  • One Year with MC440
Style: MC440 40cc Pattern Name: Mini Cultivator
I have now owned my Earthquake MC440 tiller for one year and have only good things to say about it. I've owned a number of small cultivators that were all 2 stroke and without a doubt the torque of this machine is far superior. I have a very small area for plants but it's too large for an old guy to use a shovel and fork so I use this to prepare all my garden areas. It has worked very well and performed better than I expected. I read a number of reviews prior to my purchase and a common theme seemed to be the tiller was hard to start especially when it had been stored for a while. When not in use I always keep it laying down as suggested in the owner's manual and it has always started with 2-4 pulls on the rope. Last fall when I put it away for the winter I drained the fuel tank and ran the carburetor dry. This spring I pulled it out and refilled the tank and gas immediate began leaking at a pretty good rate. It seems the flange that the fuel lines run through had shrunk and the fuel lines became brittle so if the gas level was near the level of the flange gas would leak out. Even with this issue the engine started with 3 pulls. I called customer service and explained the situation and they sent me a new fuel line assembly at no charge. I put it back together tonight, filled the tank and started it up with 3 pulls. I'm very impressed with how well everything has worked, so I feel a five star rating is justified. ... show more

  • absolutely worth the money
Style: MC440 40cc Pattern Name: Mini Cultivator
Starts very easily, runs with good power for tilling, blades work very well, the retainer clips are strong and don't pop off while using, the blades come off easily for taking out twisted on roots, and washing off dirt , then a spritz of wd-40 to keep rust off in storage between uses. The tiller is very thifty on fuel and can use for well over an hour on 1 fill. I was surprised at how quiet it is compare to my old tiller and much quiter than push mower. The only issue i found with tiller is the wheels are too close together and tips over constantly if you try rolling around like from garden to garage. so i end up carrying it back and forth and a little annoying ... show more

  • First impressions, I personally am pretty happy with it...
Style: MC440 40cc Pattern Name: Mini Cultivator
TLDR: - airbox and choke lever arrived broke (made of hard brittle plastic) - good weight, light enough to make it easy to carry around, heavy enough that it doesn't feel like a toy - besides the airbox looks well engineered and decent quality - came with oil (engine is empty make sure you fill it, even though the filler stick will come out oily, there is nothing in there!) - the blades rattle and emit a loud ring/ping if you don't have them touching the ground, they are not solidly fixed but held in by some pins I think. Again no big deal but it did catch my attention enough to mention. Put the blades into the ground or on something and they will not ping. - i'd give it 3.5 star if I could simply because the airbox issue shouldn't be a thing, however I am thus far, far more pleased with it than I am disappointed so I'll round it up. Details: I've used this for one day, multiple times throughout the day. Unboxing, the airbox cracked first time I looked at it (joke, it arrived broke). The choke button was snapped off and the airbox itself is cracked. It looks like a hard and brittle plastic (the airbox and the choke toggle). This seems like this is probably a common issue that the company should fix or at least alert customers to and offer replacements. I'm handy and confident I can fix the crack in a few minutes time so not too big of a deal to me but this shouldn't happen. -1 star off from the start. Even with the cracked airbox and no choke, it pulls and starts easy, I let it warm up a little extra time before using it. Also sometimes while using it I could tell the airbox was getting bent/tweaked/twisted a bit and allowing more air into the crack and bogging down. Using it: It feels good to use and ran strong. It had plenty of power and never bogged out besides the airbox issues. I was chewing into semi-moist grass yard. In some more compact areas the blades created a slick/smooth packed soil once it got down a few inches and once it got like that it was hard to get the blades to dig into it. ... show more

  • Quit running
Style: MC440 40cc Pattern Name: Mini Cultivator
This was great at first. Started really easy and ran good. Had it for 2 years now. I want to preface this by saying I have quite a lot of gas engine power equipment so I know how to take care of them. I always use fuel stabilizer and don't have any problems until now. We've used this tiller/cultivator maybe half a dozen times. Went to start it up and fuel isn't going through the lines and will on prime. The gasket on the fuel tank that the lines run through has cracked and is leaking. Contacted the seller and they said they don't cover any fuel related problems but to send them the model and serial numbers and he would check. I did that and heard nothing back from them. Just wanted to let everyone know they will not stand behind the "5 year warranty" they tout. I did a three star review after about a month of using it. I gave it three stars because even when it runs it's kind of too light weight to dig into the soil unless the soil is already kind of loose. So now y'all have a two year longevity update. The update is that it has no longevity. Waste of money! ... show more

  • Great performer, but
Style: MC440 40cc Pattern Name: Mini Cultivator
I'm 74 years old, and needed a tiller easy to start and easy to use. It is easy and great to use. Not too easy to start - too much pulling on starter road. It a great tiller. Very unique! The till must be tilted on it gas tax to gingerly get to the oil fill cap and get it out and back in. Not easy, Manual and actual oil level need clarification my manufacturers. Not as easy to start as expected. It does perform outstandingly once I get it started and in the garden. I do like the way it handles - tills. Phone call to customer service was great, but the email response to my questions was too standard, off the shelf answers, not really addressing my questions. These are the facts. ... show more
