Description

► Length - The overall length of this Concert Ukulele is 24 inches. ► We chose one of the most popular woods to build the body of your Ukulele - Mahogany! ► The Bridge of the ukulele is made out of Walnut! ► The Fingerboard is made of Walnut as well & the neck of the ukulele is made of Nato ► Walnut is a popular wood used in many musical instruments, including guitars. ► Aquila Strings. We installed Premium Italian Aquila Strings to make sure this ukulele produces the best sound it can. Aquila Strings are very popular and any experienced player would recommend it. ► Bone Nut - The Nut in this ukulele is made out of Ox bone. In most ukuleles out there, the nut is made out of plastic. The nut directly influences the tone and sound of the ukulele as it is in direct contact with the strings! Compensated Bone Saddle - The saddle in this ukulele is Compensated(!) and is made out of Ox bone. In most ukuleles out there, the saddle is made out of plastic. The Saddle directly influence the tone and sound of the ukulele as it is in direct contact with the strings! Are you finding your new ukulele always needs tuning every time you want to play it? This is really common, particularly with new strings. Nylon strings take a certain amount of stretching before they settle down and hold their tune. How to solve:Tune it to the desired note, then pull up on the string over the sound hole to give it a bit of a stretch. That'll take it down about 2 whole notes, tune it back up and repeat until it stays in tune. A lot of folks who maybe aren't used to stringed instruments, especially nylon strings, get frustrated, but don't worry, these are decent strings, they just need a good stretch! What does a musician and an airplane technician have to do with Hola! Music? Well, It seems that writing “High Quality" in products' description lost its meaning now days, but with us you will find items that had many hours of thought and testing put into them. The founders of Hola! Music come from very different worlds, a musician and a technician Making sure the words ”High Quality“ actually have meaning. This is our promise to you. • Second Time Purchase and comparison with the soprano size +a word on the fee lessons
I first purchased the HM121MG Deluxe mahogany (in the natural wood color) Soprano Ukulele and was 100% satisfied. Now I have just purchased the Concert sized in purple and it is GORGEOUS! I am new to Ukulele and, while it was tempting to want to try a different brand to get a feel what what else is available, I ultimately decided to go with Hola! again for a few key reasons and was not disappointed! There doesn't seem to be too much difference between their Soprano I purchase and Concert Ukulele but there are a few nice features such as the closed tuning backs that make it even just a bit nicer. The concert sized is just a little bigger and was easy to transition to after playing the soprano. I'm taking lessons and my instructor recommended I get a concert size for myself (the soprano size is for my son). I strongly recommend watching the videos they have for each of their products which will tell you all about the features of each of their lines. Because they were so similar right down to the very nice, snug, padded gig bags, I decided I wanted a different color. I really LOVE this purple- I was a little worried when I first ordered it but I promise the pictures do not do it justice! it is a nice deep, almost plumb color. You can see some of the wood grain through it which gives is some nice detail and depth. It kind of changes color in the light and will look a little lighter or darker depending on the light source. I think the blue would be equally beautiful. The colors don't seem to be like so many other Ukes on Amazon with very bright, shiny colors (not that there is anything wrong with that!) But I wanted something that looked a little more mature and professional but still fun as I hope to be able to play in public one day. My instructor was so impressed, that he is now seriously considering buying one for himself! LOL Another biggie for me in my decision making was knowing that I am supporting an AMERICAN company that hand makes their instruments in the US! The free lessons are also very nice- I had never heard of Take Lessons before but it is an amazing platform. What you get for free is actually access to a variety of GROUP lessons. Some examples of what some of the beginner group lessons would be like are: Basic Strumming Patterns, and Playing songs for beginners...If you want individual instruction, that is a separate charge, but you can choose from dozens of different instructors and pay for 15-60min lessons depending on your budget. Each instructor has their own profile and you can choose someone who you think will be a good fit. So far, I'm very happy. If you have a hard time figuring out how to activate your free 2 months, just respond to the email you get from Hola! After your instrument arrives and they will send you a link to get started. Well, congratulations if you've made it this far into my rambling review LOL...I hope you found my review to be helpful. ... show more

  • Stupid strap. Dumb hola dancer.
Have had it for a little over 2 months now. My first ukelele however not my first stringed instrument. Let's talk about the add ins first then the ukelele. You get 3 picks all of various sizes. They seem sturdy however I find that strumming with picks can be very irritating sometimes because of the slick texture. Next the strap. The strap is sturdy and reliable (even though the ukelele weighs as much as a sandwich) I find that I really enjoy using it. I would enjoy it more if the color wasn't an eye sore. It is a weird worn rainbow look and rainbow in general is a awful sight in my opinion. The case is cool. Not the biggest fan. I mean it works but the pocket is too tight to pull anything besides the picks in and the staple on the back is kinda small and I'm a normal sized guy. Finally the ukelele, its amazing for the price. It is solid, light weight, and makes the right sound. There is only one nick pick I have and that would be the top frett is kinda sharp/ pointy and can be uncomfortable during prolonged use. I really enjoyed this and would recommend. PRO TIP- Dont be a dummy like me and buy the hola dancer. It looks awful....Without experience- the tribal one doesn't look too good either. The tip is - buy a solid color on with no stupid doodles on it. If you want doodles do it yourself even if you can't draw or etche worth a crap, it will probably look better than the stupid hola dancer. ... show more

  • Beautiful insturment, lovely sound
I've been playing soprano ukulele for a few years and wanted to try a larger instrument made of wood (my Kala Makala Shark has a molded plastic body with a wood front). This Hola! Music Mahoagony Concert sounds wonderful and warm and is just beautiful. The tone is everything that I hoped for. I adore the laser engraved tribal tattoo (my compliments to the artist!) The grain of the wood is complemented by a light, satin sheen of lacquer, and the Hola! Music logo rendered in mother-of-pearl on the headstock. Frets are even and snag-free. The accessories are pleasing as well. The padded bag is really nice with plenty of room for my tuner (I purchased a cute bag years ago from Hola! Music for my soprano uke, and another for a guitar a couple of years ago. Love their bags). The strap is so nice that I kind of want to use it for aesthetic alone :) Nice picks, too. I'm really enjoying playing this concert uke! Multi-sensory happiness. :) ... show more

  • No need to look any further. This ukulele is fantastic and exceeded my expectations.
Color: Blue
This is fantastic and not just for beginners. We purchased a different ukulele for my daughter to learn in. I play guitar and bass and been playing for almost 30 years. The old ukulele I am calling now a decoration. This new one feels and plays great! It is longer than the common soprano ukulele and much lower action so it is very easy to play. Generally, inexpensive guitars including acoustics, electrics, ukuleles, there are usually sharp edges on the frets that will scratch fingers as you slide up and down the neck and change chords. These frets are very tight and smooth and you do not have that problem. The finish is fantastic and the overall tone is very good as well. It even comes with a quality case that is lightly padded but much better then other beginner ukuleles and guitars which are pointless and very thin. Thins also comes with a nice strap that can be securely fastened to the ukulele so no need to worry about it popping off. This purchase was much much better than I expected and am so excited for my daughter and she was smiling ear to ear with how much more fun playing is. Not to mention her favorite color. ;). Cheers! Cant go wrong. ... show more

  • Great Starter Ukulele Package.
I am generally impressed with this ukulele, especially for the price and the stuff that comes with it. I purchased the Hola! concert ukulele in zebra wood. There are a couple tiny blemishes in the finish, and actually they are hard to see. I just happened to notice them by feeling them. Maybe I can even buff them out. At any rate, they certainly do not affect playability. The reason I can not give a full 5 star review on craftmanship has to do with the frets. They are a bit rough as you run your fingers down the sides of the fretboard. I am going to try to file them down and see if that helps. The padded gig bag (case) is actually quite nice, and I am glad to have it. The strap that came with it seems good enough quality. I am not sure that I will ever use it, but better to have and not need than to need and not have, I suppose. A few guitar picks were included in the package. I am not sure why those are included as one strums a ukulele with their fingers, but as a guitar player as well, I never have enough picks. It comes with access to a website with 2 months of free lessons, making this truly a great package for beginners. All in all, I consider this a real nice value for the money. ... show more

  • Wonderful ukulele
Color: Blue
I love the sound of this uke! If you read the low reviews about having to tune it all the time know that they are correct but that is absolutely not a reason to return it or avoid it. As with ANY stringed instrument it will not arrive in tune and when you first tune new strings it will fall out of tune very quickly as the strings stretch. Play with it then retune, keep playing, keep retuning. Once you get the strings stretched properly it will stay tuned for you longer(you should tune ANY string instrument every time you play). This has a nice warm sound. It is comfortable to play. I got the teal one and it is beautiful! I am so very pleased with this purchase. I highly recommend it. It is 24 inches which is a bit longer than your standard concert but I like that. The case is a nice padded case. The strap fits nicely and is comfortable. It comes with plastic picks and they should be felt but some people use plastic so whatever. ... show more

  • great uke!
Color: Blue
I'm super happy with this purchase. As a beginner ukulele player, I don't have another instrument/brand to compare it to, but I think this one is great! I love that its real wood and doesn't feel like a toy, or cheap, at all. I love the fun color, too... the pictures were spot on, I'd say, for the teal one at least. And I liked this one because of the stained wood look instead of the shiny, plastic-looking colored ukes of other brands. After reading several different brand reviews, I was worried that all beginner ukes would require the strings to be replaced and that they wouldn't stay in tune, but I did not have this experience at all. Of course the first day I had to tighten the strings a lot, several times, but when I put it away I over tightened the strings (a violin teacher's recommendation) and when I pulled it out two days later three of the four were pretty close to in tune and the other one was super sharp, surprisingly! So, I'd recommend doing that. After playing the second day, one string went out of tune during the 45 minutes I was playing it. I haven't tried the lessons it comes with yet, but it did come with the 2 months of free lessons. I just used some free ones on youTube for initial playing around. I can't think of any complaints I have about this fun instrument. I would totally recommend it to anyone! ... show more

  • Warm rich tone, beautiful wood, and solid construction
Bear in mind while reading this review that my only other experience with ukuleles has been my previous Mahalo soprano uke. When I first saw this uke I fell in love with that zebra wood pattern and the overall fit and finish of this piece. When I got in the mail a few days later it did not disappoint. Aside from the beauty of it's wood and the quality of it's construction, the sound of this thing is phenomenal. Has a really warm tone to it, and to my ears, far more accurate notes than I could ever get with my Mahalo. Because of the quality construction, the strings stay in tune for a long time. On that note, it turns out that when the strings get warm (like if you took it to the beach) they loose some tension and you have to re-tune. Only drawback for me was that when I got it, the washer on the C string tuning peg was loose and jangled when I'd play it. SImple fix is a tiny piece of gaffers tape on the washer and it's all good. Honestly, for the amateur looking for a really solid step up in the ukulele game, this is the way to go. I'm sure even seasoned pros would love this. I'll ask one next time I meet one! ... show more
