  • Great set with proper care
Size: 2-Skillets
These are great, enough to make me wish I'd discovered cast iron sooner! I left the original seasoning on, but did a seasoning of my own before using. I also cooked high fat foods like bacon for the first few uses to help it along. The cleaning couldn't be easier! Most times, a jet of hot water from my sink sprayer is enough, although I've needed to use the chain mail scrubber a couple times. The included silicone handles are nice, although I end up usually just using a dish towel or oven mitt because I forget to put them on before the pan heats up šŸ˜‚. After cleaning, I always dry them well and hit them with a small bit of oil (a coffee filter wrapped around a dry sponge is great for spreading it: it won't lint like a paper towel or even a dish towel will, and gets into the corners nicely). Some words to the wise on care: It's metal. It will rust if you leave water in it. DO NOT PUT IT IN THE DISHWASHER. A light coat of oil after cleaning will help stave off rust. The seasoning is a layer of oil that has polymerized (changed chemically) from heat, that protects the surface and makes it nonstick. Acid-y foods like tomatoes will weaken it, as will soap: use sparingly, if at all. If your food is sticking, or the pan is dull, you may need to season it again. Google, YouTube, and Pinterest are wealths of knowledge and how-to's. Heat your pan before adding your fat and food if you want it heated evenly, especially if you're trying to sear something. Although iron is tough, it is not unbreakable. Use common sense and don't treat the pans like they're indestructible. Let them cool (at least to the point you can handle them without oven mitts) before you clean them, so you don't temperature-shock the metal and make it brittle. Be careful on a glass cooktop, so the pans don't scratch your surface. I definitely see these pans being a huge part of my cooking routine for years to come. My sons are already fighting over who they'll get left to! If you found any of my tips helpful, please be sure to click the helpful button to let me know! Thanks, and happy cooking! ... show more

  • Decent skillets for the price
I gave four stars because I think these are great skillets for the price, but Iā€™m also comparing to my $200 enamel skillet so keep that in mind. I mainly needed a skillet for camping and use over hot coals and open fire (which one Iā€™m not taking a $200 skillet and you can do that with an enamel). Got this set and Iā€™m very pleased with them. You just need to put the work into preseasoning them even though they claim they are already. First few used definitely do something with grease/fat to assist that to make them more non-stick. 8ā€ is great for personal sized omelet in the morning and 10ā€ would be great if just by yourself for other items but Iā€™m usually with other people and have since added the 12ā€ to my collection (which I got with the cast iron lid - recommend getting the cast iron lids to make them like small Dutch ovens almost). I love the rubber removable handle covers and work great when camping but still be careful as they can get hot as well. ... show more

Highly recommend using cast iron when cooking. Love all the different sizes. Easy to clean. One thing to add the bigger the cast iron the heavier it is to move around.

  • New To Cast Iron Cookingā€¦
Size: 2-Skillets
So Iā€™m not sure that Iā€™m doing everything correctly. I use these weekly as part of my meal planning just to sautĆ© vegetables. I use a high smoke point oil (avocado), clean promptly and I donā€™t use dish soap but I find that thereā€™s still black residue after fully cleaned. Itā€™s not food debris so might be carbons? I dunno .. google says itā€™s harmless but seeing the dark color on towel when I oil and put them away, makes me feel like they are still dirty .. Otherwise, they cook fine.. food is fine.. ... show more
