Just in the past year, we've owned a few variety of stick vacs including one from Shark and one from Dreame. We weren't quite satisfied with the performance of either, so we were really excited to check out the latest offering from Dyson. In a nutshell, this vacuum is better than any we’ve owned previously, but it’s also got a few quirks that keep it from being perfect. Pros: • Suction performance is top notch! It uses the same cyclonic design as Dyson’s big upright vacuums, so the suction power is steady, powerful, and most importantly, consistent. Our other stick vacs would easily lose suction power over time as the bin filled, but this one maintains power even with a pretty stuffed bin, which is awesome. It has 3 suction modes, eco, normal and boost. I thought the auto mode would be mostly a gimmick, but it works surprisingly well! It changes modes depending on the dirt/debris it detects, and sure enough, when rolling through extra dirty sections, the vacuum cranks up the motor and gives you the extra power.- Battery performance is also great, by my estimate, can easily go 40 min-hour depending on the mode you’re using. • The bin compressor is a game changer…..the canister has a big red tab on the side that you can push down to press and compact the debris. When the bin is full to the brim, not even the cyclone is gonna help with the air flow because the dirt has nowhere to go. The compressor tab packs down the dirt so you can keep cleaning, and as a result, we empty this thing wayt less frequently than we had to with our old stick vacs. This is such a simple, but useful feature, it’s amazing other brands haven’t incorporated similar mechanisms in their versions. • Auto empty dock is the icing on the cake. With all bagless vacs, you have to open the bin and dump out the debris into your garbage can. Every handheld vac we’ve ever owned have the same problem here: dumping out the waste is a messy process. The debris empties into the garbage can, and dirt clouds fly back up into your face and back into the room, and there’s not really a way to avoid it without emptying it outside. The auto empty dock fixes this. When you dock the vacuum to charge, you press the bin release button, push down the compactor, and voila, the bin has a dedicated motor that sucks all of the junk out into a disposable bag. The bag holds 60 days of dirt according to Dyson, but we don’t use ours daily and based on our current usage I’m estimating it lasts at least +2 months before we’ll have to change it. The convenience is nice, but secondary to how much more hygienic/tidier the whole process is. No more having to delicately and gingerly open the bin to empty to avoid atomic dust clouds, now you just press a button and it’s automatically cleaned out….incredible. • It comes with a huge variety of attachments. You get an all surface dual cone head with the dirt detector, one that’s designed for pet hair (we don’t have pets so can’t comment on it, seems to work well though), one that’s for hard floors specifically, and a crevice tool. The all surface works best for carpets, and is decent on floors too, but the hard floor head performs best for floors if you need a really thorough floor cleaning. Cons: • With great power, comes great….weight. This thing is a beast when it comes to cleaning power, but it is freegin heavy…..more than 2x heavier than our old shark stick vac. Not a huge deal for quick emergency pickups around the house, but if you’re vacuuming a whole room or multiple rooms, you will definitely start to feel it….the heft is one thing, but this impacts ergonomics because the balance of the whole thing feels off. It’s so top heavy, that maneuvering around is not quite as easy as you would intuitively think. • This could be because it’s new, but swapping out the long attachment heads requires a bit brute force. Not particularly hard, but my wife who’s a little smaller than me, often has to ask me to come over and yank it off for her. I imagine the stiffer connection results in a tighter seal, which is good for performance, but something to be aware of, especially for this model because you need to detach the head every time to charge on the dock. • The other little nitpick is the auto empty dock itself. To empty the vacuum, you have to press the canister release/open switch, and slide the compressor all the way down to allow the dock to suck everything out. The one problem that was immediately obvious, is that there’s no mechanism to pull the canister bin back closed after its emptied. That means you have to be careful on your subsequent cleaning session not to yank the vacuum off the charger too quickly or residual dust can fly out. The dock has an LED warning indicator that tells you the canister is open, which helps, but would be nice if there was a way to close it back. Also, you don’t have to empty into the auto dock every time. You can easily clean for multiple weeks before emptying, and I think they explicitly recommend emptying only when needed vs every time. All in all, this thing is an amazing vacuum. Despite a few minor drawbacks that keep it from being perfect, it’s still hands down the best handheld stick vac we’ve ever had, and would recommend it 100% to anyone looking for a replacement or new daily vac!

I never thought I’d own a $1,000 vacuum, but here we are. There are some things this vacuum does incredibly well. The suction is fantastic, the tangle-free roller is a dream when you have a golden retriever, and that optic green light on the front is both amazing and slightly horrifying. You can see EVERYTHING. Apparently my golden retriever should just be naked because I have no idea how she has any fur left on her body after seeing what is on my floors. Initially, I thought the vacuum was simply too powerful for area rugs. My house is all hardwood and tile with smaller and area rugs throughout, and the rugs were basically a Dyson choking hazard. It would suck them up, give up on life, and stop immediately. After some experimenting, I discovered I CAN vacuum them using the Fluffy cleaner head in Eco mode and sometimes Auto mode, depending on how the vacuum is feeling that day. So that is definitely an improvement. Unfortunately, the Fluffy head is not the dual conical cleaner head with the detangling feature, which is one of the features I really like about this vacuum. I still wish there were a simple lower-suction rug setting that allowed me to use the main cleaner head without trial and error. The Hair Screw tool, however, is fantastic. It works extremely well on furniture and pet beds and is especially useful when you have a golden retriever generously distributing fur across every available surface. Releasing the canister from the wand is also ridiculously difficult right now. I’m hoping that loosens up with use because otherwise I apparently need to add upper-body strength training to my cleaning routine. The auto-empty dock is convenient, and I really like that the attachments store inside it. Exactly how they are SUPPOSED to fit in there is another question. The instructions are mostly pictures, and some of them feel like a game of vacuum-themed Pictionary. I eventually managed to get everything inside and close the door, so I’m calling that a victory. I was also surprised to discover that the auto-empty system uses disposable dust bags. I assumed there would be a reusable bin that I emptied periodically. Nope. It comes with one bag installed and one extra, and then you’ll be buying replacements. I have a golden retriever. That ought to last about twelve minutes. Dyson says 30 days or so. I understand why the bag system exists, though. For someone with severe allergies, this is actually a fantastic feature. The bag is completely sealed and even self-seals when removed, so you never have to come into contact with the dust, hair, and whatever other horrifying things the green light just revealed were living on your floor. The multi-stage whole-machine filtration is another big plus, especially since the air leaving the machine is filtered cleaner than the surrounding room air. Connecting it to the MyDyson app was easy. The vacuum itself is top-heavy, like most cordless stick vacuums, does not stand on its own, and the wand length is not adjustable. For $1,000, I expected to be blown away by more than the suction, green light, tangle-free roller, and Hair Screw tool. Those features are genuinely excellent, and I’m much happier now that I’ve figured out a way to vacuum my rugs. But needing a specific cleaner head and the right mode just to accomplish that, along with the disposable bags, poor instructions, and a few basic usability issues, keeps this from feeling like a $1,000 experience. I’m honestly between 3 and 4 stars just because of the cost, not because of the vacuum. If you have mostly hard flooring, pets, and especially allergies, there is a lot to love here. And apparently if you have area rugs, you and your Dyson just need some time to get to know each other first.

This thing is pretty nice! It is definitely one of the more premium cordless vacuums I have used, and the cleaning performance has been excellent so far. My biggest adjustment has been the weight distribution. The top section is pretty heavy, and while I know that is normal for this style of cordless vacuum, this one feels a little more clunky to maneuver than I expected. It is not terrible, but after using it for a while you definitely notice that weight in your hand. The auto mode works extremely well most of the time, and I really like not having to constantly think about changing settings myself. That said, it does get confused more often than I would expect. I have tile where it will suddenly decide it is on carpet and change modes, and it happens fairly regularly. It still cleans just fine, but for something this expensive I wish the floor detection was a little more consistent. The little compacting bin feature is actually really neat. It helps pack everything down so the bin holds more, and emptying it is extremely easy. I have multiple people with long hair in the house plus a longhair kitty, so there is an absurd amount of hair everywhere. So far I have had zero issues with clogging, and the brushes have not wrapped themselves in hair either, which is honestly one of the biggest wins for me. The dock works exactly like it should too. It empties the vacuum, charges it, and gives everything a nice place to live instead of having attachments scattered around. Overall, I really like it. The top-heavy feel takes some getting used to and the automatic floor detection could definitely be smarter, but the actual cleaning performance is fantastic. The anti-tangle performance alone has been incredibly useful in my house, and the self-emptying dock and compacting bin make day-to-day use much easier.
