A Water Dispenser That Makes Its Own Ice — Perfect for Our Cabin

We use this 5-gallon top-loading water dispenser at our cabin, and so far, we absolutely love it. It's made by ElecTactic, a company I've purchased several different products from, and I've been very impressed with everything I've gotten from them so far. The feature that really sold me on this one is the built-in ice maker. I've never personally had a water dispenser that also makes ice, and I have to say, it's incredibly convenient. It makes the basic bullet-style ice, but for what we use it for, it's perfect. It saves us from making an extra trip to the refrigerator or having to make a separate trip to the store just to buy a bag of ice. I also really like the water shortage reminder. That's actually been useful for me because it serves as a reminder that it's time to get another water jug before we completely run out. For families with young children, there's also a child safety lock, which is an important feature since this dispenser provides hot and cold water. We don't personally need to use the lock, but I can definitely see how valuable it would be for households with little ones. The unit comes with the 5-gallon jug, which is another nice bonus considering the price. At around $257, I think this is a very good value considering you're getting a water dispenser and ice maker combined. My only personal complaint is the white color. I would much prefer this in black or another darker finish because the white looks a little plain to me. But that's strictly a matter of appearance, and it's certainly not enough to take away from how well this unit works. Even the noise level is very quiet which is a plus! So far seems very durable and works great! Overall, this has been a fantastic setup for our cabin. It's convenient, saves us trips for ice, has some great safety and reminder features, and has been well worth the money.

Three Functions in One Appliance

The biggest selling point for me is the convenience. Instead of having a separate water dispenser and ice maker, this combines everything into one appliance. I can get cold water, hot water, or ice without needing another machine taking up space. It also has a nice modern appearance and doesn't feel cheaply made. The touchscreen controls are a nice addition, and features like the hot water safety lock and empty-bottle notification make it easier and safer to use. I also like that the cooling and ice-making functions use a compressor rather than a basic thermoelectric system. It gives the unit a more substantial feel and seems like a better approach for an appliance that's doing more than simply dispensing water. I could see this being useful in several places, especially a kitchen, home office, garage, or basement bar. Having one unit that handles everyday drinking water, hot water for coffee or tea, and ice is a pretty significant convenience. Overall, this feels like a worthwhile upgrade from a traditional water dispenser, particularly if you want to save space and eliminate the need for multiple appliances.

Great water dispenser!

This water dispenser is great for at-home or personal use! It was super easy to set up, the instructions were clear and we had it going within just a few minutes. One thing to note when running the initial cycles to flush the water clean- there are two places where it drains, the hot water drainage in the middle and the cold water drainage at the bottom. We didn’t realize when flushing it out that the water would be draining from the hot water portion so it made a bit of a mess, but otherwise it was easy to do and no hassle. Once this was done the water came out tasting clean and fresh with no aftertaste. The ice maker works more quickly than I expected. It dispenses little bullet-shaped ice cubes; it’s not actually quite freezing temp in the ice compartment so it’s a little wet in there, but any water that melts is recycled back into the dispenser to be used again. One thing I would have appreciated is a place to store the included ice scoop- it’s nice that it comes with one, but with no separate slot or compartment to put it in you have to either find a place to store it yourself or just toss it in with the ice, which defeats the intended purpose of not spreading germs and just reaching in with your hand. Once you have it all set up and give it a few minutes to run its cycles, all three green lights come on letting you know it’s ready to use. The first time we dispensed the hot water it was only at 177 degrees, but after waiting and trying it again it was up to 190- not scalding but great for tea, instant hot chocolate packets or instant coffee, oatmeal. This dispenser is a little expensive ($287.98 at the time of this review) but for what you get, it’s worth it! It may not be enough in a high-traffic area like a busy office, but for at home use with a small family it will work great for us!

Works well!

This is a water dispenser with a built in ice maker. It can do hot water, cold water, and it makes bullet ice cubes, which is super nice. It measures 32.91"D x 11.42"W x 11.81"H and it weighs 28.7 lbs. It can use your standard 5-gallon jugs that get you get at the store or that are delivered to you. We got this to avoid renting one from the water company but it's a high up front cost but will pay for itself in about 25 months depending on how much you paid for it and how much the water company charges you to rent yours, we were paying about $12 a month to rent ours; so as long as it lasts longer than the 25 months (which we don't know yet) then it will be worth it, esp considering the built in ice maker!

Adding Ice to an excellent unit is a nice bonus

The school year started and a member of the family who works at the school was complaining about hot and cold-water accessibility. Especially with short breaks and changes throughout the day. My solution was to get a water dispenser like I saw at our old office. While looking around online, I discovered that a brand which we like – durability has a unit which will dispense hot water, cold water, and even make ice cubes. This was one of the no-brainer decisions, and I must admit that it works as advertised. You do need to follow the instructions and make sure you flush the system, but after the initial step, it is working without an issue. I was told that lots of other school personnel stopped by for a bit of ice. For hot water they use an electric kettle, which this dispenser beats hands down in ease of use (immediately). Cold water (unlike from this dispenser) is available, but again – this dispenser does that and in addition gets real ice cubes. A pleasure to use.

Makes the water taste funny.
