  • So happy with my purchase! Comfortable, sturdy, and reasonably priced!
Size: Drop In Step Color: Warm Grey/Grey Treads
I'M SO HAPPY WITH THESE POOL STAIRS! We purchased these steps in the beginning of the season for our 24' round above ground pool, but I wanted to wait until we had to take them out of the pool to give a full review. We had to switch out our a-frame ladder for different steps because this summer we built a deck off the back of our pool. Also, we have a dog and thought these would help him to get in and out of the pool easily. The shipping was super fast and the instructions were clear and easy. They are sturdy, look nice, and the price is reasonable. I read each and every review here beforehand and used some of the suggestions, which I will point out. Filling them up with the recommended amount of sand was not hard at all, but it did leak out a little upon placement in the pool. Not a lot, but it's worth mentioning. Even after filling with the sand and water, the steps still floated a bit. We decided to take some gravel and fill the 2 bottom pieces (2 bases) where the sides connect. We also used some silicone caulk around the openings of those bottom pieces. We didn't purchase a pool mat, but instead purchased a $10 yoga mat to protect the liner. The mat didn't want to stay down, so we cut 2 long strips for the bottom of each side and zip-tied them on. (We tried to caulk them to the bottom of each side, but the caulk didn't hold all season long.) Lastly, we used more screws to attach to the deck than they provided. They give you plenty of holes, but only a few screws for that part. It really helped strengthen the railing. We did need to build a little step up from the deck to the top of the Confer stairs because we built our deck to go right under the top rail of the pool. Also, the stairs didn't sit back far enough to the pool wall because we have a larger cove at the bottom than most I guess. We needed to move them away from the pool wall so they would sit flat, and that required more of a platform on the deck. I wish I could get my pool vacuum behind the steps, so it gets a little dirty back there. (That's really my only complaint!!) As far as removal for winter, I was in the pool pushing up on them, while my husband and 13 year old were pulling them up onto the deck. I was afraid it would be terribly heavy with all that sand, water, and the gravel we put in the bases. It wasn't bad at all! All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase and recommend them to anyone! ... show more

  • Sturdy steps easy to put together
Size: Drop In Step Color: Warm Grey/Grey Treads
Easy to install, very sturdy and excellent price compared to local pool stores. We put sand inside the hand rail holes (40lbs 10lb per hole) and it held down perfectly in pool.

  • Great set of pool stairs and hack to weigh front down
Size: Drop In Step Color: White/Blue Treads
We got these steps last year to replace a vertical ladder that broke. I get painful foot cramps that many times brought on by the pressure the rungs of a traditional ladder on the soles of my feet. These steps solved that problem so i would recommend them for anyone who has similar foot or other issues like back problems using a deck ladder. Before i put the stairs in for a second year i wanted to fix the issue some other customers reported where do to buoyancy the front part of the stairs tend to lift up a couple of inches. I the solution that i used was inexpensive, unobtrusive, easy to install and has solved the problem. I used a precut two foot 4inch in diameter PVC pipe, two end caps, 36 inch zip ties and bag of cement. I used pvc glue to affix one end cap and filled cement and glued other end cap and let it set over night. Then turn over the stairs over so the bottom step was faceup on the deck. Drill 4 holes into the riser of the bottom stairs as shown. Measure or simply use the PVC pipe as a guide drill 4 companion holes above the pipe insert the tails of the zip on the bottom hole and back up and out throught the top hole so you can get better leverage to pull the zip tie tight towards you. The 4 zips seem to have done their job and hold the weight securely in place. The zips being on the front bottom riser rather than the blue stair are barely noticeable and the weight is doing its job as the stairs now rest flatly on the pool liner. Otherwise these the family love the stairs, they are sturdy enough to sit on and makes getting in and out of the pool a breeze. ... show more

  • Confer Plastics 1-Step above-ground pool steps --- good stuff
Size: Drop In Step Color: Warm Grey/Grey Treads
We ordered this from In The Swim here on Amazon. The product arrived well in advance of the top-end delivery date and in decent shape. One of the two "base" footings for the unit arrived with two of its four plastic flanges (for screwing the bottom base into the side of the step-assembly) partially dented or crushed, but (as we decided NOT to put the two "base footings" on the bottom of the assembly after all but just put the steps into the pool on top of a vinyl mat to protect the liner) that was not a deal breaker. The step-platforms and their securing plastic tabs were molded together in the factory and you have to use a utility knife to cut the tabs away from the left and right edges of each step, and I found myself wishing that they had taken the time in the manufacturing process to break off those tabs at the factory rather than making me slice away with a knife. Ditto for the four posts used to support the handrails - all four posts were molded together at the factory and you're obliged to take a utility knife and slice through the flimsy plastic residue between the posts in order to separate them for assembly. Once all the parts were laid out, the steps assembled fairly quickly - but it took us 4 or 5 times as long to put the 40 lbs of sand into the steps as it did to assemble them; but, in all fairness, we were using semi-damp (more like simply 'humid') play-sand out of a couple of bags in the garage, rather than truly dry sand. Regardless, they could have done a better job with the instructions on how to fill it (tilt in all directions, shake the sand down, divert some of it to secondary plastic tubes inside the assembly, don't fill beyond such-and-so a point [so that posts insert OK], etc.). But, once it was all done, and we had lowed it into the pool, and let it absorb water thru the holes in the steps, it settled to the bottom and fit well along the floor of the pool, and it bolted down onto the deck well, also. These steps are solid, much better than the last steps that we'd had, and much, much, MUCH better than your garden-variety ladder - for folks with age-related climbing issues, anyway. :-) All in all, I walked away from this purchase, well-pleased, and thinking that we'd made a good buy. Several days into the experience now, and with folks of various ages and heights and weights and climbing abilities having put the thing to the test - it's holding up well - it's a very good product - better than many - and well worth the price we paid. ... show more
