I bought this product in November of 2019. (Note: It is now February 2026 and I still stand by my review) I have enjoyed this product so much. It heats nicely, however, I didn't really buy it for heat, but have used it to supplement on some really cold days over the years. I would not recommend this product as a MAIN heat source as this or any other stove of this class, in my opinion, is not built in such a way to be anything other than a decorative and an occasional, supplemental, and attended heat source. I have had a real cast iron stove (vermont castings with the fire glass window) a wee bit bigger than this, and I missed just seeing the flame after I moved. The flame is nicely realistic. This runs LEDs for realistic flames display. I put it away in the summer in a closet and cover it to keep the dust off and remove the battery from the remote and place the remote inside on the logs when stored. I pull it out in October, put a battery into the remote and turn it on ( the LED fire lights) and it still is like new. I run lights mostly all fall and winter, until spring warmth during the waking hours. My dog actually likes to lay in front of it. All that is to say, I have never regretted this purchase. It warms the “feel and look” of any room it is placed in. It has been a great product these five years. I am of the opinion you get what you pay for with these stoves. (Also, an important feature I wanted was the vent to be on the TOP not the bottom, which five years ago when I bought my stove this was only one of maybe 2 or 3 models that offered the top vent in any brand). This product has the top vent, and it is vented on the ends as well. When the heat runs, the stove body does not get hot, but the air blowing from the vent is , so if you have toddlers, you would want to ensure the front vent heat blowing out doesn't blow into their eyes….I have used a screen when necessary with visitors with small children. Be sure to plug into the wall socket direct, not through a power/surge protector strip. The stove I have does not have a grounded plug so I do occasionally touch the cord at the back to check the cord heat if I run the heater portion for a while, which could be a little and barely warm, but not hot. BEFORE I bought this Duraflame stove product, I had purchased a much cheaper one. The vent was on the bottom of this cheaper stove, and when I did run the heat, which was not often, it delaminated a soft-lay laminate floor in front of the vent which was on the bottom front. When I noticed it, I didn't have my remote handy and just unplugged it, the cord and plug was very hot, so I cut the cord off even at the back of the stove and disposed of the unit. No more cheap stoves for me as this was an alarming experience, as well as a developing hazard and no matter the brand, I will always monitor the cord and the product for safety due to my own personal experience. All in all, This Duraflame stove, again has been a very, very nice product, and I have not had any problems with my unit and I am happy to give it a great review. Edit 2026: I came back to say 7 years and still going, and Im starting a new season. I run my lights most days all winter and after 7 years, my stove and its lights still run and looks great! ... show more

Phenomenal heater to invest in!

I have four of these now. I bought one in November 2019, one in December 2019, one in September 2021, and my fourth in January 2026. The first three I bought were black, and the new one I just got is cinnamon color. The one thing they all have in common? — They all still work, and heat very very well, as good as the day I bought them. The thermostat is very finicky with fluctuations. 74 may be way too hot, or leave the room cold. So I do have to adjust the thermostat frequently. The remote has a setting to switch the heating off (temp then reads 00), and then back on with another push. So you can run it a little high and just turn it to inactive if you get too hot. But I don’t even care. Because they heat exceedingly well even after over 6 years with the oldest. Other heaters we have owned from other brands in the past have all burned out and quit heating after a while, and they’ve had to be junked. Not these. I have slowly invested in the ones I have to heat the various areas of my house, and they are what I consider an investment. They are also very safe and operate well, so long as you plug them into their own dedicated outlet. Do not use an extension cord or plug them into any sort of splitter or otherwise unit that plugs into the outlet itself. Plug it directly into an outlet of its own and make sure nothing else shares the same breaker, to be safe. From what I read, they pull 1500W when heating. They’re costly at around $260 currently plus tax, but as I said, it’s an investment. They heat a fairly large area very comfortably and quickly. I kind of wish I’d invested in some colored options sooner, because the new cinnamon one I got is gorgeous! Love the richness of the color. Spend the money; you won’t regret it! It works well, the flame effect is very pretty, and they have no unpleasant smells or odors, unlike other heaters that can smell like plastic burning. BONUS: My cat loves sleeping on top of it. She has done so for years and has never been harmed by it. It’s warm on top but not unbearably so. So if your pets love it, do not be alarmed! ... show more

This Duraflame electric fireplace has quickly become one of my favorite home purchases. The 3D flame effect looks incredibly realistic and adds a warm, cozy atmosphere to any space. I love that the flame can be used with or without heat, so it’s perfect year-round. The heat output is excellent, easily warming my large living area. The heating unit runs quietly, so it’s never distracting. One small drawback is that the temperature adjustment can only be done directly on the heater, not from the remote. The remote also responds a bit slowly, but it still gets the job done for basic on/off and flame controls. Another big plus is that the top of the stove doesn’t get hot, which makes it safe around pets and children. Great value and SO SO Pretty and Real with Max Heat Output

I own three of these and have bought more as gifts, including a couple for my mom. That should tell you everything. There is no better value out there for a combination heater and electric fireplace this beautiful. The flame effect creates such a warm, cozy mood, and everyone who visits goes crazy over them. Some of mine are going on three years old and still work perfectly. The thermostat works beautifully. From the first night it dips into the low 50s until spring, I run them pretty much all my waking hours, and they've held up every season. Anyone who knows me knows I love stuff and things, and I have a LOT of stuff and things. These are at the very top of my list. Honestly one of the best buys of my life. Great little electric fireplace for the price

I am so thrilled with this little fireplace. We live in a senior apartment community where fireplaces in apartments are prohibited. However, I got approval to have this one because the heating element distributes heat mainly through the front and a bit from the sides - but not at all from the back. Therefore, it could be placed only about 4 - 5 inches from woodwork, etc. It arrived well packed and the only assembly was attaching the legs, which was easy. (If two 76 year olds can doit, so can you!) It looks terrific. I got the light gray, which looks wonderful with our decor. It was pretty easy to learn to use. I had a little trouble figuring how to turn off the heater, but I have it now. It's a slow double click while pointing the remote at the center top of the unit (where the heater resides). We bought this duraflame electric fireplace almost a year ago and it gets used for 6 months out of the year. I enjoy the remote and easy settings. You can run it on flame only no heat or with a click turn on the heat. You can adjust the flame level which is nice and on a 1 to 10 scale being lifelike I would give it a 8.5 (if you could hear the fire crackle that would bring it up) assembly was easy, unbox and plug it in pretty much. Solid metal cabinet not to light nor to heavy. The glass door does open and you also have touch controls in the front behind the door. You can view the fire from the front and sides. It's very relaxing and enjoyable to watch. Great value for the quality of the product. No complaints here ... show more

Ambiance/Realistic Flame

What a lovely unit! Easy to put together. I shopped around for a few days. Others seemed not as nice. The side glass is great, maxes flames views. The flame is very impressive. The heater at 5200 btu is as well, although not why I purchased it. We live in a 4 season state, and it adds such ambiance to our home. Looks like a wood stove without the mess or worry. Very well done. If you have an apartment, condo and miss a fireplace, this is for you. ... show more

Very Impressive

I have a 3-story, 125 year-old house, and for 5 years I used a similar Lowes-branded heater as my primary source of heat in my office on the 1st floor. There is a curtain separating the middle room from the front room. The middle room is open to the kitchen in the rear of the house. I have insulated curtains in all my rooms. The house has blown-in insulation. I have a smaller heating unit in my 2nd floor bathroom, and bedroom, that I use as needed. The apparel of choice is insulated sweatpants, and an insulated hoodie. This has worked well, except for periods we are experiencing a polar vortex. I have a thermometer down in the basement, and if it ever threatens to dip to freezing- the furnace goes on. I made a preemptory strike and switched out my unit with the same type, as I bought 2 at the same time. Since I like to keep a spare on-hand, just-in-case- the unit I have is no longer made; but there is a similar unit with the same specs at the same price, which had a lot of bad reviews, and I didn't want to take a chance on getting a lower quality unit. So, I began looking for another unit. It had to be at least 5100 BTUs (which is supposed to heat 1,000 sq ft), and have a standard 2-prong cord. I found this Duraflame unit which seemed to fit the bill, and with the recognizable name, I felt confident it would satisfy my needs. It's supposed to be 5200 BTUs, so it may be a tad more effective. It's bigger and more robust than what I have, so it looks nicer. In addition, the digital readout, and remote control are things I didn't have before. The heating element is bigger, and the fan is more effective. I can't really test it because it is June, so I will update this Review if it doesn't perform as expected. However, I will say that the flame effect is not very realistic compared to what I have, but it does set a mood. Here's a tip, don't use it all the time, because the lighting will eventually burn out, and/or the generator drive motor making the flames move will wear-out and need to be replaced. The motor can be replaced, I don't know about the lighting, as the manual doesn't specify. Either way, it will be a pain in the buttocks. So, activate the flame feature sparingly. I'm happy with the purchase, I believe it will work well when I eventually have to use it. And if it does perform as promised, I will buy another. ... show more
