Just finished pruning and topping 65 trees in our orchard. The best I've used by far. Bar is perfect size, I cut up to 5" diameter, never had to sharpen the chain once all week and never drained the battery one time. Lightweight, easy to maneuver thru the branches and easy to use off of an orchard ladder (even though the book says don't). Just keep it full of bar oil and re-charge the battery every night. This thing is amazing! I was skeptical that a battery power saw could cut a 6" diameter branch.. however, it did it with grace. I love being able to reach things overhead that previously I had to get a ladder out for... and hence, mostly ignored. It's not fast, it's somewhat unwieldy, but given that you have a battery powered chainsaw on the end of a long pole, that's understandable. The advantage is that I don't have to worry about the carburetor get gummed up because the saw sits on the sidelines for long periods of time. Use it when you need it, put it away and forget about it. I have more than enough carbureted engines to care for an maintain and I don't need another one. Thus fits my need perfectly. ... show more

Ordered this Feb right after the worst ice storm I've ever experienced as a life-long 70-YO Texan living on a ranch. Had the Echo gas PPT 265 power pruner, but it's a beast and I'm unable to use it for long at all. The Dewalt weighs about half the Echo at 10 lbs; is easier to maneuver, and cuts well even if slower than the Echo. Received it Feb. 7 and put it to work immediately. We used it 3-4 times over the next month; then March 17 was using it, put it down, then tried to use it again to no avail. Would make a single click when trigger was depressed, that was it. Battery was fine; two other batteries we tried didn't improve result. Fired off an email through the Dewalt website with the Amazon digital receipt attached; received a response in 30 minutes with a UPS shipping label attached. Took the saw and label to local UPS store Mar 18; it went out to Dallas area repair station Mar 20, arrived Mar 21. I received a new replacement saw today, Mar 28. It shipped from CA Mar 22. I consider that excellent customer service! Will update if the new saw poses problems, but thus far I'm a happy cutter! ... show more

I purchased this pole saw because we live in southern Tennessee and have a large lot surrounded by trees and bushes. The trees and bushes and vines continually encroach upon our cleared areas. The saw required really NO assembly other than putting the pole sections together, which is very simple and secure. The 20v 4Ah Li-Ion battery charges quickly. (I've thought about buying a back-up battery, but my routine is to cut branches for 20-30 minutes, put the battery on charge--even if not out of juice--and then use that time to clean the saw, tighten the chain, and drag all the the cut branches to the collection pile). I'd read other reviews criticizing the need (with this DeWalt saw) to empty the bar oil from the reservoir after each use--this is a little bit of a negative but when I am actively working on a trimming project, I'll just store the saw in a position that doesn't allow it to leak, and when I store the saw for long periods, I drain the oil (I only use biodegradable oil). I've had no trouble cutting branches or trees 6 inches in diameter. I've had no trouble with the chain losing tension over what I'd expect after 20-30 minutes of use. Very easy to tighten--don't have to disassemble anything. My only real complaint is that the saw works so well that I cut so many branches and small trees that it takes much more energy dragging all that cut stuff to the collection pile! (Need a little yard tractor and trailer!) ... show more

Sturdy, & cuts very well. Easiest to handle with overhead angles of 30 degrees or less from vertical. Well made and should last trouble free a long time if properly used.
