  • Beware... it's a trap (if you have anything close to 20/20 vision)
I bought this about a month ago, for quick cleanups instead of dragging out the "big" vacuum cleaner. Because of the insidious green LED light on the brush attachment, you'll never look at your floors the same way again. I thought I was cleaning the floor but that green LED shows every speck of dust and dirt on the floor. You can never stop, it's a great exercise machine. This Dyson (my first) is actually quite nice. It is fairly quiet and the motor (and exhaust air) is near the top of the unit, so it's not blowing the dirt around. It's also about arms length away from your face, so you aren't inhaling it either. It's well designed and lightweight. Once you start, you'll get to see how much dust and dirt there is and you'll want to get it all clean. Of course, kids, dogs, cats usually means you will have dirt and dust around. Once you stop, the emptying of the dust bin is easy, but it may take a couple of tries to get the aim 100% correct. Cleaning out the dust does require a wee bit more effort but it's not hard. A cotton swab might help. Perhaps the green LED is actually a secret holographic projector to just make you think there is dirt there. The battery lasts for a very good amount of time (if you can force yourself to stop). Swapping brush heads is easy. Edit: It's been over 8 months now since I got this. Might be the best vacuum I've ever had. Lightweight, easy to use and quiet. It picks up dog hair from area rugs and wall-to-wall carpets very, very well. Once the dust bin gets full, it will stop and signal you to empty the bin. Very easy to do mostly. Bring the vacuum over to the basket, disconnect the nozzle (very easy), hold it over the basket and empty. You may have to reach in and pull some of the collected hair out but it is so easy to do, if your hands are skinny enough. Otherwise you can use a small brush/comb to pull things out. Re-attach the nozzle (very easy) and go back to your exercise program. Once assembled, it is sturdy. Removing the accumulated dust will take some effort to stick something up to the top of the dust bin to pull it out. Not hard, just a wee bit more effort. That is, if you can ever stop due to the holographic dust projector. However, I am very pleased with the unit. ... show more

  • That little green light is clearly magic.
Have been using this vac for several weeks now in 3 bedroom house with large enclosed porch, family room, and 45 pound dog currently blowing his coat. I have used this on settings eco (bare floors and Ruggables) and auto (carpets). Not once have I even come close to running out of battery. There has always been power to spare. And about that little green laser light that by all rights should be a marketing gimmick? I don’t know how I ever lived without it! It shows the doggy fur, the sand that comes in on doggy paws, the fluff and dust of everyday life (and that falls off the doggy after he’s been running around outside). That magic (yes, it is!) light shows everything including a tile on the porch that was coming loose on one corner. Could make those of us who are dirt averse crazy EXCEPT the vac just sucks all that dirt and detritus up in a flash. I never knew whether I was getting my floors clean before the little green light guy started pointing out the dirt. Thank you Dyson. The unit is light enough and balanced enough that cleaning, while not effortless, is certainly not a cumbersome task. This is my first Dyson so the on/off button just seems normal. I do wish the button was on the side rather than the top so vac could be turned on/off without using a second hand. I have not had an issue with the bin size, but a word of warning to those who have multiple shedding animals, or a single German Shepherd ( if you have a GSD you will understand…where do they get all that fur they shed every day???) you will likely have to empty the bin mid vacuum. Bin is small, but it empties easily with little mess. I looked around before I bought this. The price was a deterrent. Comparing only with other manufacturers/models rated as high for pet owners, the price became less of an issue. If you are comfortable with spending the $$, don’t hesitate to get this machine. It is a masterful at cleaning, it is easy to use, takes up little storage space, is reasonably quiet, and all those things together make it a motivator to clean more frequently. Because of bad knees I used to dread vacuuming. No more. I HIGHLY recommend this Dyson. It has been an invaluable addition to my household. ... show more

  • So in love with my Dyson
I did soooo much research on cordless vacuum cleaners , read so many Amazon reviews, as well as online articles , comparing every vacuum, when all I really wanted was the Dyson, but I just couldn’t justify spending the $500+.. let alone tell the husband 🤣 I finally bit the bullet and splurged and boy, am I glad I did. To be fair, my vacuum before was super basic, so maybe I am not the best judge, but WOW using the Dyson is like driving a Mercedes Benz for the first time. Immediately, I was like okay so THIS is why it’s so expensive. Everything about it is so smooth and seamless. It drives like a dream, so lightweight, maneuvering under tables and turning corners so flawlessly. The little green light magnifying all the invisible dust/debris — total game changer. It’s user friendly, easy to operate, the self emptying cartridge where you don’t have to touch anything, just press the red lever to empty it is another added bonus. I love the little screen that tells you the count of number of different particles it picked up. The suction is excellent and It’s not even noisy! I can still talk on the phone with no problem while I vacuum. The only thing that would make it better is if it had new car smell!! lol! If you are on the fence about buying one of these, don’t be- Just do it! You won’t regret it. Such an exquisite piece of equipment. I love using it so much that it makes me excited to clean the house. Now I feel like I need to try all their products - next is the blow dryer 🤪 Update- I went to write a good review and I forgot I already wrote this review- it is 1 year since my purchase and I am still just as impressed. It’s all the tiny little details for me, like the smooth way that it turns a corner and cleans all the areas that are hard to get to, or how the head on the hand piece bends so you can vacuum your headboard or couch vertically. I am a Dyson fanatic now, I bought the straightener and love it too ... show more

  • Do not buy this vacuum cleaner! It breaks quickly, and Dyson customer service is a joke!
I would love to give this product 5 stars. I really would. At first, my wife thought that I was crazy spending so much money on a vacuum cleaner. But as long as it works(!), it is a great product. However, Amazon first shipped me a broken unit, which never turned on. To be fair, Amazon send a replacement within 2 days, which was great! But after less than a year, the vacuum cleaner stopped working. It automatically turns off every time after 2 seconds. I did the typical debugging steps: checking for any blockage, cleaning all components, including the air filter. But nothing worked. Then I started reaching out to Dyson's so called "customer service"... and this is when the horror started. The online customer service was a joke - they told me that my device was already registered 6 months before I even bought it. Then they claimed that they would send me a replacement part, as soon as I upload my proof of purchase, which I was supposed to do via email. After I did that, another Dyson representative reached out to me via email, starting to ask me all kinds of troubleshooting questions yet again (apparently they had no record of my previous online chat history with them). I realized quickly that you get a new representative every time you write them an email (even on the same thread), so I called them (another stupid mistake of mine...). I spent 55 minutes(!) on the phone with a representative, who eventually told me that I would need to wait at least 3 weeks for a replacement part. 3 weeks - even though Dyson is happily selling tons of V12 online with plenty in stock! This is ridiculous and in my mind a clear case of fraud. The fact that they do not have replacement parts (in my case it is the main unit) means that this is a common issue for this device. And yet they happily sell those parts to new customers, instead of replacing the broken parts of existing customers. After a while, I was able to convince the representative on the phone to send me a completely new vacuum cleaner, in order to finally have a working vacuum cleaner again in less than 3 weeks. She told me that I will receive a new vacuum within the next few days, and I should just ship back my existing broken vacuum afterwards. I waited... After 2 weeks, I called them again. I was told that the previous representative made a mistake with my return order, but the person promised that he fixed the issue, and I should finally receive a new vacuum within the next 10 business days. I waited again... After another 14 business days (today), I called them again, since the replacement unit of course never arrived. After taking my return order number, the person on the phone said "I will look into it now", and hung up!! I am so upset about spending so much money on a Dyson product! As a hardware engineer myself, I know that things break, even after a short amount of time. I fully understand and respect that. But the fact that Dyson's customer service is so extremely unprofessional and incompetent is really frustrating. I thought that I bought a high quality product, that also comes with good customer service, but I guess I was wrong. Very wrong! Dyson for sure lost a customer today. And please, let this be a warning to you: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, OR ANYTHING ELSE FROM DYSON! ... show more

  • WOW!
I was thrilled 15 years ago to move to a condo that had a central vac system - a great upgrade from hauling an electric vacuum around the house. But, even hauling the long central vac hose around the house and using the supplied attachments to vacuum rugs left my back aching and I put off vacuuming for....well, weeks, before I could get the energy up to do it again. The vacuuming was made worse by having 2 pets in the house and the hair that they routinely shed! I purchased my 1st cordless stick vacuum from Amazon in December 2022. I bought it because of a combination of low price and good reviews. After using it a few times, I decided that it was a glorified broom and really wasn't up to the job of handling my carpets easily. I was disappointed with it since it meant that I would still have to use the central vac system for my rugs [groan]. Then I saw a video demonstration of this Dyson V12 and was impressed with what I saw. Using credit card points as a credit towards its purchase, the price was just right. I can't believe the difference between the 2 stick vacuums! The Dyson has a number of attachments included and the 2 large ones that I have used (they easily snap in and out) have handled my pet hair filled hard floors and carpets with ease. And, the thing I love the most is that the cannister collecting the debris is cleaned by depressing a lever over a waste basket. Easy peasey! The vacuum is very light weight, moves easily forward, sideways, under things, and doesn't cause ANY stress on my back! It's compact enough that I can just leave it next to my kitchen counter and use it whenever I want. So far, I love it! CON: It is advertised as lasting 60 minutes. That might be true when using one of the small attachments, but when using either of the 2 largest attachments the display on the vacuum (another great feature!) STARTs with the remaining battery life of 30 minutes. However, that is easily enough time to vacuum the space I have. If I had a larger area, I could just buy another battery and cycle them to get the time I need. UPDATE, Dec 2024: Now that I have been using my Dyson for a while, there is one general improvement I'd like to see. I'd like to be EASILY able to clean the interior parts of the Dyson which get clogged with very fine dust. Right now, I have to tape the top unit of the machine against something hard in order to dislodge a lot of dust, but it still doesn't feel clean to me. ... show more

  • Too hard to take the attachments off!
This is a good, light, cordless vacuum, but I took off a star because I've found the attachments VERY hard to remove when there's a jam or a clog -- and that's often. We have a dog that sheds a lot and we live on a busy street where the cars throw up a lot of dust, and I never run through a whole charge without having to stop at least once, remove an attachment, and clean it out. Why must I be Superman just to take an attachment off? The connections are way too tight. I'd use it much more often if it weren't so hard to change the attachments. Other than that, this vacuum is lightweight, durable, and effective. ... show more

  • Love love love it!
I put off getting this for years because of the price. But after I went through two cheaper ones within a few years largely due to my dog shedding enough fur to make another dog every week, I decided to buy this one when it went on sale. WOW! The difference in quality between the Dyson and the cheaper brands I’ve owned is immediately noticeable. To test this Dyson, I vacuumed over carpet I’d just vacuumed with my old cordless one. I was blown away with (and kinda disgusted by) how much the Dyson was able to pick up after my old vacuum stopped picking up anything. This Dyson picked up SO much dust, small particles of God knows what, and dog hair that my old vacuums had left apparently for years. The modes and different attachments are great. The high mode on carpet is so strong that it almost sticks to the carpet, which sucks up so much crud deep in the carpet. I really like the light on the hardwood floor attachment. Even with a brightly lit room, fine dust and dirt wouldn’t be noticeable without it. The only cons are a small bin that may need to be emptied a few times and a battery life that may not be enough if you were vacuuming a larger house on high mode. But these both are manageable. And the smaller bin is a bit of a plus because it makes the vacuum size smaller, which I like. If this can fit in your budget and if this vacuum size works for you, I’d absolutely recommend this vacuum. I got it on a Black Friday sale, which was a good bit cheaper (I think $100 off?). If you can hold out until sales like this, you might be able to get one at a good discount too. ... show more
