  • So easy to use, vacuuming is no longer a dreaded task for me
This is the second Dyson vacuum I have owned. I also have the Dyson V7 that I purchased almost 10 years ago. This vacuum is amazing and it is actually still functional, but I have noticed that the suction power isn't as strong anymore and the battery life has diminished. Which is expected with almost 10 years of use and cleaning up lots of dog fur. This Dyson V8 vacuum is such a nice upgrade. The battery life is longer and the suction power is stronger! The vacuum is quite lightweight and I can comfortably vacuum the whole house (with short breaks). I have successfully vacuumed up long hair, dog fur, food crumbs, dirt, dust, all sorts of things. The suction power is strong, and picks up hairs and dust in one go without getting tangled or clogged. I'm not sure how it performs on carpet because we don't have any but on hardwood floors and tiles, it gets the job done easily. The battery life is great and enough for me to completely vacuum the whole house (about 30-40 minutes). You do need to charge it for a few hours before using to get use of the full battery life. I also like how it's not overly noisy. If you use it on max, it is quite loud, but I actually haven't had much use for this yet. The regular suction strength works fine for most things. There is a power trigger that you need to keep pressed with your index finger in order for the vacuum to turn on. I like this because it saves energy and only turns on when you are actively vacuuming but I do wish that it was a bit easier to keep pressed down. There are times when I am moving wires and things out of the way while I am vacuuming and it's nice to have the vacuum turn off to save battery power. It is quite easy to empty, you just need to pull the red handle up and the canister opens from the bottom. Make sure that you close this all the way before you start vacuuming or you will have dust flying into the air. I do wish that there was a free-standing dock for this vacuum so I don't need to install the mount on my wall. I really like this vacuum and think it is totally worth the price. They are a bit pricey but you are paying for the high quality, ease of use, and they can last many years if properly taken care of. Once you try using a cordless Dyson vacuum, it's really hard to go back to heavy, corded vacuums that you have to lug around. ... show more

  • Picked up dust out of my carpet that other vacuum left behind
I'm pretty happy with this vacuum. It has good suction power and picks up even fine dust on the floors and baseboard. It has 2 different modes and is changed using a sliding switch. It's a good length and I don't have to bend forward to use it. It's very slim and lightweight which makes it easy to carry from room to room and up stairs. It comes with a hanging bracket to hang up out of the way and it can be used to hang the vacuum while charging. It comes with its own charging cord and it charges up pretty quickly and a charge lasts about a half hour at a time depending on usage. It comes with two heads one that has a roller for the floor and a slotted tube attachment for crevices or to use in the car although i have not used that part yet. I have long hair and shed a lot and have several cats and a dog. Other vacuums I've had I would have to stop and cut hair out of the rollers and this one sucks it up no problem without having to stop and untangle anything. It has an easy empty canister that you can empty right into the trash and not have to worry about bags or replacements. My house had a lot more dust in the carpet than I realized and was grossed out seeing how much was in the canister after I ran it over my already clean carpet. It is a bit pricey but it works very well and I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of it. ... show more

  • Suction is solid. Normal mode handles everyday messes just fine,
Bought it a week ago, here’s my honest take. I used to have a corded vacuum and honestly dreaded using it every time — dragging the wire around the whole apartment was such a pain. Switching to the V8 made a huge difference. My cat sheds like crazy and now I just grab it real quick in the morning, clean up, done. No plugging in, no untangling cords. That alone is worth it for me. Is it expensive? Yeah, I won’t lie, I stared at the price for a good few days before finally pulling the trigger. But after a week of actually using it, I get why it costs what it costs. The build feels solid, suction is consistent, and it doesn’t feel like one of those cheap cordless vacuums that loses power halfway through. You’re paying for something that actually works. Suction is solid. Normal mode handles everyday messes just fine, and I switch to MAX when dealing with the carpet or litter scatter. Battery lasts around 40 mins which covers my 2-bedroom no problem, but if you’ve got a bigger place I’d think twice. A few things I wish were better though — the wall mount is annoying if you’re renting and can’t drill holes, would love a freestanding charging dock option. The dustbin fills up pretty fast when pet hair is involved, like I’m emptying it mid-clean sometimes. Also the accessories don’t come with any storage, my crevice tool has been living on my kitchen counter for a week because I have no idea where else to put it. Overall yeah it’s pricey, but I don’t regret it. Just wish Dyson thought a bit more about the little everyday details. ... show more

  • Comes with Fewer Attachments; Good for Touch Up Cleaning Comes with Fewer Attachments; Good for Touch Up Cleaning
I think I'm a vacuum dork. There are plenty of household chores I dislike, but I find vacuuming satisfying. Generally, we're a Large Aquatic Predator vacuum household; I have other Dyson products, like the Supersonic hairdryer and the Airwrap styler, but I had never tried one of their vacuums - so it was exciting to be able to. Now, the V8 is an older line - specifically, this is the SV25 V8. It isn't their fancy Gen5Outsize, V15 Detect or the Pencilvac Fluffycones, but that's OK - not every home needs top end. Home Context - here's a bit about the home I am cleaning with this V8: Just under 1400sq ft. 2 floors + basement. Mostly laminate, but tile in the foyer and bathrooms, and a small bit of carpet on the stairs and (small!!) upstairs hallway plus rugs in the bedrooms. The basement is concrete floor that was badly painted (thanks, previous owner) with a carpet remnant on some of it. Two adults, four cats, (two short fur, two longhaired). We work from home, indoors, but my spouse mows so we occasionally have grass clippings inside. We deal with fur, dander, litter tracking, my long hair shedding, random kibble in weird places, and normal detritus of life - dust, crumbs. My main floor is primary served by a robovac that I love. It doesn't get EVERYWHERE though, so I like to vacuum the first floor every 2-4 weeks manually to make up for what it can't get - mostly weird corners, or I move furniture to get those places. I manually vacuum the upstairs, carpeted staircase, and basement 1-2x per week. Initial Impression: I was really, *really* surprised by how lightweight it was - and not necessarily in a good way. It felt too light, almost cheap, as I was assembling it. Thankfully, assembly is easy. Light does mean it won't be as tiring to use, but based on the build quality of my Supersonic and Airwrap, I expected more than lightweight plastic. Note that this product does NOT come with the hair screw tool or the combination tool. This is only their Motorbar cleaner head, crevice tool, charger, dock, and the unit itself. Using the V8: I didn't know this had a trigger to turn it on. This was weird to me, though I could see the appeal. There is no trigger lock, though, so you must keep it depressed while working. It seemed fine at first, but by 2/3 of the way through vacuuming the upstairs and moving to the carpeted stairs, I was fatigued; the trigger is not good for "full-blown" cleaning for me specifically because I have a wrist condition. I wish it had a trigger lock. I could use a velcro or something to rig one, but in a $350-400 vacuum, I feel like I shouldn't have to. Clean Quality: It did clean well - I feel it did better on my minimal carpeting than my relatively new (6mo old) Aquatic Predator cordless stick vacuum, but they aren't comparable models (existing vac has a combination head with traditional and fluffy rollers that are well-suited to my mix of floor types), so it isn't a fair comparison. Really got the pet fur and did wonderfully on that, though! It didn't do better, with the motorbar head, on my many hard surfaces, however. I'm sure a different head, if you wanted to buy additional heads, would be fantastic. Air filtration seemed good - better than my existing one, which is to be expected because that is a major Dyson differentiator. I didn't like how small the dust cup is, though; it filled VERY quickly despite having vacuumed just two days prior to getting it. Emptying the dust cup is weird and unlike any other vacuum I've used; the mechanism sticks a bit, maybe it will be less stiff with use. Verdict: This is a nice vacuum, but it isn't a great fit for vacuuming my whole home due to a combination of the cleaner head (though you can buy a different one), the comically small dust cup (I don't want to have to empty multiple times for my definitely not-huge house), and the tiring-to-use trigger mechanism. I'd recommend this for quick clean-up applications - maybe you don't vacuum your house daily, but want to do a quick zoom of high-traffic areas. For us, we'll use this in our detached, 2-level garage (that is more of a hangout space and electronics workshop) because it will meet the needs of the space better. There are many exciting attachments that other vacuum makers don't offer, though, so I may explore those and find that this is more valuable to me. It does make me want to explore Dyson's higher-end vacuums, though that isn't in the budget right now. For $350-400, I wish this had more attachments, because this model is commonly sold with more. I'd consider or recommend it on sale, but I wouldn't get this specific one at this price point with the minimal attachments. ... show more

  • Super nice and lightweight
I was really excited to try this Dyson vacuum cleaner! I normally use a shark corded vacuum, however sometimes the cord likes to get tangled up or I have to unplug it and replug it in when I'm moving from room to room so having a cordless one was a nice change of pace. I was so shocked at how light this was, I could easily pick it up with one puny arm. It was so easy to maneuver and I was impressed by the suction. I do wish there was a way to depress the trigger without having to hold it the whole time. I like bagless vacuums, I know that bagged vacuums tend to be better in terms of filtering the air better however I'm just lazy and I don't want to be dealing with bags. When it comes to my personal home it's not that dirty so I don't mind using bagless. This is an older Dyson so I know that their technology has advanced quite a bit but for the price, I thought this was a good deal if you're looking for a nice super light brand name vacuum! Personally I do think that between the two I would rather pick the shark just because it's corded so I don't have to worry about charging it and it's a lot cheaper, but I'm honestly really excited about this Dyson. It's so nice to be able to lift it anywhere and to clean anything! It's literally light enough to pick up over my head and clean curtains which I cannot do with my shark. ... show more

  • Great premium vacuum!
This is another fantastic Dyson vacuum! I also have the V10, and while this one is noticeably less powerful than that one, it is still really strong and does a great job overall. It is definitely not a weak vacuum by any means, it is just a step below the V10 if you are comparing the two directly. It has that same solid premium Dyson quality and feel that you expect from the brand, and it handles all floor types really well including cat hair, which is always my biggest test. It is also a bit more lightweight and compact than the V10, which makes it really nice for quick cleanups or getting into tighter spaces. The handheld conversion is a really convenient feature too for stairs, upholstery, and car interiors. I will note the run time is up to 40 minutes compared to the V10's 60 minutes, so just something to keep in mind depending on how large your space is. Price-wise, at $389.99 it is still a significant investment, but for a Dyson with this level of quality and performance I think it is pretty fair, especially if you don't need the extra power of the V10. Overall, it is just a really fantastic vacuum, and if you are deciding between this and the V10, it really just comes down to how much power and run time you need! ... show more

  • Lightweight, Powerful, and a Joy to Use
Lightweight, Powerful, and aThis Dyson lightweight cordless vacuum is absolutely outstanding. One of the first things I noticed was how incredibly light it is. Moving it around the house is effortless, making cleaning much less physically demanding than with a traditional vacuum. It works exceptionally well on a variety of surfaces, including carpet, throw rugs, hardwood floors, and tile. Despite its lightweight design, it delivers impressive suction power and handles everyday cleaning tasks with ease. The cordless feature is amazing. Not having to deal with power cords, move from outlet to outlet, or worry about tripping hazards makes cleaning quicker, simpler, and far less frustrating. It allows you to move freely throughout the house and clean areas that are often inconvenient with a corded vacuum. I think this vacuum is especially well-suited for seniors or anyone with mobility challenges. The lightweight construction and ease of maneuverability make it much easier to use than many traditional models. Another benefit is how quiet it is during operation. It provides powerful cleaning performance without the excessive noise common with many vacuums. I honestly haven't found any drawbacks so far. It is lightweight, powerful, convenient, and effective. I'm genuinely in love with this vacuum and find myself cleaning more often simply because it's so easy to use. Highly recommended. Five stars! Joy to Use ... show more

  • Super lightweight but still sucks, ideal for aging folks who still want to clean their own house
This thing is absolutely awesome if you have slight mobility issues, but still want to clean your own house or apartment. Compared to a normal vacumn cleaner, moving this thing around to clean is a breeze - it basically glides on the floor when on, and can handle anything from berber carpet to hardwoods. I don't really know how they've done it, given how well it glides and how much it actually sucks out of the carpet. (you can see in the handle all of the stuff this thing can suck) Morever: this thing is cordless, and yet it vacumns as if it was a more powerful plugged in vacumn. I vacumned for darn near 20 minutes and it still was sucking a bunch, again I don't know how they did it, but it works great. (i guess you do get what you pay for) one thing to keep in mind: you really need to fully charge this thing after every use, and definitely before the first time you use this thing, you need to have it plugged in for a few hours to fully charge. This can make a big difference in battery life. so if you are aging or know somebody who is and find normal vacumns difficult to move around the house, get this. ... show more
