    • There secret to removing that protective film

Once assembled the heater looks great and works well. If you get that far. Unfortunately the four lower panels have a protective film over them (to prevent scratching). Not the usual blue film but some weird, stretchy white film with a black undercoat. On our first attempt the stuff came off in pieces. The guy in an earlier review mentioned two hundred broken bits per side panel. He wasn't kidding. Extraordinarily frustrating and it will have you regretting your purchase. For me, though, the fix was easy. I waited until the next morning--when it was in the mid-50s vs the mid-60s the afternoon before and the film came of "easily." It didn't tear as readily (although much worse than the blue film) and I was able to finish the two panels I had started and do the other two in about twenty minutes. The edges, which seem to need to be done separately, as the film wraps around and won't come off with the rest, can be removed by putting the edge between your first finger and thumb and rubbing it in one direction. Careful of that sharp bottom edge, otherwise easy. A very poor choice of protective film but otherwise this is a winner. As a side note, the glass tube came in shattered at the bottom but an e-mail to customer service fixed that--they responded the next morning and the new tube arrived within three days. ... show more

    • EASY TO ASSEMBLE - HARD TO START - OVERALL LIKE IT

While many reviews said it was hard to assemble, I found it VERY easy. I did watch the videos on Amazon’s website, but overall the instructions were easy to follow if you lay out the pieces. NOTE: the parts list IS CORRECT in number of nuts and bolts BUT the very first assembly instructions says …”FOUR M5x8 bolts (GG) and FOUR M5 nuts (II).” But then the photo shows ONE of each. There is ONLY 1 of each included in the parts bag AND only ONE needed to assemble. The written instructions are wrong in number for these two pieces. The HARD part is getting it to start with a new tank, especially if you try and light it in daytime because you can’t really see the pilot light work and a NEW tank seems to take forever to bleed into the line. Once it lit, it burned nicely and threw some heat. I don’t know if the actual spread of heat will be what it claims as about 3 ft around. That will be determined with use and on colder day than when I lit it. I did notice that on the first lighting it literally burns the emitter to a darker color. The flame seemed appropriate. I didn’t realize the heater won’t work as well when temps fall below 40 degrees, so that is not what I was expecting when I want to use this on chilly camping days, but this will be determined better on further use. Overall, I like it and hope it takes the chill off tabletop sitting by the campsite. I really like the magnetic cover plate to open and put in a propane tank. That stops you from having to turn over the heater and put it in from the bottom, which other models I looked at did. Hopefully it meets my camping needs. Watch the top reflector. It definitely gets hot, but the pole and base seem to stay cool to touch. ... show more

    • Good product, but packaging is very difficult to remove

Overall the assembly was fine and the product is very good considering the price. My main complaint is the protective film used on the hood as well as the tank cover. Normally this would not be something I would complain about, but I literally spent 45 minutes just getting the film off of the 8 parts that had it, which was more time than it took to assemble it. I'd recommend the manufacturer use bags for each piece, or some other less aggravating approach than the film. Update December 2022 - I have upped my rating from 3 to 4 stars because: 1. After using it for a few weeks, it works great for us. 2. They contacted me to tell me they are implementing a new packaging that does not use the protective film that made the experience so frustrating. Hopefully this will be implemented before anyone else has to deal with it. ... show more

Relatively easy to put together and move to desired location. Recommend adding a separate heat deflector to direct the powerful heat towards any desired location. Also recommend adding a separate ballast to put at bottom of the device to prevent worry about gusty winds. On low setting, used 30 minutes a session, 5 days a week, it consumes a tank of propane about every 3 weeks. Mine is used near my hot tub on chilly days and delivers a bit of comfort to dry off and dash back inside the house. The heat is optimal on 50 degree evenings with no wind. We got the blue but it looks grayish in actual. It looks nice and puts out good heat. However, one one very windy day, it tipped down and the reflector ring got bent. It was placed on the side of the house, against the wall with full tank of propane. So, I suggest, lay it down during windy days or take it inside the garage.
