I have had a Dyson since 2014. It has held up so well but a piece broke and when I went to have it repaired it was going to cost $150. So, I debated it but I decided to just buy a new one. I love it! It’s a little lighter than my previous model which is nice. I love the newest features like a couch cleaning head and dog brush but I especially love the 3 options to get closer suction on hardwood floors or move it to rugs or carpet. All the pieces are easily interchangeable and that is priceless. I do wish Dyson would make a cord that was retractable but overall, I’m very happy with my purchase.

My main priority when it comes to a vacuum is hair pickup. Between long hair and general everyday shedding, I need something that can actually pull hair out of carpet instead of just picking up whatever is sitting on the surface. This has been excellent for that. The suction is extremely strong and I was honestly surprised by how much hair it picked up the first time I used it, especially considering the carpet had already been vacuumed recently. The cleaner head does a really good job getting hair that has worked its way into the carpet fibers. That is probably the biggest difference I notice compared to lighter cordless vacuums I’ve used. Those are convenient for quick cleaning, but this feels much more like a deep clean. After going over a room, I can actually see the difference in the carpet. I was also concerned about hair constantly wrapping around the brush because that is one of my biggest annoyances with vacuums. So far, it handles hair much better than most vacuums I’ve used. I’m not having to stop constantly and cut huge amounts of hair off the roller, which alone makes it much more convenient for me. The suction is powerful enough that you can definitely feel some resistance on thicker carpet and certain rugs. This also isn’t a lightweight vacuum. There is some weight behind it when you’re pushing it around, although the ball design makes turning around furniture and corners much easier than I expected. Personally, I’m willing to deal with the extra weight because the cleaning performance is noticeably better. I also like having adjustable settings for different flooring. It works well on hard floors for picking up loose hair and debris, but carpet is where I think it really shines. The attachments are useful for getting hair off furniture, stairs and other areas where the main cleaner head can’t reach. The hose has plenty of reach, although it does have some tension when you first start pulling it out. Another thing I appreciate is that it’s corded. A cordless vacuum is obviously easier to grab for a quick cleanup, but I don’t have to worry about battery life decreasing over time or the vacuum dying halfway through cleaning. I can take my time and the suction stays consistently strong. The bin is easy to empty and holds a decent amount, which matters when you’re picking up a lot of hair. The vacuum itself feels sturdy and durable, although it is fairly bulky and takes up more storage space than a stick vacuum. Overall, if hair pickup is your main concern, this is where I think the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra is worth it. It’s not the lightest or most compact vacuum, but I would rather have something slightly heavier that actually gets the hair out of my carpet. The suction, carpet performance and ability to handle a lot of hair are easily my favorite things about it.

WORST VACUUM I’VE EVER OWNED!!! 👎 I don’t know what Dyson was thinking making the heaviest and loudest vacuum ever!!! Its suction is incredible and it definitely picks up but you pay a price for all that suction power. It’s an absolute workout cleaning my house. I have various area rugs and some of them take literally two hands to push this monstrosity across the carpet. I absolutely dread getting this thing out. My husband paid over $400 for it so I’m likely stuck with it for awhile. And don’t get me started on what a pain in the ass it is to get to the tool hose. Worst design…. It’s laughable. You can’t even stretch out the hose to get any length as it just sucks back in. ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS POS

This review is for Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra Corded Vacuum. This product has its pros and its cons, but the pros far outweigh the cons, so much that I consider this a 5 star product. I ordered this to surprise my parents. I knew they had their eyes on another Dyson so figured I'd order this for them to ultimately use. However, it is HEAVY. Knowing that, this might not be the best product for some people. I vacuumed the top level of their house with this and my arm was pretty tired by the end of it. However with this weight comes the biggest benefit - pure power. This thing sucked up what must've been years worth of dirt in their carpets, just in the first pass. I rolled it across a 3 foot path initially and could already see the dirt it sucked up. The canister was filled to max capacity by the time I was finished with their top floor. They do have vacuums that they run frequently (one older model, battery powered Dyson and a robotic vacuum); they just ran the smaller Dyson a few days prior, so it's not that they don't vacuum. This Animal 3 just reaches dirt that those less powerful vacuums don't stand a chance of pulling up. I honestly should’ve taken a photo of the dirty canister before I cleaned it out just to show how much dirt this picked up on one pass through one floor. The other negative is the included instructions. They were of very little help. I figured some items out by myself and had to search online for videos on how to attach the others. (I would recommend this route). I do wish the instructions were more thorough. Once the initial basic items were set up, however, the attachments are pretty intuitive to figure out. The canister is incredibly easy to empty - you just push a button and the bottom door flies open. So easy and cuts down on messes. Also, this item is designed to not allow long hair to get caught, and it delivers by leaps and bounds on this. I didn't have to cut hair out of any part when cleaning the canister. The hose attachment is really helpful - the wand you can attach to that fits into small nooks and crannies and gets out dirt that other tools could not. However, the hose has a tendency to want to shrink back into the vacuum, so it's a bit cumbersome to use. I'd recommend having someone else hold the vacuum stationary when you're using the hose so it doesn't roll around if this is a possibility. Again, this item does have its drawbacks (weight and lack of instructions), but there is no denying how powerful this vacuum is. If you want a deep clean, this is a truly incredible option.

I am disappointed that this is likely my last Dyson purchase. I loved my first Dyson vac and it worked for about 11 years before the power nozzle stopped working. Rather than replace the power nozzle (which is not cheap), i figured i'd "upgrade" to this. It is a truly horrible machine. The only thing it has is suction. The first one i got was defective and DOA. I brought it back. I got a replacement unit which worked for a short while before it did the exact same thing the one i returned was doing (the power head does not stay on). I am reluctant to submit the warranty claim because Dyson has horrible customer service and i know the new one will not work for long either. This is 2 of 2 which has not worked. It also is terribly heavy and awkward, and the hose does not stretch (if you try to use any of the hose attachments, the entire vac falls on the floor and you have to drag it on its side). Most of the unit is made from cheap, brittle plastic. However the actual suction is good, but i believe that is why the power head falls off. It has greater suction than the cheap garbage plastic body can withstand. Really poor quality. I have been using a relatively inexpensive Shark stick vac without a power nozzle while i decide what to do. On a relatively new Dyson, i 'should' make them cover it but i have very little faith in them and might just lose the money and buy a different brand.

I’ve had an older Dyson for a very long time, and it finally needed replacing. After using the Ball Animal 3 Extra, I can say Dyson didn’t reinvent the wheel here — but honestly, if it ain’t broke, they didn’t fix it. A lot feels familiar, but there are definitely some changes, some I really like and a few I’m not as fond of. First, the build. I can’t speak to long‑term durability yet, but the plastic on this model is noticeably thinner and less rugged than the older Dysons. I’m assuming this is intentional to make the unit lighter, and it is easier to maneuver, but I do hope it holds up as well as my old tank of a vacuum. Now the suction… AMAZING. Either it’s been too long since I upgraded or they seriously boosted the power, because my rugs look completely different after vacuuming. The fibers actually lift and look refreshed, like they’ve been properly deep‑cleaned. My old Dyson never left visible “vacuum lines,” and this one absolutely does — in a good way. The cord is another huge improvement. I can vacuum the entire floor of my house without switching outlets. My older model always needed a plug change when I reached the back bedroom, which was annoying. This one reaches everywhere. The tangle‑free brush bar is a lifesaver. I’ve had other vacuums with this feature, and it’s one of my favorites — barely any pet hair wraps around the brush, which is a massive upgrade from the older models where I constantly had to cut hair out. Because the suction is so strong, you do need to adjust the slider on the front of the cleaner head for certain rugs. On a couple of my area rugs, the suction was so intense the rug wanted to move while the vacuum didn’t. Once adjusted, it’s fine, but it’s something to be aware of. The Ball technology makes turning super easy, but it does make it harder to get under low furniture like chairs. Trade‑offs. The attachments are great — especially the specialized pet tools — but my favorite is still the main crevice tool on the side of the unit. It gets into corners and tight spots really well. I’m still getting used to switching from vacuum to wand mode, though. It’s a little more cumbersome than my old one, and the hose isn’t as flexible or long as I’d prefer. Overall, it’s a decent vacuum with phenomenal suction, excellent pet‑hair performance, and a few quirks. It’s definitely on the expensive side for what it is, but the 5‑year warranty gives me peace of mind when spending that kind of money. And when it comes to pet hair, this thing is an absolute monster.

This vacuum is fantastic! It has strong suction and picks up dirt, dust, and pet hair from my carpets and hard floors with ease. The ball design makes it simple to steer around furniture and tight corners, so cleaning goes much faster than it did with my old vacuum. My floors look and feel noticeably cleaner after just one pass. However, this vacuum is HEAVY. I guess I'm used to my stick vacuums but this thing is definitely a tank as far as weight goes. It comes with handy attachments that make it easy to clean stairs, upholstery, and hard to reach spots. Being corded means I never worry about battery life, so I can clean the whole house without stopping. It feels solid and well built, and I am so happy with how well it works. I would highly recommend it!
