  • Not really 30 fps
Size: CR-Scan Otter
I am getting 2-15 fps on avg. Very very difficult to get a decent scan. I’ve had it for a few months now and have practiced a lot, still takes a lot of time, patience, and creativity to get a half way decent scan and all still require some degree of post edit to even use the scan for any print or modeling. Very expensive and not worth the money. Recommend spending 2k-5k to up the fps and get a better and faster scan. More initial cost but way more efficient in the long run. ... show more

  • It takes a lot of practice
Size: CR-Scan Otter
I also have the Ferret. You are definitely getting more machine with the Otter. The Otter can be challenging to calibrate. You have to use a special plate with dots on it to calibrate the device. Sometimes if you have a light source in the room that flickers (like a computer screen), it will mess with the signal being received by the scanner's sensors, causing the scanner to lose its position. Just be mindful of lighting. I'm not sure the scanner is precise enough to scan a coin like they advertise. I haven't tried it yet, but I am extremely skeptical, based upon the larger objects I have scanned so far. These devices require you to put time in practicing with the device. One thing I did figure out with the Ferret and the Otter is if you are trying to scan a person, and their hair or beard or whatever isn't scanning, back the scanner way off (very slowly). The hairy parts should start to turn green on the model you are creating. Overall, it's a cool little device... I just need to practice. ... show more
