For a good reference, if you are under 40 degrees, expect to be huddled right under the unit. In the 50's this is perfect to be within a 15' radius of the unit. I purchased the stainless steel model, directions were in perfect English and very easy to understand. The protective blue wrap was satisfying to remove off the top cover . The company did an amazing job at packing the unit and it arrived safely to my home with zero damage. Unit works great and I can enjoy my outside deck in cooler temperatures. The heater worked great on our patio though the winter. I was moving it to another location on the patio and the upper pipe broke at the weld base. Inspection showed a defective weld. I contacted East Oak via email, described the issue, and enclosed a couple of pictures. They immediately responded and told me they were sending out replacement parts. I received the box a few days later. I inspected the welds and they seem to be solid. Everything installed quickly and it is back up and running. I would highly recommend East Oak for their prompt response and desire to stand behind their product. ... show more

It was a little tricky To put together. It has a lot of parts. It works well, it’s not all that heavy and is pretty easy to use. It does leak propane slightly but otherwise it’s good.

I have read almost every review requesting customer help. However, I read that right after I made the purchase. What I will say is that I have absolutely no complaints. As a female near 60, I took it upon myself to attempt it myself. I actually completed it in 1 1/2 hr alone. I waited 2 days because of other responsibilities when I started it. I was skeptical that this would be just-another-nameless-manufacturer of relatively inexpensive (i.e. cheap) patio gear, but I was wrong. This heater is nice for the price. It's sturdy enough for the purpose (especially if you get the sand/water tank for extra weight), and it puts out a decent amount of heat over a wide area. The 50K BTU unit is pretty big (I didn't really consider the size of the baffle when purchasing - be warned). The heat is even, and the heat mesh puts off a nice glow as well. It was pretty easy to put together, and the quality of instructions (color, with pictures and diagrams) and components (everything has a spare, not using soft metal, etc.) are excellent. Look, here's the deal - I bought two of these for my patio here in SoCal. Setting it up was a breeze, and when I first tested it out with a 20lb propane tank, everything worked great. Here's the thing though - even with the weighted base I bought separately AND a full propane tank, one of those crazy Santa Ana winds we get in the fall knocked it right over one night. Kind of a scary moment! But here's where it gets good - I reached out to both Amazon and the manufacturer about it, and the manufacturer was awesome. They sent me a new deflector shield completely free. I really appreciated that they understood that even with all the right precautions (weighted base and full tank), these strong winds can be no joke. Quick tip for anyone buying this: if you know it's going to be windy, just move it somewhere sheltered or find a way to secure it better. Some tie-downs or extra weights at the bottom would probably do the trick. Bottom line - the heater works great, and the customer service was top-notch when I needed help. Just be smart about where you put it if you live somewhere that gets strong winds like we do in SoCal! ... show more
