But I'm honestly not sure. I have noticed a slight difference in the shower; less noticeable smell etc, but the design of this is sort of wacky. We have an extender on my showerhead, and it was rather tricky to get this filter to be in the right position to make it all work. It is sort of precarious right now, so I may have to take it off if it doesn't stay in the exact right position. I will be purchasing the Sprite Right shower filter next, as I have read in a few blogs that this filter really works well, and actually removes 99% of chlorine. The Vitamin C filters also work too, as they neutralize the chlorine; I add vitamin C crystals to the bath tub :) Consumers do their own "clinical trials" at home with these filters, but I haven't read about any actual tests performed with the Culligan filter, and I have looked. I bought this filter before I had sufficient time to really research it. This filter is ok, but not great. Update: It has been a little over 3 months, and all of a sudden, my skin started to itch terribly after my shower, and my hair also started looking frizzy and angry. I am pretty sure that my shower filter needs to be replaced, so I purchased a replacement and I will see if this solves the problem. If it does, then this filter definitely does what it is supposed to do. It didn't occur to me that it was the filter, only because the filter is supposed to last for 6 months. I live with two roommates, and we all shower daily. One of them takes VERY long showers, so this could be the reason why the filter has only lasted for 3 months. In any event, I will update my review upon installing the new filter; I have high hopes :) ... show more

Worked great for 2 years. Noticeably softer water and excellent water flow. Then when replacing the filter at the latest 6 month interval, I noticed one side of the filter was clogged with metallic flakes. These flakes were from the silver coating on the plastic screw-on cap that holds the filter in place. I had noticed my shower pressure wasn't as good as it used to be and that explained it. ... show more

This filter was easy enough to put on, although it does fit a little loose, but we fixed that with some plumbers tape. We have well water which contains quite a bit of rust and our showers always felt "dirty"- kind of like you could feel the rust particles even if you couldn't see them and our hair and skin felt awful even after scrubbing with loofahs and what not. We put this filter on the shower head and our hair and skin feel clean again. We do have to change this filter every month, but until we get a whole house system, this seems to be doing the trick for keeping the rusty feeling out of our hair and skin. **Update: It's been almost a full year with this filter and the part where it attaches to the shower arm out of the wall has come loose- like it's stripped out or bent in the washer/nut area, so it has started to leak at that joint. After examining it, it appears it cannot be fixed or maybe I'm just not handy enough to do it. For the year of heavy showering we got out of it, it was great, but I think we'll be trying out a more direct in-line system or just buy the filtered showerhead itself. Part of the problem is that we have a pretty heavy showerhead which I think caused this joint area to weaken. I think with a smaller and lighter showerhead this would still be working great, but one of us is over 6 foot tall, and the other a bit over 5, so our big showerhead gets moved up and down a lot, and this design isn't good for constant adjustment. As an add on to the shower neck, it installed easily and doesnt leak (at least not yet). It is all plastic so I wouldn't over tighten any of the moving parts. It's only been a week or so and I can't really tell much about the quality of the shower water or it's affect on my skin but the removal of any chemicals from the water supply (upon reaching your house) is a good thing. Bought this thinking it would improve my shower water quality, but it started leaking from inside the unit within just a couple of weeks. Not from the hose connection or pipe — the actual filter housing leaks! I tried everything — new washers, plumber’s tape, even took it apart and cleaned it — still leaks. I contacted Culligan customer support, and they were completely unhelpful. Just generic responses and no solution offered. For the price, I expected way better. Total waste of money. ... show more

I purchased this filter at the same time I purchased a new shower head. I figured, two birds, one stone. Plus, this includes a small roll of Teflon tape, so I didn't need to pick any up for this, or the new shower head. *Score!* This filter unit is rather well built, and appears to be completely metal, except for the filter inside of the housing. Installation couldn't be easier. I installed this filter and my new shower head in around fifteen minutes. The only design issue I found is the hand tightened nut. I believe that it should have been configure for a wrench. It's difficult to tighten enough to keep the entire unit still when attaching a shower head to it. However, the filter seems to be working great. My wife and I both feel like our skin is not as dry and itchy. It must have been caused by the chlorine in our water. Also, the level of soap scum has dropped significantly since I installed this unit. Pros: -Well built. -Easy to access the filter. -Includes Teflon tape. -Easy installation. -Less chlorine. -Less mineral deposits. Cons: -Hand tightened connection nut. (Might be fine for most, but I prefer one that accommodates wrenches.) -Showering is too enjoyable... I believe my shower time has increased by almost 50 percent. (Not necessarily a bad thing.)
