  • Best thing I bought this year!!
Color: Cream
I saved and researched and fretted over buying this. I am so glad I chose this one. I love it. It’s beautiful, easy to use, and the flames are so realistic. I really like having the controller to turn it on. It’s the tiny focal point of my tiny apt living room. The ambiance is great. The heating is just okay. I wish it was more adjustable, but you just have on or off and maintain to a set temperature. That being said, it does put out some heat. ... show more

  • Spoiler alert: this heater is TOTALLY SWEET, buy it!
Color: Black
I am totally in love with this fireplace heater! I bought it two weeks ago but it was out of stock so only arrived five days ago. Even though it's been cold I was willing to wait because I just loved the look of this one and I'm so glad I did. Between the metal construction, the beveled glass and the 3D flame effect the quality of this heater is very high, especially for the price. The unit is sturdy but not so heavy that you couldn't move it to another room if you wanted (though I wouldn't want to be constantly moving it from room to room either, this should probably have one specific spot but you could change it up occasionally). The legs are plastic which helps keep the weight down. But since the majority of the body is metal it really gives that legitimate old fashioned stove fireplace feel which I love. A plastic body wouldn't have had the same effect. The beveled glass on the operable door and the glass on the sides also both add to that realistic feel. I think the beveling, because it's between you and the flame effect, heightens the realism because it distorts the light somewhat. And of course it's a higher end kind of detail that makes this heater look and feel more expensive than it was. The side glass offers a great glimpse of the flame effects from any angle and keeps it from looking like a big "fire box" and more like a focal point for a room. As for the actual flame effects, they're certainly the best I've seen in a fireplace heater of this type. The flames in the back leap high on the brick patterned background - another great touch - while the ones in the front seem to lick at the logs, just the way a real fire would. One of my neighbors on first seeing it thought it was a real fire and yelled at me for having something so dangerous inside. Obviously if you look at it for a minute you'll realize it isn't actually burning, but it still makes my living room feel very cozy. I've used the flame effects every night while reading and relaxing whether I wanted to have the heater running or not. The heater itself is also very good, if you know what to expect. I live in Southern California and purchased this as my sole form of heat, which really isn't what it's for. It's meant to supplement your central heat or furnace, and it's really not great at raising the temperature from a very low point. If your room is already cold, it will eventually heat it to a warm temperature but it will take forever. But again, that really isn't what this product is for. In my experience, by turning the heater on before I really NEED it, it easily maintains warmth even as it gets cold outside. I definitely wouldn't try to use this as your only form of heat anywhere with actual weather. But I think it would be an admirable supplement in any part of the country, and for areas like mine where cold is relative it's perfect. I've used it in my 250 sq ft living room and it's helped maintain a temperature of 71 degrees F when it was 58 degrees outside (yes, that is cold to me). I also love that the heat is infrared. We don't usually have high humidity here in SoCal, so other kinds of heat really suck the moisture out of the air and wreak havoc on my skin and hair. Infrared heat works differently and doesn't affect the humidity at all, keeping me much more comfortable. If you live in a place where it's cold but humid at the same time (does such a place exist?) you might prefer a different kind of heat that will actually lessen the humidity. Other great features include the thermostat, which you can set from 68 to 82 degrees F in increments of two. Based on the weather station I have in my living room, it's pretty accurate about turning on and off at the temperature you set it to. If you set the thermostat and turn it on just as it's starting to get dark, the heater will keep you toasty all night :) There's also a timer you can set which works both with the heater on and if you're just using the fire effects. Basically, this heater is awesome, and an awesome deal. Based on my extensive research, similarly equipped heaters tend to run around $250 if not more, and the flame effects aren't nearly as nice. So stop thinking about it and just buy it already! I love it so much I bought a second for my dad, to keep him warm and remind him of his cabin :) He loves it and says it adds life to his apartment. Awesome purchase. ... show more

  • Wow! Whata' Heater!
Color: French Gray
I'm usually not too impressed by things anymore with such high prices and lack of quality control, but this little heater deserved a shout out because it works! I have a small room (150-200 square feet) off the garage where I do pottery and it's really a cold place to work. I checked out infrared heaters and the Duraflame had the best positive reviews. I ordered one in cinnamon for over $200 and it was never sent after 2 weeks. I cancelled the order and noticed the heaters were on sale so I ordered another one for $149 in grey. Not really my color choice but I wanted heat, not a pretty color to keep me warm (the cinnamon color went up to $249). The heater arrived after a few days, we put it together, and Wow! instant heat. My little room was so toasty at the 82 degree setting that I had to turn it down. Assembly was easy and the flame looks nice, but the main point is the infrared heater actually heats the room up. I'm a happy potter now with a warm room to hang out in! This is a great little heater for a good price. ... show more

  • Good -- just a few cheap steps from being great.
Color: Black
I've been jonesing for a fireplace at the edge of SF by the cold misty ocean so whenI discovered these I was intrigued and did a lot of due research and out of all the stand-up electric fireplaces this is always at the top. So I took the plunge and ordered the black model and it arrived so here are my list thoughts to help people decide and fill in some detailed blanks from other reviews: 1. As many state, the legs are too cheap and don't screw in all that easy. I used an electric screwdriver. This could easily be better fitted and designed. Why not just have the legs be connected to the bottom and just pop out? 2. The remote is fine for on/off and powering through but without any visible display you have to guess and still change the heat with the display button. It should be dimly lit at the least so you can see them. I don't mind opening the gate to keep the front free of electronics but the remote could do all this. 3. For my apartment and living room, this provides a nice toasty heat and ambience. It won't replace the home heater but sitting on a chair or couch nearby, it works well. A guest fell asleep on the couch during a movie last night because he was so cozy he said. I haven't even turned it up past 74 so I imagine it can get warmer. 4. I was worried about the fan sound but it's as quiet as it could be and with other noise you won't hear it. I suggest a crackling fire sound to override. 5. I wish it had a crackling fire sound built within... 6. The 3D flame effect is nice as as faux natural as it could be. They could have used way more creativity on the log and wall design (paint the bricks red or something!) but I really liked the other smaller Duraflame models with a more red ember base. I also wish the 3D flame was designed so it wasn't a loop pattern but free form. A touch of red in the flame would be nice as used in other models. 7. The base and glass gate are nicely constructed. It looks good. 8. Overall, I actually really like this and it wasn't so expensive I can't get another model down the road or regret buying this. It warms me in the chair by a misty window as I read and listen to music or watch a movie and I can buy the illusion, plus it is eco-friendly. 9. WARNING: Plug this into your wall socket or it likely will shut off your power. I tried on a super powerful outlet with only the Duraflame plugged in and pop went my circuits. So keep it in one wall socket! 10. Flame on! ... show more
