  • Excellent cleaning performance Excellent cleaning performance
Style: V15 Detec Origin
I've been really happy and impressed with how well this Dyson vacuum has been. It's my first Dyson vacuum and I've been using this for a while to clean up around the home. While I'm using the vacuum, I can maneuver the unit with relative ease. The only drawback would be that most of the weight is in the handheld portion, but it hasn't caused much stress on my wrist. Actuating the button, to turn on the vacuum, is very lightweight and it hasn't been a problem for me having to keep it pressed down. As for the performance, it does really well at cleaning up hairs of different sizes and collecting even the tiniest of dust. The purple HEPA filter is actually really useful, because none of the dirt that circulates through the machine gets released back into the air. The suction is really strong and sometimes I find it even to be too strong when it runs over certain carpet. On some of my carpets, the head of the unit stops which means that I have to use a different vacuum to clean it up. I have used the lowest suction setting, opened the gates on the head, but the suction would still be too strong for the vacuum to continue. For general cleaning, automatic mode is really the best option for me. It conserves battery life and the motor wouldn't have to run hot. When there's areas on the carpet that need extra cleaning, the Dyson will automatically kick into the highest suction mode and that'll be my signal to clean that area more thoroughly. I've used this on my hardwood floors and kitchen tiles and I've been happy with the head accessory on it, because it does give a nice scrubbing effect to get the smashed particles off of the floor. It overall works really nice across all of the different floor types that I have, with the exception of some carpets where the suction is too strong that causes the vacuum to stop. It also has this display graph to show how much I've picked up. The number graph on the unit is a little bit of a gimmick. It's a nice to have, being able to see the progress of my cleaning session and what I've picked up, but it's not my indicator that an area is fully clean. As for the maintenance, cleaning it really is really easy. I can empty out the dust basket within seconds and none of it gets on me. Once in a while, I'll do a deeper clean of the unit to get any caked on dirt and dust off of it. The purple filter is re-usable and washable so I can get that clean and ready to go after it has dried out for the day. Overall, this has been an excellent vacuum and I've been really happy with how well it's been at cleaning up dirt with the added benefit of the filter not throwing any of it back into the air. The criticism of the unit would be that the bulkiness of it and the weight is on the top half which adds a little strain to the wrist, but it's not terrible. ... show more

  • Like a little self-operating shop vac, it gets it all Like a little self-operating shop vac, it gets it all
Style: V15 Detec Origin
The Dyson V15 Detect is deceptively simple. Pulling it out of the box, the components feel premium yet lightweight. There are three attachments and the ability to use the Dyson as either a hand vac or a standard stick vac. The components snap together easily and are highly intuitive to use. The crevice tool is outstanding. Because it is so lightweight and angular, I am able to get into nooks and crannies where dust and dirt have had free rein until now. As for the Fluffy Optic and Digital Motorbar cleaner heads, Dyson markets specific uses for them, but I played around and found one or the other best suited to each of my unique needs: one for my thin, washable carpets; another for the laminate flooring and sofa. Aside from the terrifyingly revealing dust illumination feature, which comes in particularly handy for tackling pet hair, my favorite feature is the cleaner heads' and canister's transparent casing. I am easily able to see what is being picked up. It would also help me identify jams if this vacuum were inclined to jam, which it isn't. It seemed to either suck bigger items up or hold them at the door... except for sneaky things like this one thin sock, which the LCD panel dutifully announced while the vacuum paused suction so I could remove it. The powerful motor coupled with the crevice tool allowed me to get down deep into the sofa where it was able to suck out all matter of childhood castoffs, including the aforementioned sock, which happened to have gone walkabout two years ago, and a considerably heavy part we've been missing from our trumpet, which I later fished out of the poor Dyson's belly. I include a picture of some of the other surprising items I cleared out. It's like a little shop vac! Speaking of clearing debris, emptying the canister couldn't be easier. It is so simple, in fact, that I kept fussing with this and that the first time, trying to work it out. In the end, it simply took a gentle push on one lever and lifting the lid while aiming downward into the trash. Somehow it just works. The LCD panel is at times both delightful and baffling. I'm afraid to admit my vacuums have all been of the ordinary variety, so I haven't had experience with a vac beeping and booping and offering to do the heavy lifting on my behalf. After giving in to its insistent helpfulness, I have found the Auto function is, indeed, smarter than I. It allows the Dyson to intuitively increase and decrease power as needed, preserving battery life while getting the job done well. It seems I've inherited a sophisticated descendant of Rosie from the Jetsons, personality and all. The battery indicator is very helpful, allowing me to prioritize what I clean in the time allotted. I find that I'm able to get one or two rooms done per charge, depending on how deeply I clean. The battery recharges by about a percent per minute. It's actually astonishing how much power this lightweight machine embodies on such a short charge. I have absolutely loved being able to grab the V15 off the wall to reset the floor and sofa whenever the urge hits me. The Dyson V15 Detect is a gamechanger. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • That laser feature is actually kind of amazing to see
Style: V15 Detec Origin
Ok so I've had a few cordless vacuums over the years and I was not expecting to be this impressed. First thing that got me was the laser on the fluffy head. I turned it on in my kitchen which I thought was pretty clean and honestly I was a little disgusted at what showed up. All this fine dust and debris just lit up on my hardwood floors that I could not see with the naked eye. My husband thought I was overreacting until he saw it himself. Now we kind of can't stop vacuuming which is a weird thing to say. The suction is really strong and the LCD screen that shows you the particle count is oddly satisfying to watch go up while you're cleaning. It makes you feel like you're actually doing something. And the battery lasts long enough to do our whole main floor without having to stop and wait for a charge. Switching between the two cleaner heads is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I've been using the motorbar head on my rugs and it does a great job with my dog's fur without getting all tangled up. That was always my biggest complaint with my old vacuum. The crevice tool is also a nice bonus for getting along baseboards and in between couch cushions. Converts to a handheld really quickly too. Would be cool if the dustbin was a tiny bit bigger but that's a minor thing. This is a great pick for pet owners or anyone with a mix of hard floors and carpet. ... show more

  • Powerful Cleaning and Easy to Use
Style: V15 Detec Origin
I’ve been using this vacuum throughout the house, and the suction power is one of the first things I noticed. It picks up dust, crumbs, pet hair, and other debris very effectively, even in areas that looked clean at first glance. The different cleaner heads make it easy to switch between hard floors and carpets, and I like how lightweight it feels compared to a traditional vacuum. The battery life has been enough for my regular cleaning sessions, and the display is helpful for checking settings and remaining runtime. It also converts quickly into a handheld unit for furniture, stairs, and the car. Cleaning feels faster and more thorough with this vacuum, and it has done an excellent job keeping floors looking clean. ... show more

  • This thing will show you how dirty your house really is
Style: V15 Detec Origin
I'll be honest – I was pretty skeptical about the $800 price tag when my $250 one seemed to work fine. But after using the Dyson V15 Detect for a while, I get why people rave about these things. The laser feature on the is useful, not just a gimmick. It shows you dust and debris you'd never see otherwise, which is both satisfying and slightly horrifying when you realize how much stuff you've been missing. The LCD screen that counts particles in real-time feels like something from a sci-fi movie, and honestly made me question how clean my house actually was since it kept picking up so much. The performance really delivers on the promises. I was able to vacuum my entire 4-bedroom house on a single charge, which is impressive for a cordless. The power automatically adjusts based on what it detects, and switching between the two cleaner heads for different surfaces works smoothly. Converting it to handheld mode for stairs and furniture is straightforward. The main downside is obviously the price – it's a significant investment for a vacuum. But if you're someone who vacuums regularly and wants to see a real difference in cleaning performance, especially on hard floors where that laser really shines, it might be worth the splurge. Just prepare to be a bit grossed out by how much dirt you've apparently been leaving behind all this time. ... show more

  • Ultimately convenient and fun to use!
Style: V15 Detec Origin
The Dyson V15 Detect is one of the most capable cordless vacuums I've used. Suction is excellent on both hard floors and carpets, and the laser illumination feature is surprisingly useful for revealing dust and debris that would otherwise be easy to miss on my lighter wood laminate flooring. The vacuum automatically adjusts suction based on the amount of dirt detected, which is very helpful if you're switching between carpet, rugs, and hardwood/laminate like I am. I do flip it to manual mode for one specific smooth-surfaced fatigue mat I have to prevent it giving too much suction and lifting the mat, but it's usually very good on its own. The cordless design makes it easy to maneuver around furniture, stairs, and tight spaces, and the included attachments add a lot of versatility for upholstery, cars, and tight spaces. It is a bit heavier than some basic stick vacuums, especially if you're just using the skinny attachment to spot-clean a small area, but it's a solid device. Emptying is best done outdoors as the canister can poof out dust a little, but it's nicer than dealing with buying replacement bags. I'm glad I got this vacuum. ... show more

  • Battery QUICKLY dies out!!!!

Impressive cordless vacuum except for the fact that the batters runs low VERY quickly. I’m hoping it’s due to my initial excitement and overuse. I don’t want to spend another $100 on a spare battery!!!

Style: V15 Detec Origin
Thought I would love this product. It died within two years of use and was told I would need to send it in for repairs and pay for shipping and repair. Dyson quality isn’t what it used to be. And the customer service was incredibly disappointing and tedious to work with. So bummed. Not worth the money ... show more
