    • Essential patio gear for extending the outdoor season

I was super excited when this showed up as a Vine item to review. I live in a cold climate, and that means our outdoor porch/patio season is all too short. I've been interested in having a heater like this for quite a while, and I'm happy to say that this lives up to my expectations. This is a fairly heavy item, but it was packaged extremely well to avoid any shipping damage. Still, a minor complaint about the packaging: there was So. Much. Plastic. And some of the styrofoam sheets shed a LOT of little particles all over my driveway. I wish manufacturers would put a little more effort into more environmentally friendly packaging materials like cardboard inserts instead of styrofoam. Assembly was not difficult at all. There may have been a couple steps along the way that weren't perfectly clear at first glance, but that was easily overcome by applying a little common sense. It probably took me around a half an hour to assemble it. I'll echo what another reviewer said: this thing is somewhat top heavy, so you'll probably want to secure the base, either with a propane tank or some other kind of weight. I keep my propane tank outside of the base because I move it back and forth between this heater and my grill. But a couple bricks in the base seem to be adequate to make it more secure. I've had a chance to use this several times in the late fall and early winter. 50k BTU is a pretty good output, and it will definitely provide plenty of heat in the vicinity of the heater. Depending on your patio arrangement, it's very possible that you'll want it off to one side or the other, rather than in the center of the seating area. I strongly recommend a deflector shield in this case, as it allows corner placement without losing so much unused heat to the environment. Mine's been out in the elements for several months, and the stainless finish still looks as new. That bodes well for the long term, so I look forward to using this for many years. 4.5/5 stars. It's a well-designed and useful product that can potentially add months of use each year to your outdoor spaces (depending on your climate). I really like this heater, and I wish I had picked one up years earlier. I highly recommend it if you live in a colder climate and want to get more use out of your outdoor spaces in the late fall and early spring. ... show more

Walking along city streets, I always envied restaurants and such that had these patio heaters warming their outdoor seating spaces. I enjoy the experience of sitting outside on cooler evenings next to a heat source. Up until now, that has only existed in the form of a fire pit, as I honestly had no idea that these patio heaters were even remotely affordable! (Note: although I received mine free as a Vine member in exchange for an honest review, I consider the retail price as part of my review when applicable.) The result: Sitting on our back patio this past fall and, even most recently, during this arctic cold blast (we live in Wisconsin), has been a wonderful and refreshing treat - to be outdoors through all seasons! I don't want to sound over the top by stating this, but it has in a literal sense, been life-changing... in so far as we rarely spent winter nights outside before and now it is something that our family does regularly!! More bonding time, more outdoor time, more rest, relaxation and fresh air! The product shipped well and securely, arriving in perfect condition and with all assembly materials. Actual assembly took about 20 minutes and was very easy and intuitive; the instructions provided were easy to follow step by step. This patio heater has the comparable heat output of any restaurant that I've experienced outdoor seating at. First, in it of itself, this is a powerful heater and provides ample heat for any standard size home and patio - even a 'large-sized' patio. Second, as with any similar devices, where you place the heater in correspondence with your surroundings (wall(s), wind blockage, etc.) will impact the warmth experience. Even placed out in the elements with nothing to help trap the heat, you will feel the heat! Add in any feature that is going to help buffer the wind or create any type of tunnel effect, and you're now basking in a heat bath! ... show more

There is quite a bit to like about this burner. First, packing was very good with all the parts in perfect shape, no bends or loose pieces. The instructions are pictures and this makes it very easy to follow. everything with minimum words but great exact pictures, step by step. I would say anyone can assemble it without any help, just need a Phillips screwdriver and an adjustable wrench. It does comes with 2 tools but you will still need those. It was very easy to put together and getting it to work. Another plus was how nice all the screws were packed with some spares. A+ for that. The unit works as advertised putting a good amount of heat even on the lowest setting. Wheels help to move it around and installing and replacing the propane cylinder is an easy task. You might want to keep a tank in it, it is top heavy without it and might tip off. Other than that very happy with this unit. ... show more
