and watch a yt video where someone mentioned to use stronger strings, ones with wires inside. These are available at HD so I will be trying that next. I will need to do a similar quantity of leaf removal one my time at my house. My neighbor most likely will be getting one or borrowing mine as she faces the same quantity of leaves. I am now considering finding a vacuum to pull them directly into this machine as well as considering a stronger cutting system which are widely available for string trimmers. What a great power tool. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Works well. Limited life as they do not sell replacement carbon brushes.
Color: Green
It is a good product. Works better than the Worx leaf shredder due to a thicker weed wacker string. Know that Worx does not sell replacement carbon brushes for their leaf shredder. Deko does not sell replacement brushes for their leaf shredder. Both machines blow air through the unit to cool the motor. This includes the large amount of dust created by shredding leafs. I would pay $100 more for a brushless leaf shredder. Carbon brushes are very cheap. I may have to scrap my Worx shredder because they do not offer replacement brushes. Deko is not offering replacement brushes. I expect the Deko shredder to die within 5 years. Many pounds of crap to the landfill because they will not sell replacement carbon brushes that cost about $1 to make. ... show more

  • Arrived resealed mangled and incomplete
Color: Green
Purchased as a new product. Arrived in a mangled box that had been opened and retaped. Several holes had been taped over (obviously was a return). One upper leg missing. The plastic sleeves had been removed from the other legs (previously unpacked). Now that's really poor quality control. Don't know how it works since I have to return it. Bummer, I was excited about getting rid of all of these leaves! ... show more

  • Makes great mulch!
Color: Green
It does a great job shredding leaves. I have 30 trees that produce 60 bags of leaves. The mulched reduces the amount of bags by more than half. Best of all, I started using the mulched leaves as mulch. It looks great and saves me from buying 60 bags of wood mulch. I mulch them and spread them under the trees. It looks great with a woodsy type of feel. Love it! ... show more

  • Loud, but efficient.
Color: Green
I got this when it was on sale for $109. Probably worth the money, easy to assemble. We have a lot of leaves this year due to the cold rapidly hitting us, they got ahead of me. I usually mow mulch. There's a lot of particulate matter that happens while shredding leaves, I would recommend wearing a mask. I only used one of the plastic strings this season, and there are extras. It would be labor intensive to use this on a regular basis, but it is definitely worth it if you have a huge amount of leaves. It can take a few small twigs, but I wouldn't go much larger than that. I would also recommend using a long handled two-sided rake, to avoid bending over all the time to gather leaves from a pile. And yes, it is loud, maybe a little louder than a leaf blower. ... show more
