  • Rough, But The Company Came Through
Size: Linkage Armrests Color: Red
UPDATE: 21 June 2022: This is a follow up to my review below. The text below is still valid but the company reached out to me and made good on its promise of having satisfied customers. It took awhile. The company was going through a re-organization, factory wise and administratively. They apologized profusely concerning the chair and explained there (I didn't quite understand) either is now or will be a redesign of the chair. As far as comfort of the chair it was pretty good. If there is indeed a redesign and it takes care of the problems I had, then I would recommend the chair. I really liked the color - a dark maroon more than red. Also the chair was a good looking chair. As I indicated, it took awhile but if a company is going through a re-organization, I can understand why it took it took 6 months. If nothing else, their customer service is very good and responsive. I leaned over and not very far at that and over I went. I scraped my arm on a chrome wire kitchen cart I use for my copier and copy paper, etc and landed on my left wrist which hurts like crazy. I don't think it is broken or chipped because I can still move my fingers but it hurts when I try to touch my thumb to any one of my fingers and when I try to button a shirt there is a lot of pain. At least I landed on the seat back of the chair so did not hurt my back but scuffed up the back of the chair. I received the chair with the left hinge bent a bit. It looked like it came out of the factory that way because the box when delivered was pristine. The hinges are stamped out and in this case also left the edges fairly sharp so I filed the edges down before taking a chance of cutting a finger. The bent hinge was a real pain trying to get the seat back matching the seat bottom and and took me the better part of 4 hours trying to get that right so the back would fit correctly to the bottom. The legs are not long enough which makes the chair very top heavy. I am 6' tall and weigh 210 - not extremely big but not petite by any means. The chair itself is ok for the price. I don't see it as a long lasting 10 year chair though like my last one which I picked up used even and which this chair is replacing. i wouldn't complain about the bent hinge if I hadn't leaned over and fell on my but - yes I know how to spell it. I cannot recommend this model chair because of the short legs and stability problem. The chair looks nice in pictures but again the legs are not long enough. The office chair I was replacing had the seat cushion finally squished down to nothing. I think that was some of my back problems but the legs were long and very very stable. One could lean over almost to the floor it seemed and never have to worry about tipping all the way over. This chair is also a little wobbly also but I think most office chairs are to a certain extent. I mean they have one 2-3" center post holding up the seat cushion and the rest of the chair and that's all. Maybe if the center post attaching the chair to the legs was 6" round they may not be wobbly but I have never seen any like that. My 17 year old daughter said, yes! papa get a gaming chair when I showed her the chair on Amazon because gamers sit in their chairs for hours. I have to say it fits me very well. The back bolster is too big as someone else commented on so took if back off so cannot review the bolster nor the vibrator part of it. As mentioned, I really like the color - it is a dark dark red. I think it is a handsome chair in that color. It was easy to assemble until I got to the bent left hinge. To make matters worse, the right hinge bolt holes were oblong so there was plenty of adjustment for attaching the back but the left hinge had one bolt hole oblong which allowed for adjustment on the seat bolt but the bolt going into the back was a completely round hole just big enough for the bolt so no adjustment at all - if it had been oblong with some adjustment capability it would have saved me a lot of time. I probably should have sent it back but I had it all laid out on my floor and half put together, then all put together but the back did not fit to the bottom. Who's going to take it completely apart, package it all back up and ship it back. Besides I figured I could get the hinge straightened out without too much trouble. Not. And YES it squeaks when you rock. Someone else mentioned that also. An office chair (gaming chair in this case) should not squeak at least not when it's new. The rocking part is good with plenty of rocking, in fact some people may not like the "long" reach but I like it alot - (as stated in Amazon's description, you can also lock the chair so it does not rock at all). It lays down completely flat. Its a bit of a problem getting back up but when you're laying straight out it feels like a zero gravity chair and is quite comfortable. It IS a bit to get back up though. it has an infinite number of seat back positions. The completely up position is good for desk work and probably some gaming but when the back is straight up it IS straight up. Am I a happy camper? No. Will I continue to use the chair? Probably. I can't afford another chair so I'll just be super careful. I rated it 2 stars for gaming again because of the stability problem from the too short legs. I am not a gamer but my daughter tells me they can get quite "involved" when gaming. I rated it 4 stars for support because the seat cushion part and the back I think are very supportive. The seat and back are NOT soft like some office chairs. I would rate this chair like German cars with their (generally speaking) very firm seats but which allows for driving miles and miles and not be sore where as most American cars have cushy soft seats that feel good at first but after a few of hours one wants to get out of them. That's the way this chair is, like the German car seats and I like the firmness because it offers more long term support, at least in my opinion. I know this has been lengthy but I hope it will help some people with their decision making. ... show more

  • This is a Great Chair. Far better than most
Size: Linkage Armrests Color: Grey
Pros: First, I have to say that I am a retired Engineer and as such I am very picky about products and how they work, or in many cases, how they don’t work. This DOWINX gaming chair is the best chair (5 stars) I could find after researching over 40 chairs. It is comfortable, no wait, it is REALLY comfortable and very quiet with the exception noted in the Cons. I was trying out the reclining function and fell asleep in the chair after assembly. My wife woke me up an hour later; otherwise I would have slept through the night in the chair. The chair turns very easily and with one push and you could turn around more than 360 degrees without any noise or resistance. The wheels move the chair effortlessly on my carpeted floor. This model fully reclines 180 degrees to make it flat if you want and can be locked into any position between 90 and 180 degrees. It also has a rocking function which allows a 20 degree deviation from where you have the reclining set to. There is a tension control knob under the seat for the rocking function. The seat to ground distance is ~16 to 19 inches when you are seated. Add 1 inch if the chair is empty. It has a footrest which is stored under the seat that can be pulled out, flipped over, and extended for reclining or sleeping. Some people have complained about footrests breaking on other chairs. So long as you don’t put a lot of weight on it, I think it will serve its purpose. It is very useful when reclining or napping. There is detachable lumbar support (with massager) and a head pillow. The head pillow is the right size for me (I’m 5’10”) and offers some adjustment up/down, however there isn’t anything there to keep it in place. I don’t view this as a big problem since you can reach back and fix it easily. The lumbar support is thinner than most other chairs and works well, at least for me, until you recline past ~110 degrees, then it feels like it is too thick. It can be removed if you find it a problem. It does have a built-in massage function that runs off of a 5v USB source. The massager is noisy but not as loud as others. I didn’t find it as relaxing as I thought it might be, so I’m not using it right now. That may change. You’ll need about an hour to assemble this chair if you have put things together before and maybe another hour if this is your first assembly project. Although I assembled it alone, I could have benefited from another person’s help. Cons: With the rocking feature engaged, there are some noises at the limits of the 20 degree rocking motion. This is caused by the lever that adjusts the seat up/down. It moves when rocking and has metal to metal contact at the limits of the rocking function. If it bothers you, it can be fixed by placing a thin (1/8” or less) adhesive backed, rubber pad on the metal surfaces above and below the moving metal parts. The tools provided are not hardened steel and deform easily when tightening the screws. I will suggest you go buy some quality Metric Allen wrenches before assembly. You will need 5 and 6 mm sizes that are at least 2 inches long on each side. There is no good way to make sure that the metal rods of the footrest are parallel so they don’t bind. The best way is to anchor one screw on each plastic guide and test fit the footrest. If parallel, place some tape as a position marker; slide the footrest out; and install the other screws. When reclining, the seat back rises about 2.5 inches with relationship to the seat. Add the lumbar support and the 2.5” becomes 5+”. See the pictures. Everything is okay without the lumbar support. When you attach the chair back to the seat, put all of the screws in first but don’t tighten them yet. There are two brackets coming from the seat that will support the seat back. The top hole on one of these brackets is round and is the least adjustable. This is the anchor point for mounting the seat back, tighten this screw first and then the one below it. Other than the first hole, the other holes are elongated to allow for adjustment. When the first side has been tightened, notice the gap between the seat and bottom of the chair back. Place something in between there to keep the gap the same size from side to side. I used a book. Then tighten the remaining screws. This will ensure that your seat back isn’t leaning to one side. The instruction you get comes in the form of a small picture booklet. Most everything you need is there, but it could be improved. There is some Chinese English, but better than most. DOWINX should add information on the tension control, describing which direction does what. Adding a picture of how to properly put the lumbar support on (not a big problem) would also be good also. The packing materials smell. I think they put something in their packing to make sure no bugs survive the trip to the US. When you are done assembling open a window for a few hours. ... show more

  • Good chair, Seat Cushion Wears Out Quick
Size: Linkage Armrests Color: Grey
I bought this chair around September of last year and I will say this, it is a very nice chair. I previously had a chair from Walmart for about 5 years, however the back was starting to go. I bought one of these Dowinx chairs for myself and my girlfriend, and built them over the weekend. I will say, my chair feels softer to the touch than hers, however I've noticed that my seat cushion has worn out significantly faster. I do spend more time in it and am heavier, but I did not have this issue with my previous chair from Walmart, even after 5 years. Everything else is great, the recline works well, the leg rest is great for when Im reclined (however my legs are little too long for it to work outside of that) and overall the ergonomics are pretty good. If they just used a little bit better cushioning (even at the cost of a slight price increase) I think these bad boys would knock it out of the park. ... show more
