  • Ok once it works
Style: XP650WP
Hard to get is started, and sometimes the motor runs but no suction because the valve does not open. But once it is running it is very powerful

  • DuroMax 3" Gas Pump
Style: XP650WP
Saved me thousands of dollars. Storm Sandy flooded my Dad's basement on Long Island. The disaster recovery companies, "thieves", were charging $2500 - $3400 for pump out. With no experience I ordered this pump and appropriate hoses. It was unbelievable! In 45 minutes it pumped out 30" of water in a full basement. A big caution: You can not run the generator dry. Also, priming the pump proved easy, but the procedure was not described in the manual for applications requiring big suction side lifting. The manual indicated that the only necessary priming is to pour a limited amount of water into the pump body through a plug on top of the pump. This is probably not adequate if you need to suck up a significant lift such as 6 feet down a basement. I was advised by someone with a lot of experiences to fill up the entire discharge hose if possible, and possibly part of the suction side, in addition to the pump body as indicated in the manual. Once you get a big column of water moving on the discharge side, the resultant vacuum will pull the water up into the pump on the suction side. Use the water in the discharge side hose to keep the pump full and wet while you wait for the pump "to catch". It took close to a minute, but man did it pump. Worked first try. For this reason you probably need a long discharge hose to prime the pump effectively for a long suction lift. I imagine many people think that they can skip buying a discharge hose. This would be a mistake. If you only need to lift a couple feet then no discharge hose is probably necessary. I bought a hose kit with 20 ft suction and 25 ft discharge. I followed the advice above and it worked great! I will say that the required massive and stiff 3" suction hose is awkward to handle, and it was a bit of overkill. The pump became useless at about 3" of remaining depth. It just sucked a hole in the water and sucked mostly air. A pool cover pump loaned to me was able to suck the floor nearly dry, less than 1/4". The sump pumps seemed to require at least 1.5 inches of water to operate. I am no expert, but I had great results with this gas pump and I think above advice is accurate. ... show more

  • Great pump for the price
Style: XP650WP
This pump works very well for my requirement. I'm pumping out a loading dock that holds about 13,000 gallons when it fills up during many of SW Florida's torrential rains in the summer months, and the occasional long-lasting storm system like we had here last week. The pump description doesn't mention that it comes with 25' of discharge hose, so keep that in mind when buying your accessories. You should also get a suction hose and likely a strainer, as the discharge hose is not meant for the suction part of the pumping process. I purchased Eagle Part#A007-TSCHOSEKIT3. The aforementioned kit has the solid, 3" suction hose and strainer that you need to suck the water out of where you want to remove it from, and it has 50' of 3" discharge hose. I also bought a third section of 50' hose, which allows me to discharge the water into our retention pond, which is over 125' from the loading dock. I ran the pump for 20 minutes, which removed a third of the water from the dock, and confirms the pump's rated capacity of 220 gpm, which should pump out my dock in about an hour. I removed two stars from my rating, because the petcock valve assembly on the bottom of the fuel tank was installed too close the the starter cord housing, and this close proximity and the vibration of the pump created a hole in the fuel hose during the 20-minutes of running. I used a wrench to adjust the angle of the valve, and I'll replace the fuel hose and lousy factory clamps with good quality hose and real hose clamps. Additionally, the unit was missing two bolts that bolt the pump to the tubular frame. These missing bolts allowed the machine to vibrate like crazy. The two bolts that were in place were not torqued properly, and were loose. In fact, I found the nut for one of the bolts lying by the loading dock. I have to get two more bolts and some Nyloc nuts to bolt this thing down and prevent any further loosening. The vibration also caused a fuel tank mounting bolt to come loose, which I also found on the loading dock. I replaced all the missing/loose bolts with Locktite and Nyloc nuts, and everything is staying where it should. Even with the poor attention to detail, this pump and the accessories gives me a less than $500 solution to an on-going water problem, and I am certain it will keep my loading dock up and running until I can make some permanent improvements to the dock and drainage system. ... show more

  • Good pump for this amount of money
Style: XP650WP
I rated it a 4 with some reservations. Quality ok but not great plastic choke piece had to be persuaded to apply choke after 3 or 4 starts. bolts on frame came unfastened then frame cracked completely . Then the motor seized with nothing but water in the crankcase which I assume was from a seal around output shaft leaking. all this being said, Performed the recommended maintenance and ran the pump about 15 days straight 24 hours a day just stopping long enough to add fuel and change oil. Thats over 300 hours similar to driving a car 20,000 highway miles or about 75 cents an hour which would have been worth it. Since it was within 30 days of purchase Amazon replaced without cost to me. Still I would be upset if they didn't and also bought hose kit which would have become worthless. Also plus this motor started first pull every time unless I forgot to choke it. Its definitely not a commercial rig but would have cost me $150 a day or $450 a week to rent $900 for the two weeks that i used this one and I only paid $220 a good deal in my book. This pumps moves a lot more water than you might think ,it would lower a one acre body of water about a foot a 24 hour day. I only primed it once even when motor ran out of gas it held prime in suction hose.If you need it to empty a basement or swimming pool or similar need it serves the purpose well. You may want to use pvc pipe instead of the expensive hose if not pumping very far especially on suction side. Hope this helps Hope this info helps you Hope this helps ... show more
