  • Major upgrade from Roomba 600 series (UPDATED REVIEW)
UPDATE: Just wanted to update this review after ~6 months from my original review. The Dreame app tells me I've used the vacuum 214 times and for ~33 total hours. Just wanted to say how impressed I still am. I ordered an accessories kit that provides new filters, brushes, and mop pads (I really only wanted more mop pads). I use this robot nearly daily to both vacuum & mop. When it comes time to get a new robot vacuum, I guarantee you that I'll be looking at both Dreame & Roborock (both owned by Xiaomi) because I'm that impressed. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Upgraded from an ~15 year old Roomba 600 series and was skeptical. This device is a significant upgrade in almost every way. The Dreametech's lidar capability is a game-changer. It accurately maps the home, allows you to setup individual rooms, no-go zones, etc. All of this works fabulously well. For example, I have an elevated water bowl for my dog in my kitchen. Instead of the Dreametech attempting to vacuum/mop near it, I just set up a no-go zone in that tiny area and the D9 just works around it. Because the device maps your home, it is very thorough because it knows the entire floor plan. The ability to use the app to start cleaning has, likewise, been a game-changer. I'm able to send the D9 to vacuum a specific bedroom or hallway--I've literally done this while at a stop-light on my way home. The app actually allows you to track/"see" the D9's location as it is working so if (for example) it does get stuck under a bed or something, you can just look at the app and see where it is. As to vacuum performance, it works great as long as you use it frequently to maintain cleanliness. If you have a particularly filthy situation, I'd probably use a traditional vacuum, but the D9 is so user-friendly that there's no real reason not to use it every 2 or 3 days. One reason I chose the D9 was because it had a mop feature. I was VERY skeptical. I have white tile in my kitchen and bathroom and an English Bulldog who drools and always has dirty feet that leave black marks. The D9 does a phenomenal job mopping my kitchen & bathroom. I just fill the tank with HOT water, dampen the mop pad and set it loose. It is so easy I now mop every other day. Again, if you start out with a particularly dirty floor, you shouldn't expect the D9 to scrub it. But for "normal" mopping, it works fantastic for me. Here's what I don't like--the D9 is supposed to work with Alexa/Google Home. As of 12/7/22 it absolutely does not, and it is impossible to set up on either platform (I have both). My home has a lot of hand-made rugs from Iran, Turkiye, and Afghanistan and the D9 will get hung up on the fringes of some rugs. My Roomba handled them better, but my Roomba also was known to tear off the fringes and get them wrapped around the brushes requiring maintenance after almost every use. So far the D9 has not done that--it merely gets stuck and turns off. If you're on an ancient Roomba like I was, then I 100% recommend the D9--it is a major upgrade. I'm sure there are better robot vacuums than the D9, but I am (so far) extremely happy with the device. It has made my life a LOT better and it keeps my home much cleaner than I am able to achieve with a traditional vacuum. I would never vacuum or mop my house with a traditional vacuum/mop on a daily basis--but the D9 really does make it easy to do just that. ... show more

  • New multi-level function!
Bought this last November, after six months, finally I’ll say I’m satisfied after the last firmware update and now it can do multi floors! Pros: great suction power; impressive maneuverability; does not fall off stair; easy-to-use app; long cleaning time; auto return to charge after cleaning or when running out of power; came with water tank and mopping pads; useful virtual wall and no-mopping zone; decent noise level; ability to schedule cleaning at different time for different rooms; spot cleaning function; auto change to turbo mode on carpet (needs to turn on the setting); newly added multi-floor map function with the latest firmware update (up to 3 maps); and very reasonably price compared to some expensive brands with similar functions! Cons: did not have multi-level function as advertised at beginning (this was finally fixed in the last firmware update (6 months after I bought it); the noise level isn’t as bad as my dyson animal, but I wouldn’t say it’s quiet (standard mode), you can hear conversations but need to speak up a little; doesn’t automatically steer away from carpet when mopping, you have to setup no-mopping zone (I feel if it can turn itself to turbo mode on carpet it should be able to detect carpet and avoid it when mopping, but I’m not an engineer); it used to get stuck on a lounge chair’s u-shape leg as it tried to climb over it, but it seems to have learned the lesson overtime, it has not stuck on it recent couple months; from time to time it will give internal error half way during a cleaning, took me a while but I finally figured out I need to wipe the sensor clean and detangle the hair on brush, so I guess it was a human error, but I wish it would give a little more information on how to solve the issue instead of only shows internal error; it does pick up a lot hair/fur on the carpet but not all of them (I have a dog that sheds a lot on a daily basis); the mopping function is useful, but it is not enough to clean dirty water stains; in order for multi-level function to work, you have to manually switch the map, I hope they can improve this so the robot can auto switch map after first time. Overall, I love my robot. For all the great functions it has, I’m willing to overlook the few shortcomings. Now I really just set the schedules and let it do its thing, except when I have to physically move it to another level. Update: after about 7 months of use, the robot got malfunction, it would not clean or return to the dock due to an internal error, it said to clean the main brush even though the main brush was new or even when I completely remove the brush. I emailed the customer service and was informed that their repair center was about to open couple month later. Although I had to wait couple months, but eventually when it opened, they did “repaired” my vacuum for free, “repaired” is on quote because I think I got another refurbished model instead of my original one. Now it’s been about four months after I got it back, it functions well. So I’m gonna say I’m satisfied. Recently discovered there’s a new remote function in app, must from a recent software update. Kinda useful when spilled a bag of rice :P ... show more

  • Difficult to connect to Wifi, works GREAT after
Don't recognize the brand? Well, neither did I. Who's ever heard of "Dreametech"? I was out shopping for a RoboRock to replace my horribly performing low-end non-mapping Roomba, as this was what a friend recommended as being much better value for the money and a good performer. Well, turns out that Dreametech is actually another line from the same maker as RoboRock, and both are products of the excellent Xiaomi, makers of a variety of quality phones, tablets, and other consumer devices. This became apparent when I installed the "Mi Home" app to manage the Dreametech vacuum. This vacuum is an unbeatable bargain for what you get. I was looking to pay a bit over $200 for the most basic mapping vacuum I could get. Mapping was important because I've learned from experience just how inefficient the non-mapping can be. It bumps around using random selection from a set of algorithms -- go straight, turn a circle, do a weave, etc. and it ends up hitting parts of your floor over and over and over while other parts never manage to luck into any of the algorithms finding those sections. That Roomba would spend the entire 1.5 to 2 hours of its battery life bumping around, getting stuck in one room for a good long time, getting stuck under some piece of furniture where I forgot to wedge some kind of barrier, and then eventually running out of battery in the middle of a room because it doesn't know where the dock is and it has to bump around until its line-of-sight sensor happens to see the dock, assuming it can luck into that before the battery finally dies. Now the Dreametech: Not only did I get a full MAPPING unit, but BONUS, this one also has a LIDAR which as far as I can tell is usually found only on the much more expensive models -- not even on the more expensive non-LIDAR IR sensor-based mapping models of other brands. I paid around $160 for this one on Amazon Prime Day, but I see that at least at the moment the apparent going price is $200, with a list price of $300 -- I have no idea if the $200 is some kind of sale or just Amazon's typical "better than list". Anyway, even at $200 this is a really good deal. The one issue I had was getting it connected. I had problems with the app wanting to work at first on my phone (a Google Pixel 7 Pro) but got further with it on my Lenovo Duet chromebook (which runs Android apps), and even further installing it on an old retired Samsung phone that I charged and factory reset first. At this point, I was able to at least get to the part where you're getting it to connect to your WiFi. I struggled with this, as it would just get stuck at some point and never finish the connection. I'm using a Synology RT6600AX router which uses a single SSID for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, and this vacuum says it does not support 5 GHz but does work only with 2.4. I thought maybe it was trying to get the 5 GHz since I can't specify one or the other (router is supposed to autonegotiate as needed) so I created another SSID just for 2.4 GHz and started trying on that. It didn't seem to make a difference, but I stuck with that just in case. Eventually after enough trying one small change after another, rebooting the phone over and over, rebooting the vacuum and resetting over and over, turning off every security feature on the router, etc., SOMETHING ended up working. It isn't clear WHAT exactly made the difference. I had even tried bypassing the router entirely and even my ISP by setting the Pixel 7 Pro up as a hotspot going right to its own 5G cellular network. So literally everything in the chain was tried on multiple devices with multiple settings and in the end something worked but who knows what. It did end up having a connection to the 2.4 GHz only SSID on the router with security turned back on (at least after the fact), and that's how it is now. So once that was connected, everything was good. I was really to the point of being ready to contact tech support. The first run does vacuum your house, but more importantly, this is when it's learning where everything is. I did put barriers this time where it wasn't safe to go (under the couch, into a bundle of cables, etc) and let it find all of the walls, furniture, rooms, etc. Once it's discovered all of this, you can edit the map and tell it which parts are off limits for vacuuming, and which are off limits just for mopping. That's a little awkward to edit, but it works, and no need to ever buy those expensive "no vacuum" boundary markers or special tape or whatever. I marked my couch, the cables, the entrances to the rooms I don't want it in, and cat bowl areas where it might bump and make a mess. It dutifully goes right up to the edge of these no-go zones and skirts around. The whole routing is WAY more efficient than I'd seen with the Roomba. It goes room to room, circles the entire valid area for that room first, then starts a back-and-forth systematic series of rows to get the job done quickly. The suction is terrific even not bumping it to the stronger level (which also consumes more battery and is louder). I've left it on medium and I'm very happy. This vacuum does my whole relatively small house in like 35-40 minutes, leaves a really clean floor with no missed spots, and then goes right back to the dock. Contrast with 90-120 minutes, leaving a lot of debris even where it went, and maximal debris where it didn't even go, and dying in the middle of a room. This vacuum is also much quieter than the Roomba was. I can't hear it if it isn't right near me. Further, the dirt chamber is fairly large next to the old low-end Roomba, and much easier to pop out and empty. It isn't, however, large enough that I could let it do more than one session without emptying before the next. I can't schedule it for routine runs for that reason alone, as it still seems to fill up rather snugly from one run, thanks to having 3 cats who leave hair, tracked litter, and thousands of tiny pieces of the cardboard scratching pads all over the place. As if that weren't enough of a reason I can't just schedule for runs, there are tons of cat toys and various cardboard boxes left on the floor for cats to play in which need to be picked up before a vacuum run. Your mileage will vary on that. A friend does fine with scheduling because less debris and no unpredictable toys and such. Mopping: I've used this just once. It was easy enough. Fill this clip-on module with water, stick on a velcro mopping pad, and start it vacuuming. It detects the add-on and knows it's in mopping mode. Those places you don't want a mop to go are avoided. For me, that was entrance mats, chair mats, etc. I don't have carpet so most of the floor was good for mopping. You are instructed not to add any cleaning chemicals to the water, so it's basically just plain water being applied over your floor with a relatively thin textured fabric pad. That isn't going to suffice for real mopping, but if you do that now and then, it'll help get up some of the grime that comes along between real mopping sessions. Don't see this as a replacement for actual mopping, just a supplement, maybe a way to not mop quite as often. In all, even with the serious pain in getting it to connect to WiFi, I'd buy this same unit again and recommend it to others who might happen to have an easier time or at least has patience to work through getting connected, maybe with tech support's help. If you can get past that, the unit itself performs extremely well and is unbeatable on price for what you're getting. ... show more

  • Everything I could hope for Everything I could hope for
Recently my 2.5 year iLife A4s died. Tried cleaning it but still issue. Since I've been wanting a robovac with mop, I decided to upgrade to the Roborock E4 based on reputation. I didn't want to spend more than $300. E4 seemed like the best option based on reputation. The iLife only costs me $140 but worked well. I was expecting much better perfomance from the E4, since it was twice as expensive ($270). When I received the E4, I was really impressed by the build quality and packaging. I read about how zigzag pattern was better than random pattern which was what my cheaper iLife had. Unfortunately, the E4 had terrible climbing threshold and very poor AI, I recorded a 7 minute video showing it doing the same zigzag pattern over and over again before stopping completely. It also had issue docking, would try 4-5 times, 50/50 chance it would successfully dock or stop by error. This was all on the first day of testing. I eventually returned it, really disappointed that a more expensive, reputable robovac could do so much less than my old iLife. I want to preface by saying that I have a medium-small condo (890 sq ft) with hardwood floors. I didn't feel like I need an expensive robovac due to my basic needs. After much research I decided the way to go was getting a laser/LIDAR mapping robovac. But it seemed all decent ones with mopping were $400+. Roborock S5 Max is considered the best in class but given that it was $500 and my poor experience with the E4, I passed. I was going to go with the 360 S7 Pro as it came under $300 and seemed to have good reviews. But after some more researching, I saw that the 360 S9 ($400), Roborock S5 Max ($500) and the Dreametech D9 ($290) all had very similar features, battery size, electric water tank, etc. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, trying to figure out if there was some downfall to the D9. Eventually I decided to pull the trigger based on SmartRobotReviews. When I received the D9, I was extremely impressed by how well the packaging was done. Dreametech is a Chinese company and it seems like they've learned a lot from the other more established companies. Setup was eeriely similar to the E4. They both use Mi Home app. Performance-wise, the D9 was able to climb the threshold that the E4 failed at. It was able to completely clean my entire apartment without stopping. The mopping was really good. Meet my expectations as certain spots were no longer there after it was finished mopping. Docking has been 100% successful. I love the perfect mapping of my apartment. The E4 didn't have LIDAR and tried to draw a strange map that didn't resemble my apartment at all. Verdict for now is that it has exceeded my expectations, so giving it 5 stars for value and performance. Reviews have the S5 Max with better performance but at 50% higher cost. The long term verdict is still out. Hoping I can get 5 (?) years out of it. ... show more

  • Mops and vacuums at the same time!!
Love it! I have the mop attachment on right now, have it adjusted in the app to sense carpet and increase the suction and I have the carpets walled off as no mop zones, I can’t believe it’s mopping and vacuuming simultaneously! And doing a great job too. It stops mopping when it reaches the no mop zone and since it’s carpet it senses that and increases the suction. Seriously so awesome. I’ll probably use my Kirby once in a blue moon but I kinda think that if I just use this daily or every other day i won’t really need to use the Kirby very often at all. Thought the mop attachment was a little chintzy at first but it is working well. I don’t mind a little spot mopping on super gunky stuff in the kitchen if needed. I rarely mop anyway because I hate having to sweep everything super well first. But this makes it no big deal at all . Before it’s first run I vacuumed really well with my Kirby (mostly laminate wood floor with some low pile area rugs). It picked up a ton of dirt, dust, pet hair and people hair (three girls!) we live in the country and have lots of super fine sand that blows in and tracks in on my farmer husbands socks, 1 Labrador, 1 long haired cat and one teenage boy who doesn’t mind making things dirty. It has cleaned it all really well. Navigates through our 2 different dining areas really well too, lots of chair and table legs. The app works well to make the no go zones or no mopping zones. Can also make a zone to have it double vacuum it. Can schedule cleaning as well. I didn’t need to set a no go zone for the basement stairs because it sensed them automatically and didn’t fall down them. What a great buy! $200 and it comes with the mopping stuff! I use only filtered water in it( we have hard water and I think the minerals would clog the holes and leave a film on the floor). I’m surprised how well just plain water cleans the floor. I researched these for months. So happy with this one. Easy to clean the parts and pieces. Always finds its base, navigates soooo well. Is super smart and the app is great. Don’t waste a ton of time researching, I did the leg work for you, just get this one! :) ... show more

  • Good Choice But Lacks Smart Functions
This is a solid product. I own one and I purchased 2 more as gifts. The robot can vacuum and gets most of the debris, but run it on 2x mode so that it vacuums the room in one direction and then vacuums the room in the other direction. That way it can get everything (weird angles can make it miss debris if it’s moving one way, but change its direction and it gets it). Mopping is more like a wet rag being pulled behind it, but I find it cleans my floors well enough in general. I add vinegar to the water tank so it’s disinfecting and cleaning the floors. The app sucks!!! You cannot use voice commands to control the vacuum. It says it works with Alexa and Google Assistant. It doesn’t! You must use the app to control the vacuum. This should be fixed and support for voice control needs to be added!! The app occasionally wipes the saved floor maps bc the vacuum gets “confused” about where it is. Idk why that happens but it does! Fix that too!! Edit: brought down my rating bc this product still has NO support for voice control. You cannot control this vacuum with Alexa or Google Assistant, even though it says it works with both. You have to use your phone to control it through the app. It may sound insignificant or not that big of a deal, but I have a robot vacuum because I don’t even want to think abt needing to vacuum. Without being able to start the cleaning by voice it makes me have to stop, load the app, select the rooms I want it to clean, set the suction level and water level, and then it begins cleaning. I want to be able to say “ALEXA! START THE ROBOT!” and it get to work. ... show more

  • WORKS WELL, As Long As You Make a Great First Map
It is easy to rate this vacuum as I had a much cheaper vacuum for many years that I could compare with. My older and cheaper vacuum had very simple sensors that would clumsily bump into anything and everything and it would just be a miracle for it to find its way home. It also did not do well with small rugs. With this Dreametech vacuum, I did have to experiment a few times to get used to it but in the end it was very easy. I learned that the most important thing is to create an accurate as possible map. When you create your map you MUST make sure there are no cords in the way or other obstacles that would obviously mess up the vacuum. You’ll need to unplug these things or remove it temporarily. Feel free to put them back after the mapping because you could create “no-go” zones to avoid that area! I realized that the vacuum is thorough enough to clean between chairs, however, due to the small entrance and exits of the chair legs, it does get stuck. Therefore, I made my entire dining table and chairs area a no-go zone. I could simply vacuum that area manually once a week. Once the map is accurate, the vacuum navigates the house like a pro! It’s amusing to watch it move from room to room, especially if I program it to only clean certain rooms on certain days. Then, when it’s done, it just goes on its merry way back to the home base with no problem, even if the charger is at the very opposite end of the house in an another room! I am happy to confirm that this vacuum does well on rugs and even higher rugs/mats. It simply climbs it like a champ! Finally, I have programmed my vacuum to clean one room per day (different room, each day) so that it doesn’t overwork and clean the entire house everyday. I program it for 4AM, daily, while I’m asleep. It’s so quiet that it never wakes me up. It’s a great feeling to wake up to a clean house everyday! UPDATE: I loved this vacuum so much that I bought another one and set it up at my grandma’s house. ... show more

  • Caution - Do NOT purchase! It is not supported by Amazon or the manufacturer!
9/24/21N.B. Somewhere along the line, I managed to find an email address for the company that makes these things. I emailed them, describing the trials and tribulations I had with this thing, and got a response from the corporate office in Beijing! They assured me that they have a repair shop in the USA where they do free repairs to these units. The email address is [email protected]. 9/21/2021 FINAL UPDATE - Somehow, I got up yesterday morning and gave the command to start cleaning the house. It completed a full map of the house and cleaned it, and docked itself. I was able to edit the map and label the rooms, and this morning it completed cleaning the entire house again, and docked itself. It did not run into things or rearrange the furniture are make any holes in the walls. I cannot explain it, but suddenly it is working the way it was when I first received it after several weeks of drunken behavior. I caution that once again, the item is completely unsupported and you have a week to return it if you get a lemon. As a result, I cannot recommend getting the device from this company. But it is working correctly now. 9/19/2021 UPDATE: No one stands behind this product. According to the manufacturers web site, you have one week to return it if you buy it from them. Amazon gives you a month. After that, it's yours, and you are on your own. Do not purchase this item. 9/19/2021UPDATE: Attempts to return the item have been unsuccessful, with no response from the manufacturer. Apparently you have 30 days to return it and then you are out of luck. I ordered a different brand because I really need it to work. ___________________________________________ I have never had a device of this nature so I have nothing to compare it to but my portable Shark. I have a cat and a dog and an old house that seems to shed dust from every pore. I wear myself out vacuuming all the time, so I invested a lot of money in this thing. Let me say right off the bat it has suction! It really pulls the dirt and pet hair out of carpeting. When I first took it out, I turned it loose in my 4 room house and followed it around, and was very pleased with how quickly it went to work. It mapped the house, and I was able to split the house into rooms. My house was very dirty, so the bin had to be emptied a lot. I ran the thing several days in a row, and it's performance was exemplary. Since then, it has begun to act like the drunken sailor I mentioned. I walled off some areas with boxes and books and let it remap. It insists on pushing my barriers, which are heavy, and trying to move walls, crashing into chair legs and actually moving the chairs around. It often can't get oriented. So I wiped my maps, deleted the device from the software, and reset the unit and started from scratch. It can't even finish one room, it takes so long to map and then clean it. It reports that the dustbin is full or wet when it is not. I have not even tried to use the mop function yet. As a result, I have no maps, and it seems to wander rather aimlessly. It will get into a corner and attempt to push through walls and then report it is stuck, when it is not. It has never finished a room and re-docked so that I can actually save a map. It continues to clean what it runs over, but that's the only thing it does well. After my initial elation, I am now to the point of returning it for a refund. The problem appears to be the software itself. I tell it to dock from the software, and it pauses and then decides it needs to do something else first. It spends a lot of time talking unintelligible gibberish to itself while working. If it had not cost $300, I would keep it around for it's entertainment value, but it's hard to laugh at that high price. It also seems to need to charge for a long time. At first, I was impressed that it could do my 800 sq. ft. house with plenty of battery left, but at the pace and level of confusion it displays now, it would take all day to do what it did at first in an hour or so. I'm going to let it charge all the way up and try again tomorrow to make a new map and get it to clean. I ordered the kit so that I have more than one filter and roller and stuff, but it apparently ships literally on a slow boat from China. I'm used to getting things from Amazon in a day or two, not weeks. The filter has to be cleaned constantly and then it has to dry for 24 hrs. before it can be used again, and then it still reports that it may be wet or plugged sometimes even though it is clean and dry. It often falsely reports that the roller has something stuck in it, even though it does not. It's a workhorse, but a very flawed workhorse. ... show more
