The HD-950A Large Volume whole house system has four times the capacity of standard duty filter systems. Included with the unit is a SW-3A housing wrench, pressure relief valve. From the Manufacturer Culligan's Heavy-Duty HD-950A sediment housing has two times the capacity of standard 10-inch filters. It is ideal for private wells, large homes, farms, swimming pools, and spas and can extend the life of washing machines, water heaters, and other water-using household appliances. It has a 1-inch inlet/outlet for installation on main cold-water line and includes a housing wrench for filter installation. The unit come with a 5-year limited warranty. The HD-950A housing uses filter cartridges (R50-BBS, CP5-BBS, RFC- BBS) sold separately. So far (3 months) I haven't had any issues. The filter that comes preinstalled (5 Micron) has caught quite a bit of sediment and rust from my old well pump. I used NSF rated lubricant on the o rings prior to install and haven't had any leaks like some other reviews claimed. I replaced a similar Culligan filter that has been in place for more than 25 years due to the original installer swapping inlet and outlet causing filter life to be reduced. I have the clear housing and have not had any issues with cracking or leaking. I use this as a prefilter for a very nice filter from Ecolab. The filter housing is solid and the clear canister is good. Couple things I feel could be better. The filter element could center itself in a more consistent way. Not a big deal but I could see missing the top center if you are not careful with assembly. A more significant issue (to me). The female plastic threads on the housing top causes me a bit of concern. I had to reinstall because I was hesitant to over tighten the male adapter into the plastic. I started with a couple of layers of teflon tape and that was no where near enough. I screwed the adapter into within 3-4 threads and it leaked. The instructions note you can go to about 1 thread showing so I guess that's the key. ON my second shot, I put 5-6 teflon wraps and slathered on some teflon paste. Then screwed the adapters almost all the way in. That seems to work. I guess you cant be shy with screwing in the brass male adapters. I was concerned of over tightening and stripping the plastic threads but I guess they are tough enough to withstand the stress of tightening in the adapter. Update: had it installed for a couple of weeks now and everything is good. I installed the filter with some Shark bite fittings so I feel pretty good if I ever have to remove the filter. They worked out well. Some further thoughts: If I were to install another of these filters, I would put a union on each side with a bypass line so the whole thing could be removed if needed. I suppose that is overkill and would likely never be needed but I am a sort of belt and suspenders guy and would not want have to take the whole mess apart. Since install in late January (now its May) looks like its almost time to place the filter. But the town says its gonna flush the hydrants soon so I will wait for that event. We have pretty good town water but you might not like to see what is caught in the filter. ... show more

The one that came with the house I bought was doing fine until I had to replace the filter and it then developed a leak around the top of the unit that switches the water off and on. I looked around and finally found this as a replacement for it at it was exactly what I needed. It took me a little while to keep it from leaking at the connection points on my water line but when I finally did it has worked perfectly! This one has a pressure release button which I hope will keep it from developing a leak when I have to change the filter. Only time will tell. ... show more

Had to replace a really old one these, I'm sure this one will last 20 years to. They pretty easy to install, thread tape is your friend use a lot of it. The valve shutoff on the top is the key, I had to put a temporary one on since lowes and home depot for whatever reason had non in stock the day our old one started leaking. Had no choice but to do the job twice so as to have this kind with the valve built into it. We use it for rust particles that come from our well casing mainly during spring time when this happens but leave filter in all year as to keep the orange from staining toilets or sinks. ... show more

We will see how long it will last. I needed extra Teflon tape on my 3/4 copper male tread fitting to stop leaking past 3/4 female threads. It has a double o-ring on the canister, this is a nice feature. The whole house filter housing looks better than the Dupont brand that failed.
