I got it on sale and was the deal of my life I think. It came right ready for use, I just plugged and was all set. I pair it with my M1 MacBook Pro which only had 256GB and it was a great addition to have more storage easily accesible and fast. Even though its made from aluminum, which makes you think its a great build quality, its really not that great. The aluminum scratched by just being in my bag in about a day, and the rubber part on the bottom, some of the corners kind of disintegrated within just a couple months. So build quality definitely not the strong part. However I use it for work, not for aesthetics so I pretty much don't care if its scratched or not. It doesn't get hot almost at all and it doesn't make any noise obviously since it doesn't have any moving parts. I received this drive today, after reading the feedback, I wanted to run CryDisk Benchmark version 8 and AttoDisk Benchmark both Programs ran great as the Photos will Show. I got about 480 Mbs per second. That was deleteling the pre Installed programs completely deleting everything on the drive then selecting create. Then formatted to format32 and wait til it was done.Licky split. It was done in 5-7 minutes and that was a slow format. I don't kmowvwhy others say they can't run Crystal Disk Benchmark on this drive. I did and again the pictures show that it is a performer. Did I get 1020 transfers. I sorry that I got about half of that. That was a marketing ploy it seems. Would I recommend the Crucial X9? Heck YES, and that's because of the performance and sheer size! I'm hoping that this drive to be around for a along time, God forbid, there's a Samsung SSD 2TB right next to in the arm rest.i worry about losing drives, at least it should be safe in the armrest! Update 12/16/2024 this drive is still chugging along. I have noticed that if several videos are are copied from one drive to a larger drive that the wedding videos that my late father and my younger brother Andrew who was my best man the video is 2 hrs where I can still see them both and my mother that remarried to a great guy and her video was 2 hours long. Wouldn't copy both videos. Only if each video was copied and pasted Individually, which was surprising, the my Samsung Evo 2tb drive would copy and paste extremely quickly 8 minutes each wedding video ... show more

The drive itself is great, it's small and fast, but none of the pictures show the backplate, which has a rubberized coating, and the drive gets hot enough during long sessions that after over a year of semi-regular use the coating has started to get slimy to the touch. Only took me a couple minutes to scrape it all off, but finding that out the hard way was an unpleasant surprise. ... show more

I pass large files in seconds, without having to wait forever, and the best thing is that I can connect it without problem to my Windows laptop, to my Mac and even to my iPhone 16 Pro Max.     • Absolutely abismal warranty service

The drive seems fine while it works. Isn't that the case with most of these things? I was using this to store my Dropbox folder on a Mac laptop. That's not...easy. But still, between being very careful and ensuring the computer never went to sleep, things seemed to work out. Turns out I got one that was bad out of the box. Took over a year to figure it out. Kept having weird inexplicable corruptions while the drive otherwise seemed totally fine. I blamed it on Dropbox at first, and my general lack of knowledge on what file system I should be using on a Mac. Finally the last time I got some cryptic Dropbox error message, I couldn't even list the contents of a directory. I knew that meant physical drive problems. I connected it to a Windows PC (the only way you can run their diagnostics) and ran it...all green lights. Other third-party tools told me the drive was full of bad sectors. Upon closer inspection, their tool showed the number of "media errors" as 65535 - a clear indication the counter had maxed out. How is that drive "in good health"?! It's not. Their tool lies. I sent them the screenshot and they immediately gave me an RMA number. However, they demand that you ship the drive to them, then they examine it, and then they send a replacement. Completely inappropriate for relatively large drives that I have nowhere else to back up. A lot of the data was still readable but I literally had nowhere else to put it. They refused to drop-ship a replacement drive. Why? Why can't they just "sell" me one, and then refund me when they verify the drive was bad? So I had to buy another one on Amazon, with the intention of then returning the new drive they eventually send back. I sent the drive with tracking. I could see they had received it. I emailed them for a status update and they claimed they had not received it. So I send them the tracking link and they said "oh yes it looks like it's here". Wow. At that point I stopped paying attention. Eventually I got an email that they verified the drive was bad but the X9 was and end-of-life product so they were sending an X10 instead. Great, now I can't return it. Some time later I got something slightly larger than a shoebox with a lot of paperwork on it. I didn't think much of it. When I got around to opening this double-thick, box-in-a-box package, the replacement drive was tossed to one side in this huge box full of airbags. I just...cannot. There is more weight in packaging, as if they have never serviced a small electronic device before. So, warranty works like this: 1. You have to double-check their diagnostic tool, which lies. 2. You have to nag them to make sure they actually look at your drive. 3. They will eventually send you something back. The overall process for me was a month. That is not product support. That is just punishment. Never buying Crucial again. ... show more
