  • Warranty is a flat out lie
Capacity: 480GB Style: Standard Packaging
As a business we order SSDs by the stack, typically 10 at a time, multiple times a month. One of the drives we used on a customer's computer was defective and we went to Crucial's website to start an RMA ticket. Once there, we found their RMA would only process if you had a "Material Number".... A number that didn't appear on the drive, but ONLY in a specific location near the UPC on the packaging.... Packaging that SSDs ordered from amazon doesn't have... Serial number? Doesn't work, Part number? Doesn't work. Model number? Nope. Name? Nuh uh. Material number ONLY. And IF YOU ORDER FROM AMAZON YOU WILL NOT GET PACKAGING THAT HAS A MATERIAL NUMBER. So I clicked the "Terms and Conditions" link... Page 404... So I clicked the "Contact Customer Service" link... page 404... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! So since I couldn't use their automatic form I just opened a live chat with an agent... who then began to interrogate me on "how do I KNOW it's bad?" "What steps did I take to try and fix it myself".... I RUN a computer repair business and even after answering all of his questions, that wasn't good enough. Like... he was trying to get me to say that I couldn't be sure my tests weren't lying to me or something. again.... I. Do. This. For. A. Living! After THIRTY minutes of getting the runaround on what tests I ran and how ridiculous all this was in the first place I ended the conversation and refunded through amazon instead. My company will now order all our SSDs exclusively from another brand from now on. Because they refused to RMA a single drive they literally lost hundreds upon hundreds of sales. So be warned. If >I< a professional IT technician can't satisfy them that I know when an SSD is bad, I hold little hope that the average consumer will experience anything more then a nightmare runaround attempting to get this shady company to honor their warranty. ... show more

  • Drive Fried Itself After 90 Days
Capacity: 480GB Style: Standard Packaging
Booted machine after the device had been working for about 90 days and I got magic smoke, first time in MANY years of building PCs. Upon inspection of the machine turns out this drive had decided to burn. Amazon support ends at 90 days and Crucial s website says it cannot give an RMA. Customer Support is only open M-F during business hours so for this requires some, including me, to take a day off from work do a return. ... show more

  • Works fine. Buy the WD Blue 3D.
Capacity: 2TB Style: Standard Packaging
This is a fine product, it works, it's faster than a hard drive. Speed tests show good results, but the moment you go to do something that's more than 50 GB or so, it tanks. Installing new games from Steam or copying large folders to/from this drive causes the speeds to tank to 5-10 MB/s for minutes on end. Spend the little bit more and get something like the WD Blue 3D... much better value. (I purchased the 2TB version for reference) ... show more

  • Great Upgrade and hits advertised speeds.
Capacity: 240GB Style: Standard Packaging
I upgraded from slow 5400rpm laptop drive to this 240GB SSD. The old drive was getting a CyrtalMark Seq score around 78 for Read &75 for Write, this drive is hitting 559 Read &515 Write! The boot time has gone from 1 min to 6 seconds! Highly recommended.

  • Fast, quiet and surprisingly easy to install
Capacity: 2TB Style: Standard Packaging
Rarely is my experience with a new product exactly as advertised. This 2TB Crucial BX500 SSD drive is! First off, I have a PC setup slightly more complex than usual. I built this desktop computer myself several years ago, setting it up with a dual-boot config: Windows 10 64-bit on my main hard drive for application development work; Windows 7 32-bit on another, for compatibility with older music recording software and hardware interface. After all these years, I was concerned my two original 2TB Seagate drives would be reaching end-of-life. Plus, they were getting slower each year with more and more data on them. Now, this was my first replacement drive to see how it went--and my first SSD experience. I popped the new Crucial drive into an Icy Dock 2.5 to 3.5 inch adapter case, installed it in an open drive bay, connecting it to an open Serial ATA slot in my motherboard with an extra SATA cable I had lying around (Note: the drive doesn't come with any cables), plugged it into an open SATA power connector connector, closed the case and powered up the PC. I then followed the Crucial online instructions downloading the Crucial Storage Executive drive info app and Acronis cloning app. I was pleased to see that the SSD drive was now recognized by Windows 10 and it was apparently functioning correctly. I then fired up the Acronis True Image app, selected my "C:" drive to clone and selecting "Manual" as a partition option and then, "As Is" instead of "Proportional", since both old and new drives are the same size. Cloning my Windows 10 boot drive took a good couple of hours and completed successfully. Now for the big test. I turned off the PC, opened the case again and disconnected the old boot drive and turned the PC back on. I now expected the usual option to boot from either the Windows 10 or Windows 7 drive. Instead, I got the ugly DOS message: "Reboot and select proper boot device." Uh oh... However, this was an easy fix. I rebooted and this time selected the option to open the BIOS software. From it's "BOOT" menu, I found my new Crucial SSD drive was listed with it's serial number beginning with "CTxxx...", instead of the Seagate drive "ST" prefix. It turned out my disconnecting the old primary Seagate drive had apparently confused the BIOS and caused it to move my empty DVD drive into the first boot position. I simply moved the new Crucial drive to that first position, saved the BIOS setting and rebooted again. This time I given the expected option to select my default Windows 10 drive, or my old Windows 7 music recording drive. The cloning process had NOT wiped my custom boot config! I selected the Windows 10 boot option to my new SSD drive and was AMAZED at how fast Windows 10 loaded--and then, how fast bulky programs like Microsoft Visual Studio now load. Awesome! I'm thrilled. I'm now ready to try replacing the other Seagate hard drive. Since this one has old, end-of-life Windows 7, we'll see how that goes. I'll let you know! ... show more
