Description

The Culligan HD-950A large-volume whole house filtration system has four times the capacity of standard duty filter systems. Included with the filter housing is a SW-3A housing wrench and a pressure relief valve. Ideal for private wells, large homes, farms, swimming pools, and spas, this whole house water filter can extend the life of washing machines, water heaters, and other water-using household appliances. With a 1-inch inlet/outlet for installation on main cold-water line, this water filtration comes with a 5-year limited warranty. The HD-950A housing is compatible with Culligan R50-BBS, CP5-BBS, and RFC-BBS filter cartridges. I’m very happy with the Culligan WH-S200-C Whole House Water Filter. It works great and has made a noticeable difference in my water, especially with reducing the amount of iron. Culligan is a good name brand, so I felt confident buying it, and so far it has lived up to expectations. One feature I really like is the built-in on/off/bypass switch. It makes changing filters or bypassing the unit much easier without having to shut everything down. Overall, this is a solid whole-house filter that does exactly what I needed it to do. So far so good. Created a 4 filter system for the house to filter water coming from the well. Used 5 micron and 1 micron filters in series to get really clean water and remove a lot of the heavy mineralization. I put two of these series water filter systems in parallel to keep water flow high and to allow the switching of filters without turning water off. one filter gives 4gpm of flow. having them in parallel should give closer to 8gpm flow now. Next is getting a water softener to remove 100% of mineralization. We used one for 20 years and loved it but it died and we haven't replaced it yet. ... show more

Very easy to install. I mounted a piece of plywood on the wall for a mount. No leaks and filters the water well. Plenty of options for replacement filters. The only gripe I have is the bypass valve is a pain to turn and sometime leaks out the top if you don't get it turned just right. I just resorted to turning the valve off from the well tank so I don't have to worry about it. ... show more

I’m using this Culligan Whole House Water Filter System for my ice machine, and it works great! The water is noticeably cleaner, and my ice comes out crystal clear without any odd taste. Installation was straightforward thanks to the built-in bypass valve and included tools, and I love that it helps protect both my ice maker and plumbing from sediment buildup. We've been in our new house for a year now and are on a local water supply for the subdivision. We had smell issues in the water and pulled the anode rod from our 1 year old water heater, and it was down to the wire. I have since learned that the smell comes from the decaying zinc on the anode, but had already ordered this filter to prefilter anything that may be contributing to that smell. It's so nice to be able to see that we don't have sand or other debris in our water, and so far only see a rusty iron color on the filter, which is easy to view thru the clear canister. I used a couple of sharkbite fittings and intercepted the incoming water line before the softener and water heater, so our entire system is now filtered. After this, I added a powered CorroProtect, which I did have issues with, but now my water smells are history. Installation was easy and it looks fine where I installed it. ... show more

First of all, it's much cheaper to buy these on Amazon than at your local hardware store. You can also get a good deal on the filters themselves by signing up for automatic shipment on the schedule you desire. That not only saves you on the filters, but also serves as a reminder that it's time to change them out when the new ones arrive! There is another model that has a clear plastic body but it costs more for some reason. I had those and they froze and broke last winter so I thought these solid ones looked to be a bit stronger. If you are on a well, you should buy two of these and hook them up in series with a primary sediment filter in the first unit and a micron filter for the 2nd. I got these two units installed and instantly had the clearest water coming from the tap. They cost more and have to be changed every two months, but the micron filter makes a huge difference over using cheaper ones that don't have the higher filtering capability. I've got a lot of sediment and was using a Brita filter, but the water is now so bright and clear (and tasty) that I just use water straight from the faucet now. It's the best water I've ever tasted actually! Do not overtighten when you install the filters. If you have water leaking, check to make sure you didn't drop the "O ring" when you removed the used filter. They also recommend putting some vaseline on the seal. Installed properly, you don't have to use more than finger pressure with a slight snugging with the plastic wrench for a perfect seal. If you are still leaking stop and disassemble. Don't force it too tight or it's hard to get it off the next time you have to change filters. If your filter box is outside make sure you have it adequately insulated if you are subject to hard freezes in your area. I have my box insulated with a 100 watt lightbulb on the inside which I plug in when temps drop into the low teens. I don't recommend wrapping the pipes and the filters with insulation and heat tapes. That's what failed disastrously last winter. First the heat tape failed and you couldn't visually see that under the wrappings and secondly a couple of wraps of a heat tape around the filter wasn't adequate. It was also a terrible mess to tear it all apart to change the filter cartridges! Better to insulate the whole box and put a visible heat source inside. ... show more
