Let me preface this brief review with the fact that I am a vacuum snob- I vacuum daily and I am hyper critical of my vacuums so the fact that I rate this product so highly should say something for the overall quality and performance of this vacuum. I originally bought a Dyson cordless vacuum years ago (don’t remember the model) and I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. The thing had horrible battery life, suction was pitiful. It just didn’t do what a vacuum was supposed to do. Fast forward a few years and I decided to give it another shot with the V8 Absolute. Very different experience from my prior vacuum. I have a 3600 square foot office with mostly hard floors that I purchased a V8 Absolute to take care of. I always hated plugging things in but didn’t want to sacrifice suction and cleaning performance for the sake of mobility; however, the thought of a cord-free cleaning experience that was on-par with a corded experience was quite alluring. I bought the V8 for my office in 2016 and have used it daily. We remodeled the office space and many days there was Sheetrock dust everywhere- this vacuum didn’t miss a beat. Ceiling tile debris, saw dust, Sheetrock dust, bits and pieces of construction didn’t phase it. Since the remodel, it hasn’t had so much as a hiccup in it’s performance. In a typical vacuuming run, I used a mix of “high power” and “regular power” settings with the powered hard floor attachment and typically finish cleaning my 3600 square foot office with 2/3 or 1/3 battery lights still on. I’ve never run out of juice. That is quite amazing. Everything is sucked up the first time, every time- the only real reason I use “high power” occasionally is where tile has a deep groove in it in doorways, and high power is good to get things from deep down in crevices. Growing on 2 years after my first V8 purchase, the battery is still holding up great, nothing has broken, and it cleans as well as the day I bought it. Fast forward to the end of 2017 I bought a second Dyson V8 Absolute for my home use and I have had virtually the exact same stellar experience that I had with my first V8 Absolute for my office. At home I use the carpet Motörhead more than the hard floor attachment, and I can thoroughly say that it is just as good on carpet as the hard floor attachment is on hard floors. Battery life is about the same on carpet as it is hard floors- I’ve never had a cleaning job or vacuuming need that the V8 battery wasn’t more than enough to complete. I also have multiple indoor pets and the V8 has absolutely no issue pulling up pet debris/shedding without skipping a beat. You have to empty the canister more often, if you have pets- but not so frequently that using the V8 becomes annoying. I highly recommend this vacuum- its one of the best available, period. Even when compared to many corded models, I’d still prefer the Dyson V8 Absolute 98% of the time.

We are in the midst of a remodel and our primary (plugin) vacuum cleaner was hanging out at our son's home. So, to combat the endless dust and upgrade or remaining nearly useless vacuum we did our homework. Consumer Reports highly recommended this unit, and one of our friends one as well. I've got to say that this unit works VERY well. What is most amazing about it is how much dust and dirt it will gobble up without putting any of it back into the air. With our other vacuums when you used them you could "smell" them because the filters just didn't take out all the junk they were picking up. I even did the "unthinkable" and scooted our heavy sleigh bed out enough to get this unit back there. The dust there was inches think (ok, millimeters thick) and the unit was able to snarf up almost a full "bucket" of allergens without redistributing it into the air. It's easy to empty and clean, too. Just be careful to actually have the bin over the trash when you pull the red "ejection" button. This unit does have two flaws, IMHO, both minor. First: The method of attaching the unit to the charger bracket is not well thought out. To be fair, we haven't hung it up on a wall anywhere because as yet we have no place to hang it, but the combination of maneuvers required to get it to mate with the charger bracket is silly. As a result, we just don't use the bracket and merely plug the charger directly into the motor when we finish with our daily hard floor dust cleanup. Second: It's got quite a few attachments, and no way to hang/store them neatly. The wall bracket can accommodate perhaps one of the attachments... but the others will need to find a shelf, drawer or somewhere else to live. It also means you'll have to store the extension tube if you're not using it (e.g. when vacuuming upholstery). A little more design would have provided a way to nest the items together and hang them so they are all easy to get to. Our unit came with two brushes, a "pointy nozzle", an extension tube, a narrow brush unit and a wide brush unit. The two brush units have built in beater bars. I think the smaller one is intended for use on upholstery. Unfortunately the upholstery brush unit is harder to disassemble to remove wound-up hair or string. I saw that someone complained about the battery not lasting very long. Seems fine to me. May not clean every floor of your Beverly Hill Mansion, but it does the job pretty well in our modestly sized home without needing a recharge. Of course that may also be because we seldom need to use the "high suction" mode which halves the run time. It sucks really well even in the low/default suction setting. Bottom line is our house would be unlivable due to the daily sawdust and drywall dust without this unit (and two HEPA air purifiers). I was also surprised when the unit went into "on-off" mode. It sucks, stops, starts sucking again. I thought perhaps that was an indication that the battery was dying, but discovered that the unit does that when it is clogged/blocked. In one case it had sucked up a wad of insulation. I don't recall seeing that in the scant manual anywhere, but perhaps I missed it. About the weight... it's not all that light! You will notice after a while of using it. It's close to 9 pounds, i.e. the weight of a bowling ball and since it doesn't ride around on it's own wheels, you're the one providing the support. But boy-o-boy is it so much more effective than those "dust buster" vacuums of the past. IN SUMMARY: Great unit. Would highly recommend.

I have had this Dyson unit for a month, it comes with all the tools I would need. I was concerned about battery life, but upon reviewing the manual it will not be a problem, using either Motorheads reduces the battery to 21 minutes, but with the other attachments I can see it lasting that long, I will update if my findings are different. I like the lightweight of the unit. it works really well in daily upkeep of our house, 4 dogs and a cat, and I don't have to lug the big vac out. Yes it is expensive, it was almost a deal breaker. I researched it at a leading consumer magazine and other reviews online and decided to buy it, no regrets. On another note I noticed that the plastics of the attachments and unit are like, hmmmmmm not mixed well?? Swirls to be exact. Minor if it holds up.....will update on this also if issues surface. Oops forgot to mention that the vendor did not indicate on their page that they did not have any in stock. I followed up after a few days of seeing when the item would ship, I sent a message thru the channels and the reply I got was "I don't know when it will be back in stock! I contacted Amazon and they had the item shipped to me in three days! Kudos to their customer service! Update: 12-20-2016 This unit works great, only downside is the angles that I vacuum the power unit rubs my skin on the top of my hand. I can clean the whole house on a charge, plus some, my house is small 1600 sq ft. I have had no issues with what I described earlier, I love it! Update:8/28/21 This is a very durable product with excellent customer service and support! This is still the best vac I have owned!! It has lasted way longer than I expected making it worth the price I paid for it!!! Others say they are better, maybe in price, but quality imho is unparalleled, engineered to be the best, he did not lie!! The power this unit has is still the same as when new, if your on the edge of whether this is an investment or a infomercial , it’s not!! It’s the real deal!!

I've been eying the Dyson cordless vacuums for years now, but on the fence because of the short battery life. While the V8 is very expensive, the battery life seemed adequate so I waited for Black Friday and pounced when I saw a price reduction. The 1st time I tried the vacuum I was actually really disappointed. The weight distribution is very strange, and my arm actually felt tired when I was vacuuming my apartment. I didn't feel like there was an incredible amount of suction from the non-motorized head either. The 2nd time I used it, I liked it a little better, but again didn't feel like the vacuum was worth the steep price point. It wasn't until the 3rd use that I had the aha moment. Some work had been done inside my apartment, and there was a lot of dirt on the bedroom rug. I walked to the other room, grabbed my vacuum, popped on the appropriate head, and cleaned up the rug in a couple minutes. I didn't have to lug out big vacuum from the closet, plug it in, or fuss with anything. It was easy, and now I had gotten a little more used to the weighting of the device. The Dyson V8 appears to work much better with the motorized heads which should come as no surprise, and it does a very good job. Max power is impressive but drains the battery quickly as advertised, but for most jobs, regular power works just fine. The motorized wood cleaning attachment is great because I never have to worry about damaging the floor. I will say, however, that this is the head that requires the most work for you since there aren't any wheels on the bottom. My arm still gets tired using that attachment, but the results are still better and it's much more convenient to use than the regular vacuum. So the big question - is it worth the price? I'm leaning toward yes at this point, but I did purchase the item with a decent discount.

I purposely waited for the V8 to come out, because I heard that the battery life wasn’t very good on the V6 and the V7 models. I am so happy that I waited because the power on this one and the battery life is sufficient to do my whole house. One does not need to put it on full power — which runs the battery down faster — to get a good thorough cleaning job on hardwood floors. I have a 2 1/2 story house with all wood floors and a couple of area rugs. I have 25 stairs going from the first floor to the second floor into the attic. I have enough juice to vacuum all of these floors with the hardwood floor attachment. I have two bedrooms plus a full attic with hardwood floors and one carpeted room and I can vacuum all of these on one battery life, using the power head on the carpet. I love, love, love this vacuum. It does have its design flaw as other customers have noted in their reviews. When you use the vacuum, it does rub on your thumb knuckle and can be very painful, but, for me, it’s not a deal breaker. I cannot reduce the amount of stars because of this one annoying factor. I personally, bought a thumb brace that I wear when I use this product and it takes care of the problem (See pictures). Yes it is a little annoying having to wear this thing while I vacuum, but the brilliance of this machine, the vacuuming power, and everything about it, including the long battery life far outweigh any design flaw that it has. I also like the fact that when I use it going up the stairs, it sucks all of the dirt, even out of the very corners of the stairs without having to use the crevice tool, as well as in the kitchen from underneath the cabinets where my upright vacuum could not get. I also like the fact that it has a flat little brush that is perfect for dusting plantation blinds. The vacuum is super lightweight and very quiet. PS I do not work for Dyson and don’t know anyone who does.

I have never owned a Dyson before, but I had heard good things about them. My wife wanted a cordless vacuum for quick clean ups downstairs and I try to make a habit of not buying junk. I did some research and was most impressed by the Dyson V8's 40 minute runtime. Couple that with Dyson's reputation of high tech, forward thinking and I was sure that paying three times more than most other cordless vacuums was a solid idea. Once I received the vacuum and read through the manual I felt taken advantage of. Dyson set their own bar so high in their own description that I had no choice other than do be sorely disappointed in the V8. Here are my four concerns: 1). This is by far my biggest complaint. The other three complaints are minor, but this one isn't. The only battery spec you will ever see advertised as of 8/30/16 is "up to 40 minutes". In fact, the box says "40 minute" with a picture of a battery. The box has no asterisk, and no explanation. Once you open the box and read the material, you will find that this vacuum only has 25 minutes of battery when used on low suction with the motorized carpet head, and only 7 minutes on night suction. I have no issue with the 7 minutes on high, my issue is with the 25 minutes on low suction with the carpet tool installed. I feel like that should be explained everywhere they advertise "40 minutes". Honestly, I feel like they're deceptive; and I thought Dyson, as a company, was above that. 2). Dyson consistently advertises their products as "carbon free" which means they are carbon brush free, known as brushless. They even included a small white booklet (see picture) with this very vacuum basically saying that the electric motor hasn't changed in 100 years, but Dyson is so freaking awesome that they use brushless motors. Well, on page 12 of the user manual, under "operation" it says "this machine has carbon fiber brushes." (See picture) So basically I'm still not clear if this motor is an awesome Dyson technologically superior advanced "brushless" motor, or the old brushed version that they say hasn't changed in 100 years. Why is this relevant? Brushless motors are stronger and use less battery. Also, brushes are a consumable item, meaning they wear out and need replacement. 3). Dyson has always advertised that their vacuums never lose suction. The owners manual extensively covers how to unclog several areas of the vacuum.(see picture) The fine print of the warranty says that clogs are not covered by warranty. (See picture). So if my vacuum is clogged, does it lose suction? Of course it does. 4). There are two filters that need to be washed in water and air dried for 24 hours at least once a month. I have never had to wash filters on my vacuum before. Maybe I'm just getting old and behind the times on this one, and if so, you can just disregard this criticism. Just be aware, you'll need to "wash" you vacuum monthly. Basically, I'm mostly disappointed with Dyson's marketing and advertising tactics. I feel lied to, I feel cheated. If you understand that this vacuum has a 25 minute runtime when used with the carpet brush or hard floor brush, then it's really hard to justify paying $599. Shortly, the Dyson rep will chime in and explain that you indeed can achieve 40 minute run time using the crevice tool or duster. That's great, maybe you should explain that when you advertise your specs. I, like most people, planned on using the hard floor and carpet brush heads exclusively, so I will exclusively get 25 minutes, never 40. For that reason alone, this is going back.

I was reluctant to pay this much for a vacuum but after using it for about 10 months I would buy it again in an instant if something happened to it. The first thing I noticed was how light it was, it is very easy to use one handed and controlling the direction is so easy. The second thing I noticed was how quiet it was, I wasn't expecting it to be that quiet. Although it doesn't sound like it this thing is powerful. We have 2 cats and a dog and this thing works extremely well. I use the soft roller on the hard wood and tile floors and it does a great job at picking up even the fine dust. I never feel like the floors are dirty after using it, it picks up everything. Even with all the pet hair I don't have any issues with it sticking to the roller. The carpet roller really does a great job at picking everything up and it doesn't shoot debris out of the back like some vacuums I have used. I find it is best to use it on carpets instead of hard wood floors though. The suction is so strong that you have to be careful with rugs that don't have a stiff backing, they will bunch up and stop the roller. I find it best to hold it down with my feet to keep it down while I vacuum it. The upholstery attachment works incredibly well on the couches, honestly the best I have used. It doesn't just bunch the hair together without picking it up like some vacuums, after 2 passes it's gone. I also use it for the kitchen table chairs and the bathroom rugs. The canister is a decent size, even with all the pet hair I probably empty it about 5 times for the whole house. It's so easy to do though that I don't mind if sometimes it's more often, pull the top up, push it back down and close the bottom door. It only takes a few seconds. At first I did find that the finger I used to pull the trigger would hurt after a while, but it was because I was holding on too tight. Try using it with a lose grip, since it's so light you can easily manoeuvre it without holding on to it too tight. They suggest you clean the filters once a month, and it might look clean on the outside when you pull it out and think it looks fine like I did but when I finally cleaned it the water was very dirty coming out of it. I also keep a nickle and safety pin near the dock so I can remove the roller and the hair that gets wrapped around on the inside. With a kitchen, living room, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and the basement I am able to do the whole house on a charge. There have been times where I wasn't able to finish the basement because I ran out of power but those times I spent more time cleaning the dust off shelves and tables. I don't really use the Max setting since I don;t feel like I need it. Using Max on the carpet seems too strong and stop the rollers from spinning. It is nice to have when I am cleaning the cars though. It would be nice to have a replaceable battery for the times I have run out of power. Right now it doesn't happen much but if we had a bigger house it could be an issue. Luckily you don't have to wait until it's fully charged to start using it again.

To say that I love this vacuum is an understatement! I live in a carpeted 1400 square foot apartment and this vacuum makes vacuuming easy and enjoyable. One of my favorite aspects of it is that you don't have to constantly plug it in and re-plug it in as you move around the apartment -- because of this, I can quickly vacuum up a mess in far less time than it would have taken me to get our conventional vacuum out of the closet, plug it in, vacuum up the mess, etc. And I love being able to vacuum around/under furniture so easily. I rarely even move our dining room chairs as I vacuum anymore because this vacuum maneuvers so well under and around them. I also love being able to vacuum under our bed and under armchairs and dressers, as this gets up so much more dust than you would otherwise. The vacuum is also super easy to empty, which is great. Since I purchased this almost a year ago, I have yet to have a problem with wanting to vacuum longer than the battery will allow, although I suppose if you have a lot more square footage, this could become a problem. $600 for a vacuum did seem somewhat outrageous, but I can honestly say that I expect to get $600 of enjoyment out of this. I vacuum pretty much every single week without fail and actually enjoy doing it every time -- whereas with my old vacuum, I would put off this task for as long as possible as dust collected everywhere. Also, if you're significant other wants to buy this, you should know that I don't think I've let my husband vacuum at all since we got this because I love using it so much :)
